Book Synopsis Building Home by : Eric John Abrahamson
Download or read book Building Home written by Eric John Abrahamson and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building Home is an innovative biography that weaves together three engrossing stories. It is one part corporate and industrial history, using the evolution of mortgage finance as a way to understand larger dynamics in the nation‘s political economy. It is another part urban history, since the extraordinary success of the savings and loan business in Los Angeles reflects much of the cultural and economic history of Southern California. Finally, it is a personal story, a biography of one of the nation‘s most successful entrepreneurs of the managed economy —Howard Fieldstad Ahmanson. Eric John Abrahamson deftly connects these three strands as he chronicles Ahmanson’s rise against the background of the postwar housing boom and the growth of L.A. during the same period. As a sun-tanned yachtsman and a cigar-smoking financier, the Omaha-born Ahmanson was both unique and representative of many of the business leaders of his era. He did not control a vast infrastructure like a railroad or an electrical utility. Nor did he build his wealth by pulling the financial levers that made possible these great corporate endeavors. Instead, he made a fortune by enabling the middle-class American dream. With his great wealth, he contributed substantially to the expansion of the cultural institutions in L.A. As we struggle to understand the current mortgage-led financial crisis, Ahmanson’s life offers powerful insights into an era when the widespread hope of homeownership was just beginning to take shape.

Book Synopsis Commercial Law Aspects of Residential Mortgage Securitisation in Australia by : Pelma Rajapakse
Download or read book Commercial Law Aspects of Residential Mortgage Securitisation in Australia written by Pelma Rajapakse and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-11 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book evaluates key commercial law aspects of the relevant law and legislation governing residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBSs) in Australia from a legal perspective. Within the context of a “public benefit test” framework, the book seeks to critically evaluate the impact and effectiveness of current law and regulation governing RMBSs. There is a dearth of both academic and practical literature on the legal and regulatory issues surrounding RMBSs in Australia. The book aims to make a contribution to the formulation of law and public policy by suggesting a number of reforms to the current law and practice surrounding RMBSs in Australia. In part, these suggested reforms will be based on the lessons learned from the experiences of overseas jurisdictions such as Canada, the U.K, and the United States.

Book Synopsis Small Business Administration by : William B. Shear
Download or read book Small Business Administration written by William B. Shear and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Small Business Administration's (SBA) 7(a) program is intended to provide loan guarantees to small business borrowers who cannot obtain conventional credit at reasonable terms and do not have the personal resources to provide financing themselves. In FY 2008, SBA guaranteed over 69,000 loans valued at about $13 billion. This report: (1) describes SBA's criteria and lenders' practices for determining that borrowers cannot obtain credit elsewhere; and (2) examines SBA's efforts to ensure that lenders are complying with the credit elsewhere provision. To meet these objectives, the auditor visited 18 lenders and reviewed 238 of their loan files, and reviewed 97 lender review reports. Includes recommendations. Charts and tables.
