Man fragt sich, wie man die Anzeichen sexuellen Missbrauchs erkennt und möglichst objektiv deutet. Man fragt sich, wo sexueller Missbrauch wirklich beginnt. Man fragt sich, wie man Kindern den Ausdruck „Nein“ wirkungsvoll näherbringt, so dass sie ihn auch verwenden können. Man fragt sich, an wen man sich wenden kann, ob auf rein informativer Basis oder im Falle des konkreten Verdachts. Man fragt sich, wie man möglichst sensibel und einfühlsam das geschehene miteinander aufarbeiten kann, wenn dieses überhaupt im gegebenen Kontext möglich ist. Man stellt sich tausend Fragen und sucht ebenso viele Antworten. Ø Prävention beginnt immer mit Information. Man eignet sich einen Hintergrund an, der helfen soll fundierte Erkenntnisse und eigenen Erfahrungen miteinander zu verbinden. Dieses Grundwissen kann man sich aus vielfältigste Art und Weise aneignen: aus Fachzeitschriften, dem Internet, einschlägigen Büchern und Publikationen, Beiträgen aus Fernsehsendungen oder im Gespräch mit Hilfsorganisationen oder direkt mit Betroffenen, Kindern wie auch Eltern. Durch diese vorbereiteten Maßnahmen kann man eine wesentlich objektivere Haltung gewinnen und lernen sachgemäßer mit sexuellem Missbrauch umzugehen. In der Grundschule greift Prävention auch in die Elternarbeit über. Eine gute Elternarbeit im Hinblick auf Prävention von sexueller Gewalt ist eine doppelte Prävention. Speziell die niedersächsischen Rahmenrichtlinien (RRL) sagen nichts über die Präventionsarbeit in der Grundschule aus. Es öffnet sich somit ein Freiraum, der durch Schulleitung, Klassenlehrer oder Lehrerteams oder auch Elternvertretungen effektiv gefüllt und erfüllt werden kann. Es entstehen andererseits aber auch Unsicherheiten im Umgang mit der Prävention, wenn keine festen Grenzen gesetzt werden beziehungsweise gegeben sind. Es kann hierbei durchaus zu einer unsachgemäßen Auseinandersetzung kommen. Konkrete Möglichkeiten sollen später, nach dem Versuch einer Wissensaufarbeitung aufgezeigt werden.

Erst zu Beginn der 1980 ́er Jahre rückte die Thematik mehr und mehr in die Öffentlichkeit. Seither stehen sexuelle Übergriffe auch auf der politischen Tagesordnung und stellen kein Tabu mehr dar. Skandale wie die Regensburger Domspatzen, die Odenwaldschule, Fußballvereine in England aber auch tägliche Berichte in den Tageszeitungen und Nachrichten geben einen kleinen Einblick über öffentliche Diskussionen.
