Book Synopsis The Agricultural Sky by : K. R. Krishna
Download or read book The Agricultural Sky written by K. R. Krishna and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-06-02 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The agricultural sky" is a dominant natural entity that has influenced, interacted with, and guided the evolution of crops, farming practices, and cropping systems. The sky—and all its components—above and near agricultural areas is an important aspect of an agricultural enterprise—as important as soils, water, and crop species. The blue sky above crops that is seemingly clear, tranquil or sometimes filled with clouds, is really a repository of a large number of gases, mineral or organic particulate matter, dust, mist, turbulent wind, innumerable species of micro-organisms, tiny biotic flora/fauna, seeds, insects, etc. The agrarian sky supports complex interactions of biotic and abiotic aspects with perhaps immediate and/or delayed influence on crops sown on the ground. This volume helps us to better understand the importance of the sky above crop fields, with the goal to encourage revolutionary agronomic procedures that lead to higher yield. It is a comprehensive treatise on the agriculture sky, covering basic definitions, limits, and explanations about atmospheric layers like troposphere, stratosphere, and the phyllosphere. The volume addresses the nutrient dynamics in the sky and their relevance to crop productivity. It looks at both natural biotic and manmade abiotic factors in the sky and how they affect what goes on below, such as from dust storms, at cloudy and/or windy locations, and from high-altitude jet streams. The author discusses wind and solar power generation in the agrarian sky and explores aeroponics to revolutionize crop production. The volume delves into several types of aerial robots, employing AI and other technology, to provide aerial spectral data that are capable of analyzing procedures, soil conditions, irrigation, insect pests, weed detection, herbicide application, soil fertility, and much more. The book includes examples from the North American Great Plains, Pampas of Argentina, Sahelian production zones of West Africa, Indo-Gangetic Plains, etc. This eye-opening book, The Agricultural Sky: A Concept to Revolutionize Farming, will be useful to students and professors in universities as well as to researchers in industry dealing with aerial aspects of farming.
Book Synopsis Ecology of a Pest Grasshopper by : Susanta Nath
Download or read book Ecology of a Pest Grasshopper written by Susanta Nath and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an ecosystem, grasshoppers are considered as primary consumer. The attention of entomologists have attracted by grasshoppers , primarily because of their main dependence on vegetation and economically important plants for subsistence. Since antiquity grasshoppers represented themselves as a serious threat to mankind. Still now locust remains as a great terror to the people of different parts of the world. Records revealed that upto the end of the last century India was not free from mass destruction of crops by grasshoppers and locust. Many short horned grasshoppers have already established themselves as pest of various crops throughout the world. Acrida exaltata (Walker) is a minor pest, which causes damage to rice and jute in India and Bangladesh. Due to its greater relative abundance in the tropical world and its pest attribute, the ecological as well as biological features can provide clues which can assist in effective control by applying the principles of integrated pest management. The content of this book should help shed some light on these aspects of this pest grasshopper.

Book Synopsis Biogeography and Ecology of Southern Africa by : Marinus J.A. Werger
Download or read book Biogeography and Ecology of Southern Africa written by Marinus J.A. Werger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southern Africa is certainly not a naturally bounded area so that there are several possibilities for delineating it and concepts about its extent. Wellington* discussed the various possibilities for delineation and suggested that one line stands out more clearly and definitely as a physical boundary than any other, namely the South Equatorial Divide, the watershed between the ZaIre, Cuanza and Rufiji Rivers on the one hand and the Z ambezi, Cunene and Rovuma Rivers on the other. This South Equatorial Divide is indeed a major line of separation for some organisms and is also applicable in a certain geographical sense, though it does not possess the slightest significance for many other groups of organisms, ecosystems or geographical and physical features of Africa. The placing of the northern boundary of southern Africa differs in fact strongly per scientific dis cipline and is also influenced by practical considerations regarding the possibilities of scientific work as subordinate to certain political realities and historically grown traditions. This is illustrated, for example, in such works as the Flora of Southern Africa, where the northern boundary of the area is conceived as the northern and eastern political boundaries of South West Africa, South Africa and Swaziland. Botswana, traditionally included in the area covered by the Flora Zambesiaca, thus forms a large wedge in 'Southern Africa'.
Download or read book Locusts written by Caitie McAneney and published by Gareth Stevens Publishing LLLP. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just the mention of locusts can strike fear into the heart of a farmer. Locust plagues wreak havoc on crops and have been the cause of millions of people going hungry. This book examines the life of a locust and what happens to cause a swarm to form. Locust swarms can contain trillions of insects and cover hundreds of miles of land, so locust control is essential to countries dependent on crops. This book offers both historical and scientific information on locusts and impresses just how detrimental these creatures can be.
