Book Synopsis Physics of Gas-Liquid Flows by : Thomas J. Hanratty
Download or read book Physics of Gas-Liquid Flows written by Thomas J. Hanratty and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting tools for understanding the behaviour of gas-liquid flows based on the ways large scale behaviour relates to small scale interactions, this text is ideal for engineers seeking to enhance the safety and efficiency of natural gas pipelines, water-cooled nuclear reactors, absorbers, distillation columns and gas lift pumps. The review of advanced concepts in fluid mechanics enables both graduate students and practising engineers to tackle the scientific literature and engage in advanced research. It focuses on gas-liquid flow in pipes as a simple system with meaningful experimental data. This unified theory develops design equations for predicting drop size, frictional pressure losses and slug frequency, which can be used to determine flow regimes, the effects of pipe diameter, liquid viscosity and gas density. It describes the effect of wavy boundaries and temporal oscillations on turbulent flows, and explains transition between phases, which is key to understanding the behaviour of gas-liquid flows.
Book Synopsis Computational Methods in Multiphase Flow VII by : C. A. Brebbia
Download or read book Computational Methods in Multiphase Flow VII written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiphase flows are found in all areas of technology, at all length scales and flow regimes and can involve compressible or incompressible linear or nonlinear, fluids. However, although they are ubiquitous, multiphase flows continue to be one of the most challenging areas of computational mechanics, with numerous problems as yet unsolved. Advanced computational and experimental methods are often required to solve the equations that describe such complex problems. The many challenges that must be faced in solving them include modelling nonlinear fluids, modelling and tracking interfaces, dealing with multiple length scales, characterising phase structures, and treating drop break-up and coalescence. It is important to validate models, which calls for the use of expensive and difficult experimental techniques. This book presents contributions on the latest research in the techniques for solving multiphase flow problems, presented at the seventh in a biennial series of conferences on the subject that began in 2001. Featured topics include: Flow in porous media; Turbulent flow; Multiphase flow simulation; Image processing; Heat transfer; Atomization; Interface behaviour; Oil and gas applications; Experimental measurements; Energy applications; Biological flows; Micro and macro fluids; Compressible flows.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Analysis of slug flow in horizontal pipelines by the two fluid model by :
Download or read book Analysis of slug flow in horizontal pipelines by the two fluid model written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Determination and Characteristics of the Transition to Two-phase Slug Flow in Small Channels by :
Download or read book Determination and Characteristics of the Transition to Two-phase Slug Flow in Small Channels written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-phase pressure drop was measured in a small horizontal rectangular channel (hydraulic diameter = 5.44 mm). The two-phase fluid was an air/water mixture at atmospheric pressure tested over a mass flux range of 50 to 2000 kg/m[sup 2][center dot]s. Two-phase flow patterns were identified and an objective method was found for determining the flow pattern transition from bubble or plug flow to slug flow. The method is based on an RMS pressure measurement. In particular, it is shown that the transition is accompanied by a clear and abrupt increase in the RMS pressure when plotted as a function of mass quality. Use of the RMS pressure as a two-phase flow pattern transition indicator is shown to have advantages over pressure-versus-time trace evaluations reported in the literature. The transition is substantiated by a clear local change in slope in the curve of two-phase pressure drop plotted as a function of either Martinelli parameter or mass quality. For high mass fluxes, the change in slope is distinguished by a local peak. Some degree of substantiation was found in previous work for both of the results (the RMS pressure change and the local pressure drop change) at the transition to slug flow.
