Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donna Rogers lives in Florida, with her husband Jimmy, daughter, Kristen, and son, Dylan. God gave her a prophetic word about the impending demise of the United States in 2004 and told her to warn as many people as possible to repent and turn back to God before it is too late for our nation. She has actively pursued corresponding with various government officials and the majority of the Christian organizations to encourage them to join forces to help save our country based on the scripture, "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:12). In addition, Donna is the Administrative Director for a local ministry that feeds and clothes the homeless and those less fortunate. The intent of her book is twofold. First, it is to help people realize that no matter what you experienced as a child, you can overcome your circumstances and soar to unimaginable new heights with the help of God. This is critically important if you have children and have the desire to break the cycle of abuse and dysfunction. As a child Donna, was abandoned by both parents and suffered rejection, verbal, physical and sexual abuse. She candidly shares her testimony so parents can experience, through the eyes of a child, how the unwise choices and actions they make can profoundly affect their children for the majority of their lives. The cycle repeats itself until someone chooses a better way. Second, this book is a passionate plea to open your eyes to what has happened to our nation. We have the power to change where our nation is headed. We must unite and take action now to stop the impending destruction of our nation before it is too late!

Book excerpt: The Ottoman revolution of 1908 is a study in contradictions—a positive manifestation of modernity intended to reinstate constitutional rule, yet ultimately a negative event that shook the fundamental structures of the empire, opening up ethnic, religious, and political conflicts. Shattered Dreams of Revolution considers this revolutionary event to tell the stories of three important groups: Arabs, Armenians, and Jews. The revolution raised these groups' expectations for new opportunities of inclusion and citizenship. But as post-revolutionary festivities ended, these euphoric feelings soon turned to pessimism and a dramatic rise in ethnic tensions. The undoing of the revolutionary dreams could be found in the very foundations of the revolution itself. Inherent ambiguities and contradictions in the revolution's goals and the reluctance of both the authors of the revolution and the empire's ethnic groups to come to a compromise regarding the new political framework of the empire ultimately proved untenable. The revolutionaries had never been wholeheartedly committed to constitutionalism, thus constitutionalism failed to create a new understanding of Ottoman citizenship, grant equal rights to all citizens, and bring them under one roof in a legislative assembly. Today as the Middle East experiences another set of revolutions, these early lessons of the Ottoman Empire, of unfulfilled expectations and ensuing discontent, still provide important insights into the contradictions of hope and disillusion seemingly inherent in revolution.

Book excerpt: As Middle-East Bureau Chief of the French Public television network and a resident of Jerusalem since 1968, Charles Enderlin has had unequaled access to leaders and negotiators on all sides. Here he takes the reader step-by-step along the path that began with the hope of agreement but led only to the ultimate collapse of the peace process. The dramatic account moves between the occupied territories and the negotiation tables as it follows the emotional shifts in the conflict from the 1995 assassination of Yitzhak Rabin to the years when Benjamin Netenyahu was in power. In a definitive account of the meetings at Camp David in July 2000, Enderlin details what was said between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators brought together by Bill Clinton in the presence of Yasir Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority, and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

Book excerpt: Using the Biblical story of Naomi, Dr. Larry Crabb shows you how to look through life's tragedies to see the lavish blessings God has for you in Shattered Dreams. “Shattered dreams,” writes Dr. Larry Crabb, “are never random. They are always a piece in a larger puzzle, a chapter in a larger story. The Holy Spirit uses the pain of shattered dreams to help us discover our desire for God, to help us begin dreaming the highest dream.” To help you understand this neglected truth in the deepest and most helpful way, author and counselor Larry Crabb has written a wise, hopeful, honest, and realistic examination of life’s difficulties and tragedies. He wraps these insights around the bold story of Naomi in the Bible’s book of Ruth. As Crabb retells and illuminates this sometimes disturbing and often profoundly touching story, we are shown how God stripped Naomi of happiness in order to prepare her for joy. And we gain an unforgettable picture of how God uses shattered dreams to release better dreams and a more fulfilling life for those He loves. Shattered dreams have the power to change our lives for good. Join Larry Crabb on a life-changing adventure to encounter God in the midst of life’s most difficult times, and learn to live beyond your Shattered Dreams.

In a lyrical and immensely moving style, this book combines a family saga and a doomed love story, set against the background of French Polynesia in the period leading up to the first nuclear tests. The text is highly critical of the French government, and as a result its publication in Tahiti was polarising.

Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race,” a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and men—bodies exploited through slavery and segregation, and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’s attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son. Coates shares with his son—and readers—the story of his awakening to the truth about his place in the world through a series of revelatory experiences, from Howard University to Civil War battlefields, from the South Side of Chicago to Paris, from his childhood home to the living rooms of mothers whose children’s lives were taken as American plunder. Beautifully woven from personal narrative, reimagined history, and fresh, emotionally charged reportage, Between the World and Me clearly illuminates the past, bracingly confronts our present, and offers a transcendent vision for a way forward.

Book excerpt: From the USA TODAY bestselling author of Sweet Thing and Nowhere But Here comes a love story about a Craigslist “missed connection” post that gives two people a second chance at love fifteen years after they were separated in New York City. To the Green-eyed Lovebird: We met fifteen years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House. You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more. We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year than any other. Yet, somehow, it all fell apart. We lost touch the summer after graduation when I went to South America to work for National Geographic. When I came back, you were gone. A part of me still wonders if I pushed you too hard after the wedding… I didn’t see you again until a month ago. It was a Wednesday. You were rocking back on your heels, balancing on that thick yellow line that runs along the subway platform, waiting for the F train. I didn’t know it was you until it was too late, and then you were gone. Again. You said my name; I saw it on your lips. I tried to will the train to stop, just so I could say hello. After seeing you, all of the youthful feelings and memories came flooding back to me, and now I’ve spent the better part of a month wondering what your life is like. I might be totally out of my mind, but would you like to get a drink with me and catch up on the last decade and a half? M

Book excerpt: An often thrilling first-hand account of island politics in the era after independence. The St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) comes to power after 15 yeards in the wilderness and hardly settles into office before it is rent asunder by internal bickering over its leadership. In less than three years, the party is out of office again and both it and its main characters are fighting for their respective political lives. SHATTERED DREAMS is the story of the ups and downs of political activism and the personalities and events that shaped the emergence of the Caribbean island, for whose possession the English and French fought some of the bloodiest in this hemisphere in the 18th century. In SHATTERED DREAMS, Josie attempts to show how the rise to power in sister island Grenada of the Peoples Revolutionary Government (PRG) under Marxist Maurice Bishop in 1979 influenced super power involvement in the affairs of the Caribbean islands and could have contributed handsomely to the demise of both the SLP in the St Lucia and the PRG in Grenada.

When the government raided the fundamentalist, polygamous Mormon village of Short Creek, Arizona, Irene and her family fled to Verlan's brothers' Mexican ranch. They lived in squalor and desolate conditions in the Mexican desert with Verlan's six brothers, one sister, and numerous wives and children. Readers will be appalled and astonished, but most amazingly, greatly inspired. Irene's dramatic story reveals how far religion can be stretched and abused and how one woman and her children found their way out, into truth and redemption.

Book excerpt: On the Mexican-Arizona border two US border agents are murdered as they try to stop drugs from entering the country; in a convenience store parking lot in Las Vegas, Nevada, the wife of a private investigator is seriously wounded while sitting in her car waiting for her husband to buy milk to their baby; again in Nevada a father seeks help in freeing his daughter from the clutches of a drug lord; in Honolulu, Hawaii a family walks on the beach and discovers a vial of heroin washed ashore on the white sands, forever tainting their home in paradise. Seemingly the incidents are unrelated, yet they are enough alike to draw the Broken Dreams Detective Agency into the middle of a bloody, gang-related drug war. From the kidnapping and drugging of a Broken Dreams undercover agent, to the waylaying of a load of drugs intended for distribution in Las Vegas, to a tender love story, Broken Dreams finds their agency fighting four gangs who are waging war against each other to determine who will be the drug king in the greater Las Vegas valley. Watch out druggies, Broken Dreams is your worst nightmare.
