Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever wonder why Bugs Bunny kept getting lost... and why it was always due to that missed left turn at Albuquerque? Well in this book you just might discover that perhaps ol' Bugs didn't have such a poor memory or bad sense of direction after all. Perhaps he knew something the rest of us didn't. Come along for yet another marvelous, meandering road trip, courtesy of author Debora L. Carr as she continues to explore the mind-boggling sights in the vast and varied state of New Mexico. There are more natural wonders, strange towns and wild artwork to goggle at as well as unexplained mysteries, bizarre news items and unusual characters that will keep you scratching your head in amazement. You never know what you'll discover around the next bend in the rutted, winding road or what you'll miss out on if you don't miss that left turn. So keep your eyes peeled for those hidden gems of weird wonders that lurk at the side of the road and watch out for those spandex-clad two-wheeled kamakazis. Just turn off the GPS and follow that "wascally wabbit" as the adventure continues in the Wild, Wacky Land of Enchantment Debora Carr was born and raised in the central New Jersey area, graduating from Rutgers University with a BA in Art Education in 1980 and became a successful professional graphic artist and packaging designer. She chose to accompany her parents when they decided to relocate to and retire in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2003, where she continued her chosen profession of graphic artist, working as a one-person art department for a small print shop. She continued to keep in touch with friends and family members 'back east' by means of periodic humorous newsletters which she called her 'Albu-Quirky Journals' in which she detailed her perspective on life in New Mexico. She later collected some of these reports and rewrote them in a tongue-in-cheek essay form, emulating the short stories written by two of her favorite authors, James Thurber and Mark Twain. Her collections of these amusing vignettes include her first two books, "You Don't Need a Passport to Move to New Mexico" and "Home on the Strange." Debora still revels in collecting stories and photos of all things weird, odd and unusual and is delighted to find that her new home state of New Mexico is overflowing with them. With any luck, it will continue to provide fodder for more entries into her "Albu-Quirky Journals" for many years to come. Visit Debora's website at www.DeboraLCarr.com for more information on her books or to contact her with weird New Mexico sights and stories you think might be of interest or worthy of inclusion in future books

Book excerpt: It is easy to see God in a blue sky with puffy clouds. It is harder to see God in the mud puddles. If God is in the blue skies and puffy clouds of life, he is also in the mud puddles. This book is dedicated to helping people see God in the everydayness of life. When things are going well and even when you step into a mud puddle God is there with you and for you. I hope that as you read this book your eyes will start to see the little things that God is up to every daythe little miracles that happen. As people read this book, my prayer is that the broken find healing and the hopeless find hope.

A fun, sometimes biting history with Prince from a super-fan’s perspective, Prince and Little Weird Black Boy Gods is not so much a reference as a unique look at his career, the meaning of his music, and an official weighing in on numerous long-standing Prince debates, such as who was greater between Prince or Michael Jackson, how many times did Prince launch a successful comeback, and which song off of every album you should listen to. Woods’ first digital-only book, it promises to be engaging, witty and a fitting memorial for one of the greatest artists music has ever produced.

After the success of his earlier award-winning study of gospel music in Trinidad and the ethics of style, Rommen turns his attention to the complex and conflicted history of music in the Bahamas. Drawing upon extensive ethnographic and historical research, Rommen explores the interrelationships between rake-n-scrape, goombay, and Junkanoo performance, and shows how such ‘local’ musics are implicated in Bahamian understandings of national identity. In Funky Nassau, Timothy Rommen confirms his status as one of the best scholars of Caribbean music today.” —Michael Largey, author of Vodou Nation: Haitian Art Music and Cultural Nationalism "This sensitive, bittersweet account of music-making in the Bahamas shows how a small, fragmented country that has been buffeted by powerful currents emanating from both the United States and the Caribbean has managed to produce a vibrant popular music of its own. Rommen carefully maps the political and cultural economies that are integral to this story, but he keeps the musicians themselves, their aesthetics and strategies, at the center where they belong. The result is a vivid and finely nuanced portrait of a unique musical culture that deserves to be better known." —Kenneth Bilby, Center for Black Music Research, Columbia College Chicago

And don't get too close to the good ones. This is Paul Christian's choice. A seemingly mortal man, he is capable of altering into animal shapes, healing instantly, and manipulating people's thoughts and emotions. Unfortunately, well, most unfortunately for some, he needs human blood to survive. A low-key crime novelist, Paul leads a cautious and comfortable life-- until he falls in love. Lauren is just managing to keep her tavern open when she meets Paul-- a charismatic man who carefully weaves himself into her life. Suddenly her business picks up and she finds herself surrounded by new friends and a sense of family. And she begins to sense something else-- she's just not sure what it is-- or if it's good, or bad, or both. Strange things start to happen as Lauren gets sucked into Paul's life"--Page 4 of cover.

It was clear from the start that he would never be a typical pop star - and more than ten years later he has become one of our best-loved and most intriguing artists. From his dramatic experiences on Pop Idol; to coming out in the glare of the media spotlight; to his valiant struggles against depression; to the crazy reality of being famous, Will is open about both the highs and lows of his life. He also provides sound and practical advice on dealing with the DVLA helpline - something that has been woefully neglected by all other celebrity memoirs. If you have ever wondered what it's like to attend a fashion show (and find yourself accidentally waving at Anna Wintour); how it feels to sing in front of thousands while fighting a catastrophic bout of low self-esteem; or be subjected to the terror that is a This Morning 'makeover', then Funny Peculiar reveals all. It also reveals what not to say if you ever meet David Beckham. Moving, witty and scrupulously honest, Funny Peculiar is a refreshingly different and fascinating autobiography by a true original.

Book excerpt: The only work that exclusively features the conversion stories of theologians, this book provides a unique vantage point on the intellectual challenges faced by those being drawn to the Catholic Church. The men and women featured here come from a variety of backgrounds: Agnosticism, Secularism, New Age thought, punk rock, and various stripes of Christianity. Their theological vocation had specially prompted them to question their own intellectual presuppositions once they encountered Catholicism, which only gained in credibility the more they studied it. Although it was the theological truth of the Catholic faith that initially captured the attention of these theologians, each of these essays tells a fully human story. They are not collections of arguments, but stories of grace. Among the ten converts are Scott Hahn, Lawrence Feingold, Melanie Barrett, Petroc Willey, and Jeff Morrow. Each story offers a fresh glimpse at God's work in the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surrender to the Rhythm takes a trip back to the world before punk. Covering the bands, the pubs, the characters, the albums, the songs and the personal histories that emerged out of the 60s, it shows how they provided the foundations for the musical explosion that swept the UK after 1977. The role of London's Irish community in enabling this is discussed, as are the economic circumstances that prevailed then, both being factors which briefly led to a heavy concentration of affordable music venues in north London. Featuring in depth interviews with many of the period's leading musicians, it reassesses the brief pub-rock phenomenon and argues that its importance was greater than perceived at the time.
