Book excerpt: Edward Scott is a man who live for the truth, and a man who grew up on a small farm in West Oakland, California. Unlike other farms where they raise pigs, chickens and cattle, on this farm they raise people for jails, institutions, and death. So he strives and survives to write these truths into metaphor. During his elementary school years, Scott attended Cole Elementary School in Oakland where he won his first poetry contest called My Dream for My Country. That poetry was base on Scotts account of the Vietnam War, and he also got recognition from the state of Washington governor during that time. Scott was sent to Longfellow Elementary School during his school years for gifted students. While at Longfellow he received the attention from his teacher Mrs. Jones who inspired and taught him how to write books. Scotts knowledge of writing books continues throughout his junior and senior school years at McClymonds High School. Later in life, Scott self published two of his poetry books called No Reasonable Explanations Required and The Afterbirth. Author House Publication published Scotts third poetry book called The Metamonphi of the Phenomeni, and all three books are now available.

I have been talking about all of these to you all these years, but it’s only now that you can hear, rather read these. Feel the pent-up emotions taking wings. There are two ways one takes a break from the hectic, clichéd rat race. One, “stand and stare”, the other, sit and read. Being of simple uncluttered language, the poems in this book will be a walk in the park, I mean, the woods. Quite probably, there will be reflections of your own vignettes of emotions and feelings, in here. After all, we are the same species. So let us go and take the walk, side by side and take a look into my woods, through this book. You will not need a walking stick as the paths are not rough. The spotlight is on you!

Book excerpt: From my earliest memories, I have always felt God's presence in my life. Happy days or troubled ones, wherever I am on my journey, He is with me, and speaking to Him is as natural as breathing. We all come from God, and we return to Him. It is not the temple in which we worship or the colour of our skin, but the way we choose to live our lives. It's the colour of our hearts that matters, and there are only two colours - good choices and bad choices. My inspiration comes from life -the hopes, dreams, tragedies and triumphs of fellow humans and from my own spiritual journey. It comes from my feelings of being connected to the One who gave me life and to those who now walk silently among us. The ocean, a timeless opera, is always a source of inspiration for me and music that leaves me begging for more. Writing brings me closer to God, and if my words bring a little peace, joy or healing to others, then I am truly honoured.

But when Michael's daughter and best friend are brutally murdered, he follows a trail of evidence that leads dangerously close to home. Closer than he could ever imagine. A future world of aerocars, net glasses, and neural cyberware provides the backdrop for this timeless tale of good and evil, revenge and love, infamy and destiny. Fans of Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell will love this page-turner filled with thought-provoking images of dark shapes which, despite their pain and power, could never blot out the light that surrounds them.

Book excerpt: Whispering Silhouette is life evolving on many levels. It is the life experiences that have taken many down the hidden paths of personal discovery. These paths are a mixture of Williams' interpretation on life, love, and relationships. You will find his interpretations simple, yet sometimes complex-real and at times surreal-emotionally wrenching, as well as, pleasing to the imagination. After reading just a few pieces it becomes quite clear that poetry has become a form of expression and comfort in dealing with his innermost thoughts. Insightfulness, pure elegance, and passion epitomize the poetry of Preston Williams II. With this distinct voice and accessible language, he opens the sensibility to poetry for countless people for whom it might otherwise have remained numb to its influence. In his amazing new collection, the first of many others to come, Williams explores youth, family, life, love, and the passage of time. Preston Williams' poetry is a window through which we see our lives as if for the first time. He uses simple, understandable language, to capture ordinary life-its pleasures, discontents, its moments of sadness and joys. It is considerably difficult not to be charmed by Williams' Whispering Silhouette.

Book excerpt: During the nineteeth century, something vital went missing: the human being. In Unsuspecting Souls, Barry Sanders examines modern society's indifference to the individual. From the Industrial Revolution, where the disappearance of care for human beings begins slowly, to our own age, where societal events require less person–to–person interaction, Sanders laments that what makes us most human is slowly dying. Our days are filled with little but a continuous bombardment of "information," demands on our attention, that brings us out of our world and into one of inhumanity and abstraction. We are losing entirely any palpable attachment to our physical reality. And we've also lost the original sense of a collective consciousness. This loss has been fomenting for two centuries now, dating back to the rise of European powers and worldwide colonization. This has led to the notion that we need to define what is torture, an idea that not long ago would have seemed absurd, and need to pick our poisons among several forms of radical fundamentalisms, each one not only a threat to the other but a threat to humanity itself. From Edgar Allen Poe to Abu Ghraib, this is a fascinating and worrisome story, impeccably researched and compellingly written.

Book excerpt: In My Sideways Heart, with consummate poetic skill, Brown explores the nuances of human relationships, and he does so with a courage and emotional honesty rare in contemporary American poetry. Are the poems in this collection love poems ? Absolutely, but love poems skillfully absent the banal excesses of sentimentality. Brown writes with the confidence and directness of an experienced poet, and his seemingly simple diction belies the hard-earned wisdom stirring deep beneath the surface of his art. --Larry D. Thomas, 2008 Texas Poet Laureate"
