Download or read book Large-Eddy Simulation of the Tip-Flow of a Rotor in Hover written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The blade-tip vortex is one of the most important aerodynamic feature of a helicopter rotor wake, The strength, size, location and orientation of the tip vortices affect the blade loads and rotor performance. The overall goal of the current project was to develop a large-eddy simulation (LES) capability to simulate the rotor-tip vortex and use these simulations to perform a detailed analysis of the dynamics of this flow, The specific objectives of this research project are (1) Develop a LES based computational approach for simulating the tip flow of a rotor in hover. (2) Validate the computational approach against PIV measurements of a hovering rotor (3) Use the solver to gain insight into the formation, structure and downstream evolution of the tip-vortex and the dynamics of the turbulence associated with the tip vortex.

Book Synopsis Wind Turbine Aerodynamics and Vorticity-Based Methods by : Emmanuel Branlard
Download or read book Wind Turbine Aerodynamics and Vorticity-Based Methods written by Emmanuel Branlard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-05 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces the fundamentals of fluid-mechanics, momentum theories, vortex theories and vortex methods necessary for the study of rotors aerodynamics and wind-turbines aerodynamics in particular. Rotor theories are presented in a great level of details at the beginning of the book. These theories include: the blade element theory, the Kutta-Joukowski theory, the momentum theory and the blade element momentum method. A part of the book is dedicated to the description and implementation of vortex methods. The remaining of the book focuses on the study of wind turbine aerodynamics using vortex-theory analyses or vortex-methods. Examples of vortex-theory applications are: optimal rotor design, tip-loss corrections, yaw-models and dynamic inflow models. Historical derivations and recent extensions of the models are presented. The cylindrical vortex model is another example of a simple analytical vortex model presented in this book. This model leads to the development of different BEM models and it is also used to provide the analytical velocity field upstream of a turbine or a wind farm under aligned or yawed conditions. Different applications of numerical vortex methods are presented. Numerical methods are used for instance to investigate the influence of a wind turbine on the incoming turbulence. Sheared inflows and aero-elastic simulations are investigated using vortex methods for the first time. Many analytical flows are derived in details: vortex rings, vortex cylinders, Hill's vortex, vortex blobs etc. They are used throughout the book to devise simple rotor models or to validate the implementation of numerical methods. Several Matlab programs are provided to ease some of the most complex implementations.

This book was released on 2019-06-08 with total page 3068 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of peer-reviewed papers from the 2018 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology (APISAT 2018). The symposium is a common endeavour between the four national aerospace societies in China, Australia, Korea and Japan, namely, the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CSAA), Royal Aeronautical Society Australian Division (RAeS Australian Division), the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences (KSAS) and the Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences (JSASS). APISAT is an annual event initiated in 2009 to provide an opportunity for researchers and engineers from Asia-Pacific countries to discuss current and future advanced topics in aeronautical and space engineering.

Book Synopsis Aerial Robots by : Omar D Lopez Mejia
Download or read book Aerial Robots written by Omar D Lopez Mejia and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few years ago, the topic of aerial robots was exclusively related to the robotics community, so a great number of books about the dynamics and control of aerial robots and UAVs have been written. As the control technology for UAVs advances, the great interaction that exists between other systems and elements that are as important as control such as aerodynamics, energy efficiency, acoustics, structural integrity, and applications, among others has become evident. Aerial Robots - Aerodynamics, Control, and Applications is an attempt to bring some of these topics related to UAVs together in just one book and to look at a selection of the most relevant problems of UAVs in a broader engineering perspective.
