This book was released on 2023-12-19 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real-Time Ground-Based Flight Data and Cockpit Voice Recorder Unique text determining the feasibility for implementation and manufacture of ground-based black box systems Real-Time Ground-Based Flight Data and Cockpit Voice Recorder helps familiarize the reader with the nature of issues surrounding existing black box technology integrated on aircrafts and to understand the benefits and importance of proposed real-time ground-based alternative solutions. These are based on predicting aircraft problems while in flight, including understanding the feasibility of using the already existing space and ground-based wireless technologies infrastructures for this purpose. The authors discuss expense reductions in the crash investigation when implementing the new concepts in this book as compared to existing procedures when aircraft accidents occur. The text also opens new research ideas for future investigations. Simulation codes are included to allow for further independent exploration into the covered concepts and ideas. Topics covered in the book include: Satellite Data Transfer Implementation, including basics of the technology, channel data rate, PSTN-based satellite implementation, and expected availability of spectrum Very High Frequency Digital Link (VDL), including modes, sublayers, data transfer, packet and frame structure, and number of channels needed to support a certain number of airplanes Modern Airplane Communication Technologies (including direct air-to-ground communication using 5G) and terahertz band communications; and their integration into aviation communications Black box final architecture and connectivity, including ground and UAV connectivity, and general black box wireless communications challenges For aviation industrial engineers and technical staff, managers, and aerospace and academic researchers, Real-Time Ground-Based Flight Data and Cockpit Voice Recorder is a valuable guide to existing and future technology to successfully predict aircraft problems during flight.

This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the results of this paper are similar to those of previous research, in this paper technical difficulties present there are eliminated, producing better results, enabling one to more readily see the benefits of Prioritized CSMA (PCSMA). A new analysis section also helps to generalize this research so that it is not limited to exploration of the new concept of PCSMA. Commercially available network simulation software, OPNET version 7.0, simulations are presented involving an important application of the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN), Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) over the Very High Frequency Data Link Mode 2 (VDL-2). Communication is modeled for essentially all incoming and outgoing nonstop air traffic for just three United States cities: Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Detroit. The simulation involves 111 Air Traffic Control (ATC) ground stations, 32 airports distributed throughout the U.S., which are either sources or destinations for the air traffic landing or departing from the three cities, and also 1,235 equally equipped aircraft taking off, flying realistic free-flight trajectories, and landing in a 24-hr period. Collision-less PCSMA is successfully tested and compared with the traditional CSMA typically associated with VDL- 2. The performance measures include latency, throughput, and packet loss. As expected, PCSMA is much quicker and more efficient than traditional CSMA. These simulation results show the potency of PCSMA for implementing low latency, high throughput and efficient connectivity. Moreover, since PCSMA outperforms traditional CSMA, by simulating with it, we can determine the limits of performance beyond which traditional CSMA may not pass. We are testing a new and better data link that could replace CSMA with relative ease. Work is underway to drastically expand the number of flights to make the simulation more representative of the National Aerospace System. Robinson, Daryl C. Glenn Research Center NASA/TM-2

Book Synopsis Aeronautical Air-Ground Data Link Communications by : Mohamed Slim Ben Mahmoud
Download or read book Aeronautical Air-Ground Data Link Communications written by Mohamed Slim Ben Mahmoud and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with air-ground aeronautical communications. The main goal is to give the reader a survey of the currently deployed, emerging and future communications systems dedicated to digital data communications between the aircraft and the ground, namely the data link. Those communication systems show specific properties relatively to those commonly used for terrestrial communications. In this book, the system architectures are more specifically considered from the access to the application layers as radio and physical functionalities have already been addressed in detail in others books. The first part is an introduction to aeronautical communications, their specific concepts, properties, requirements and terminology. The second part presents the currently used systems for air ground communications in continental and oceanic area. The third part enlightens the reader on the emerging and future communication systems and some leading research projects focused on this scope. Finally, before the conclusion, the fourth part gives several main challenges and research directions currently under investigation.
