H Risley, and was published in 1877 in Volume XII of the Statis tical Account of Bengal by Sir W. W. Hunter. The present volume is the first of a new series of District Gazetteers, in 'which a different arrangement has been adopted for the subject-matter and detailed statistics have been relegated to a statistical Appendix.
