Book excerpt: What if being angry isn't your problem? No matter who you are, or where you are in your life, there was a time when you've had a run-in with our darkest emotion. Anger is universal. As uncomfortable as it is, feeling anger isn't the problem; it's what we fail to learn from it that is. Sacred Anger is a journey with the feeling that most of us avoid whenever possible. It is an excavation of the sources, and experiences of anger, and our relationship to it. Seryna Myers guides you through her process that deepens your understanding of how you really feel, extracts the lessons from it, and then gives you the tools to let it go. You'll learn: How to identify how and why you feel the way you do. How to understand anger (and other uncomfortable emotions) and what they're here to teach. How to work with and learn from anger to support your life's journey. Seryna's fresh take on such a heavy topic makes the exploration of anger something that feels light and good for the soul. Her storytelling makes these conversations about anger feel like they're happening with a trusted friend. Sacred Anger takes a grounded approach to this work, examining every facet of this emotion, making your anger one of the most valuable tools in your spiritual and emotional arsenal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Also available in an open-access, full-text edition at http://oaktrust.library.tamu.edu/handle/1969.1/86080 The black sun, an ages-old image of the darkness in individual lives and in life itself, has not been treated hospitably in the modern world. Modern psychology has seen darkness primarily as a negative force, something to move through and beyond, but it actually has an intrinsic importance to the human psyche. In this book, Jungian analyst Stanton Marlan reexamines the paradoxical image of the black sun and the meaning of darkness in Western culture. In the image of the black sun, Marlan finds the hint of a darkness that shines. He draws upon his clinical experiences—and on a wide range of literature and art, including Goethe’s Faust, Dante’s Inferno, the black art of Rothko and Reinhardt—to explore the influence of light and shadow on the fundamental structures of modern thought as well as the contemporary practice of analysis. He shows that the black sun accompanies not only the most negative of psychic experiences but also the most sublime, resonating with the mystical experience of negative theology, the Kabbalah, the Buddhist notions of the void, and the black light of the Sufi Mystics. An important contribution to the understanding of alchemical psychology, this book draws on a postmodern sensibility to develop an original understanding of the black sun. It offers insight into modernity, the act of imagination, and the work of analysis in understanding depression, trauma, and transformation of the soul. Marlan’s original reflections help us to explore the unknown darkness conventionally called the Self. Book excerpt: An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors is Curtis Craddock's delightful and engrossing fantasy debut featuring a genius heroine and her guardian, a royal musketeer, which Brandon Sanderson calls, "A great read!" Born with a physical disability, no magical talent, and a precocious intellect, Princess Isabelle des Zephyrs has lived her life being underestimated by her family and her kingdom. The only person who appreciates her true self is Jean-Claude, the fatherly musketeer who had guarded her since birth. All shall change, however, when an unlikely marriage proposal is offered, to the second son of a dying king in an empire collapsing into civil war. But the last two women betrothed to this prince were murdered, and a sorcerer-assassin is bent on making Isabelle the third. Isabelle and Jean-Claude plunge into a great maze of prophecy, intrigue, and betrayal, where everyone wears masks of glamour and lies. Step by dangerous step, Isabelle must unravel the lies of her enemies and discovers a truth more perilous than any deception. “A setting fabulous and strange, heroes to cheer for, villains to detest, a twisty, tricky plot — I love this novel!” —Lawrence Watt Evans “A thrilling adventure full of palace intrigue, mysterious ancient mechanisms, and aerial sailing ships!” —David D. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alchemy, Jung, and Remedios Varo offers a depth psychological analysis of the art and life of Remedios Varo, a Spanish surrealist painter. The book uses Varo’s paintings in a revolutionary way: to critique the patriarchal underpinnings of Jungian psychology, alchemy, and Surrealism, illuminating how Varo used painting to address cultural complexes that silence female expression. The book focuses on how the practice of alchemical psychology, through the power of imagination and the archetypal Feminine, can lead to healing and transformation for individuals and culture. Alchemy, Jung, and Remedios Varo offers the first in-depth psychological treatment of the role alchemy played in the friendship between Varo and Leonora Carrington—a connection that led to paintings that protest the pitfalls of patriarchy. This unique book will be of great interest for academics, scholars, and post-graduate students in the fields of analytical psychology, art history, Surrealism, cultural criticism, and Jungian studies.

Book excerpt: The Colonial Shadow examines the colonial psychology that has shaped what is now known as Canada. This psychology has perpetrated devastating harm over the last half a millennium and continues to oppress Indigenous people and degrade the environment. This book is inspired by the tenet of depth psychology that stories and myths from one’s own ancestry can bring about transformation and deep changes in perspective. As such, it investigates how an alchemical way of imagining into white settler colonial consciousness might contribute to its accountability and psychological healing today. The Colonial Shadow will be an invaluable resource for professionals, academics and students of Jungian and post-Jungian ideas, settler-colonial and First Nations studies, sociology, anthropology, and cultural studies as well as for anyone interested in addressing the colonial complex.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At least three major questions can be asked of myth: what is its subject matter? what is its origin? and what is its function? Theories of myth may differ on the answers they give to any of these questions, but more basically they may also differ on which of the questions they ask. C. G. Jung's theory is one of the few that purports to answer fully all three questions. This volume collects and organizes the key passages on myth by Jung himself and by some of the most prominent Jungian writers after him: Erich Neumann, Marie-Louise von Franz, and James Hillman. The book synthesizes the discovery of myth as a way of thinking, where it becomes a therapeutic tool providing an entrance to the unconscious. In the first selections, Jung begins to differentiate his theory from Freud's by asserting that there are fantasies and dreams of an "impersonal" nature that cannot be reduced to experiences in a person's past. Jung then asserts that the similarities among myths are the result of the projection of the collective rather than the personal unconscious onto the external world. Finally, he comes to the conclusion that myth originates and functions to satisfy the psychological need for contact with the unconscious--not merely to announce the existence of the unconscious, but to let us experience it.

Among several models discussed, destructive cultural drives are related to viruses and parasites in biology and information systems. Cyclical destructive behavior is attributed to the "victim-victor cycle". Culture and mind are shown to be organic operating systems which act as mediums for viral transmission of shadow energies. The authors share their own experiences and alchemical philosophy, as well as effective methods for balancing repressed destructive energies." What's next for those who have taken the "Red Pill"? The authors have found alchemical shadow work to be a powerful tool for balancing their internal states and the raising of their consciousness. The biggest battle for the minds of humanity is not waged "out there" - it's waged inside the psychic states of every human being.
