Book Synopsis Not Made Visible by : Matias Faldbakken
Download or read book Not Made Visible written by Matias Faldbakken and published by JRP Ringier. This book was released on 2007 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tiré du site Internet de JRP/Ringier : "Matias Faldbakken (*1973) is an artist and writer living in Oslo. Son of the celebrated Norwegian author Knut Faldbakken, he has published two novels, "The Cocka Hola Company" and "Macht und Rebel" under the alias Abo Rasul. Drenched with acid humor and continuously hitting below the waist, his books immediately caused a considerable stir in Norway. If, in these publications, he underlines the differences and similarities between the so-called underground and the mainstream, and between the "independent" and the "commercial" in everyday life, these subjects are also central to his art practice. Fascinated with systems of knowledge, power, order, and exchange, he shows an interest in understanding how art and artists can be active participants in these systems. Faldbakken studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen as well as at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. He represented Norway in the Nordic Pavillion at the Venice Biennial in 2005, as well as showing his work in the Wrong Gallery at the Whitney Biennial, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the National Museum Oslo, the Sydney Biennial and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin, among others."

Book Synopsis Nature and the Arts in Early Modern Naples by : Frank Fehrenbach
Download or read book Nature and the Arts in Early Modern Naples written by Frank Fehrenbach and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-09-21 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literary, artistic, and scientific culture of early modern Naples is closely linked to the natural topography of the city, stretching from Iacopo Sannazaro’s poetic evocation of the Campania landscape to Giambattista Vico’s approach in which he anchors human civilization to the existential confrontation with natural forces. With the open sea, the rocky coastline, and the menacing presence of Vesuvius, the image of Naples, more than any other city in early modern times, is associated in the collective imagination with the forces of nature. Even the populace was interpreted as a force of nature. In this volume, art, literature, and science historians investigate the convergence of culture and nature in a unique geographic context.
Book Synopsis Provenance and Early Cinema by : Joanne Bernardi
Download or read book Provenance and Early Cinema written by Joanne Bernardi and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remnants of early films often have a story to tell. As material artifacts, these film fragments are central to cinema history, perhaps more than ever in our digital age of easy copying and sharing. If a digital copy is previewed before preservation or is shared with a researcher outside the purview of a film archive, knowledge about how the artifact was collected, circulated, and repurposed threatens to become obscured. When the question of origin is overlooked, the story can be lost. Concerned contributors in Provenance and Early Cinema challenge scholars digging through film archives to ask, "How did these moving images get here for me to see them?" This volume, which features the conference proceedings from Domitor, the International Society for the Study of Early Cinema, 2018, questions preservation, attribution, and patterns of reuse in order to explore singular artifacts with long and circuitous lives.
Book Synopsis The Impact of Religion by : Michael Welker
Download or read book The Impact of Religion written by Michael Welker and published by Wipf and Stock. This book was released on 2022-07-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pluralism has become the defining characteristic of modern societies. Individuals with differing values clamor for equality. Organizations and groups assert particular interests. Social movements flourish and fade. Some see in this clash of principles and aims the potential for a more just human community, while others fear the erosion of enduring culture. Yet beneath this welter stand powerful and pervasive institutions, whose distinctive norms profoundly shape our moral commitments and character--notably the family, the market, the media, and systems of law, religion, politics, research, education, health care, and defense. Drawing on scholarship from five continents, many disciplines, and diverse religious perspectives, this series examines the impact of these various institutions on moral education, character, and values. As globalization carries the shifting dynamic between individuals and institutions into every part of the globe, the contributors hope that this conversation will help address the increasing challenges confronting our pluralist societies and our world. The overwhelming majority of the contributions in this volume deal with the Christian religion, as pluralistic societies today thrive substantially in Christian environments. Contributions by Peter Carnley, Gregor Etzelmuller, Johannes Eurich, Jennifer Herdt, Admiel Kosman, Piet Naude, Waihan Ng, Friederike Nussel, Bernd Oberdorfer, Martin Percy, Stephen Pickard, Raja Sakrani, William Schweiker, Philipp Stoellger, Milton Wan, Renee Ip, Michael Welker and John Witte, Jr.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semantic Network Analysis in Social Sciences introduces the fundamentals of semantic network analysis and its applications in the social sciences. Readers learn how to easily transform any given text into a visual network of words co-occurring together, a process that allows mapping the main themes appearing in the text and revealing its main narratives and biases. Semantic network analysis is particularly useful today with the increasing volumes of text-based information available. It is one of the developing, cutting-edge methods to organize, identify patterns and structures, and understand the meanings of our information society. The first chapters in this book offer step-by-step guidelines for conducting semantic network analysis, including choosing and preparing the text, selecting desired words, constructing the networks, and interpreting their meanings. Free software tools and code are also presented. The rest of the book displays state-of-the-art studies from around the world that apply this method to explore news, political speeches, social media content, and even to organize interview transcripts and literature reviews. Aimed at scholars with no previous knowledge in the field, this book can be used as a main or a supplementary textbook for general courses on research methods or network analysis courses, as well as a starting point to conduct your own content analysis of large texts.
Book Synopsis Critical Incidents in Journalism by : Edson C. Tandoc Jr.
Download or read book Critical Incidents in Journalism written by Edson C. Tandoc Jr. and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-11 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection examines critical incidents journalists have faced across different media contexts, exploring how journalists and other key actors negotiate various aspects of their work. Ranging from the Rwandan genocide to the News of the World hacking scandal in the UK, this book defines a critical incident as an event that has led journalists to reconsider their routines, roles, and rules. Combining theoretical and practical analysis, the contributors offer a discussion of the key events that journalists cover, such as political turmoil or natural disasters, as well as events that directly involve and affect journalists. Featuring case studies from countries including Australia, Germany, Brazil, Kenya, and the Philippines, the book explores the discourses that critical events have generated, how journalists and other stakeholders have responded to them, and how they have reshaped (or are reshaping) journalistic norms and practices. The book also proposes a roadmap for studying such pivotal moments in journalism. This one-of-a-kind collection is a valuable resource for students and scholars across journalism studies disciplines, from journalism history, to sociology of news, to digital journalism and political communication.

Book Synopsis Italian Industrial Literature and Film by : Carlo Baghetti
Download or read book Italian Industrial Literature and Film written by Carlo Baghetti and published by Peter Lang Publishing. This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book explores the representation of industrial labor in Italian literature and film from the 1950s through the 1970s. In a predominantly Catholic country with strong communist and socialist traditions, industrial labor meant more than factory work: it meant building a national community. The first article of the Italian Constitution clearly states that the Republic is founded on labor, and the period covered in this book sawbroad economic, social and cultural transformations from agriculture to industry and eventually information technologies. Italian writers and filmmakers used literature and cinema to interpret-and influence-these changes. The essays collected in this book consider their work as a whole. They also contextualize Italian industrial literature and film with respect to labor representations both before and after the selected chronology"--
