This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ironically, after continually engaging in rigorous research on the topic of clergy sexual misconduct and abuse, another hideous sex scandal of an alleged religious cult leader was exposed on social media by gospel recording artist Vicki Yohe. While it is untrue that the president has returned Jesus to the White House, thankfully, God is revealing his truth about the narcissistic men who are master manipulators of evil deeds that destroy lives, specifically women’s. As a matter of fact, I feel that this perverted spirit is invading society from the White House (Trump), to the church house (Taylor), to the world (RKelly). How can I help in the destruction of these works of iniquity? How can I become another voice to sound the alarm in these vile, violent acts of sexual misconduct and abuse? As I prayed and inquired to God, while agonizing over the magnitude of this calamity, my doctoral dissertation became the birthing process of this book. This is a good place to publicly thank the cofounder / vice president / CEO of the Hope of Survivors, Samantha Nelson, for being a very active participant during my research plan. When she immediately agreed to write the foreword for this book, I was confident that the timing was right. A couple of days later, as budgeting was my next concern, my spiritual mother unexpectedly wrote the Twin Ministries a check that was enough to cover half of the cost of funding the publishing expense. I instantly interrupted the flow of working on other forthcoming projects to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit. Hence, I pray that this book will have a profound impact on the body of Christ by bringing pastoral accountability to its leaders, public awareness to the community, and personal amendments to victims and their families. To say the least, the church must not only deal with salvation and deliverance; as a community, we must perpetuate prevention and intervention! No more silence of the lamb! Thus, if you are part of the remnant of believers whom God is raising to be a new example of irreproachable transparency and integrity in business, ministry, and marriage, please share, share, and share!

Some believe “the past is nothing” and attempt to suppress the brokenness again and again. Others miss out on renewal and change by making the past more important than their present and future. Neither approach moves people toward healing or hope. Pastor and biblical counselor Stephen Viars introduces a third way to view one’s personal history—by exploring the role of the past as God intended. Using Scripture to lead readers forward, Viars provides practical measures to understand the important place “the past” is given in Scripture replace guilt and despair with forgiveness and hope turn failures into stepping stones for growth This motivating, compassionate resource is for anyone ready to review and release the past so that God can transform their behaviors, relationships, and their ability to hope in a future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clergy sexual abuse is a horrible reality. These essays reveal that between ten and twenty percent of clergy offend against the integrity of the pastoral relationship and the vulnerability of those entrusted to their care by crossing the boundary from religious service to sexual activity. The survivors of such abuse face terrible consequences of personal and relational brokenness and the loss of God and the church. The church and pastoral care and counseling agencies become conflicted by competing claims about responsibility and paralyzed by the threat of costly lawsuits from all involved parties. And the ongoing failure to bring perpetrators to account and to bring about vindication for the survivors undermines the vitality of our religious communities and the credibility of our message. . . . The core theme of these essays is the need to rethink and reconstitute power, including our view of God's power, into genuinely mutual and accountable arrangements. Healing, intimacy, reconciliation, and forgiveness derive from justice and vindication, rather than vice versa. The healing and restoration of persons, and a genuine social advance, will come only when we are able to reconceive power and order our practice of ministry, care, and counseling in non-coercive and non-patriarchal terms. The challenge is a cultural challenge, with serious consequences for elevating those of low degree and bringing the mighty down to the possibility of genuine redemption. --from the Introduction

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is your church prepared to care for individuals who have experienced various forms of abuse? As we continue to learn of more individuals experiencing sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse, it’s clear that resources are needed to help ministries and leaders care for these individuals with love, support, and in cooperation with civil authorities. This handbook seeks to help the church take a significant step forward in its care for those who have been abused. Working in tandem with the Church Cares resources and videos, this handbook brings together leading evangelical trauma counselors, victim advocates, social workers, attorneys, batterer interventionists, and survivors to equip pastors and ministry leaders for the appropriate initial responses to a variety of abuse scenarios in churches, schools, or ministries. Though the most comprehensive training is experienced by using this handbook and the videos together, readers who may be unable to access the videos can use this handbook as a stand-alone resource.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many popular views try to reduce the process of Christian growth to a single template: Remember past grace. Rehearse your identity in Christ. Avail yourself of the means of grace. Discipline yourself. But Scripture portrays the dynamics of sanctification in a rich variety of ways. No single factor, truth, or protocol can capture why and how a person is changed into the image of Christ. Weaving together personal stories, biblical exposition, and theological reflection, David Powlison shows the personal and particular ways that God meets you where you are to produce change. He highlights the variety of factors that work together, helping us to avoid sweeping generalizations and pat answers in the search for a key to sanctification. This book is a go-to resource for understanding the multifaceted, lifelong, personal journey of sanctification.
