It covers the elastic analysis of two-dimensional, plate bending, coupled stretching-bending, and three-dimensional deformations, and is extended to the piezoelectric, piezomagnetic, magnetic-electro-elastic, viscoelastic materials, and the ones under thermal environment. The analytical solutions include the solutions for infinite space, half-space, bi-materials, wedges, interface corners, holes, cracks, inclusions, and contact problems. The boundary element solutions include BEMs for two-dimensional anisotropic elastic, piezoelectric, magnetic-electro-elastic, viscoelastic analyses, and their associated dynamic analyses, as well as coupled stretching-bending analysis, contact analysis, and three-dimensional analysis. This book also provides source codes and examples for all the presenting analytical solutions and boundary element methods. The program is named as AEPH (Anisotropic Elastic Plates – Hwu), which contains 204 MATLAB functions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sijo, a traditional Korean verse form, has a fixed number of stressed syllables and a humorous or ironic twist at the end. Like haiku, sijo are brief and accessible, and the witty last line winds up each poem with a surprise. The verses in this book illuminate funny, unexpected, amazing aspects of the everyday--of breakfast, thunder and lightning, houseplants, tennis, freshly laundered socks. Carefully crafted and deceptively simple, Linda Sue Park's sijo are a pleasure to read and an irresistible invitation to experiment with an unfamiliar poetic form. Istvan Banyai's irrepressibly giddy and sophisticated illustrations add a one-of-a-kind luster to a book that is truly a gem.

Book excerpt: A decade in the making, Jaihiun Kim's 'Modern Korean Verse in Sijo Form' offers what will be the twentieth century's definitive collection of sijo. Kim begins with the work of Nam-son Ch'oe in the early 20th century and brings the collection up to date with recent poems from Chi-yob Yi and P'il-gon Kim. Similar to the Japanese haiku in its brevity and imagery, Korean sijo has shown itself to be remarkably responsive to contemporary concerns. Employing the modern idiom but retaining a hint of Eastern tonality, Kim offers Westerners a rich and rare reading experience. Kim includes an essay on the history and practice of sijo poetry.

Book excerpt: For Nirvana features exceptional examples of the poet Cho Oh-Hyun's award-winning work. Cho Oh-Hyun was born in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, Korea, and has lived in retreat in the mountains since becoming a novice monk at the age of seven. Writing under the Buddhist name Musan, he has composed hundreds of poems in seclusion, many in the sijo style, a relatively fixed syllabic poetic form similar to Japanese haiku and tanka. For Nirvana contains 108 Zen sijo poems (108 representing the number of klesas, or "defilements," that one must overcome to attain enlightenment). These transfixing works play with traditional religious and metaphysical themes and include a number of "story" sijo, a longer, more personal style that is one of Cho Oh-Hyun's major innovations. Kwon Youngmin, a leading scholar of sijo, provides a contextualizing introduction, and in his afterword, Heinz Insu Fenkl reflects on the unique challenges of translating the collection.

This book was released on 2023-04-04 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initiates a wider development of inquiries into women's literary cultures to move the reader beyond single geographical, linguistic, cultural and period boundaries. Since the closing decades of the twentieth century, medieval women's writing has been the subject of energetic conversation and debate. This interest, however, has focused predominantly on western European writers working within the Christian tradition: the Saxon visionaries, Mechthild of Hackeborn, Mechthild of Magdeburg, Gertrude the Great, for example, and, in England, Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe are cases in point. While this present book acknowledges the huge importance of such writers to women's literary history, it also argues that they should no longer be read solely within a local context. Instead, by putting them into conversation with other literary women and their cultures from wider geographical regions and global cultures - women from eastern Europe and their books, dramas and music; the Welsh gwraig llwyn a pherth (woman of bush and brake); the Indian mystic, Mirabai; Japanese women writers from the Heian period; women saints from across Christian Europe and those of eleventh-century Islam or late medieval Ethiopia; for instance - much more is to be gained in terms of our understanding of the drivers behind and expressions of medieval women's literary activities in far broader contexts. This volume considers the dialogue, synergies, contracts and resonances emerging from such new alignments, and to help a wider, multidirectional development of this enquiry into women's literary cultures.
