Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncovering seven lessons from Scripture and the Puritans, John Carpenter applies the principles and practices that are often neglected by the church today but are key in making a church truly biblical. Drawing on his background as a scholar of Puritanism and years of planting and pastoring a church, Carpenter establishes each pillar on the Bible and shows, through Scripture and practical examples, how they work. Beginning with the tale of how an eyewitness account of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center shows us the perils of only seeing part of God's revelation, we see: why we must listen to what God says about himself; why we must understand that the gospel is not a self-help plan; why salvation is so simple that it can be reduced to a bumper sticker (“Jesus saves”) but is still so often misunderstood, leading to unconverted people leading churches; and why believers aren't called just to go to church but to be covenanted members of a specific church where they can be corrected by their pastors and where worship is centered on God, not on personalities, putting on a show, or attracting crowds.

Book excerpt: The revelations contained in the Bible serve as a supreme guide by which to measure all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions—and today’s Christians are in steady moral and spiritual decline. A 2010 survey by the Barna Research Group reveals that in American churches, Christians have become less knowledgeable about the Bible, less interested in spiritual disciplines, and more desirous of secular techniques to solve life’s problems, thus blurring the distinction between their conduct and that of nonbelievers. In Seven Pillars of Christianity: An Introduction to the Essential Christian Doctrines, Dr. William Ekane reveals the life-transforming foundations of the Christian faith and issues a clarion call for Christians to return to authentic Christianity. First presenting his compelling case for the scientific reliability and divine origin of the Bible, Dr. Ekane works closely with Scripture as he leads us through everything from the Lord Jesus Christ to trust and faith in the living God to, finally, the five major judgments and Revelation. These practical, strategic insights and essential truths are invaluable to new converts as well as mature believers. The Word of the Holy Spirit offers transformation, illuminating our hearts and minds as we strengthen our spiritual foundation and grow deeper in God.

Book excerpt: The present book is the second book in a seven book series entitled "The Seven Pillars of Discipleship." This particular book is based on the church and its doctrines. What is it that we believe and why. It is designed to provoke growth through probing questions in regard to the Scriptures. The concept behind the book grew from a desire to see the people of God grow in regard to their salvation. The church has always been a burden on my heart. Why is it that believers today don't seem to have a similar passion as those of the first century church? How is it that the church has so easily capitulated to the philosophies of this world? Why is the holiness of God, righteousness, repentance and judgment no longer part of the church's DNA? Of course I am speaking very generally for the most part. But that is why this book was written. Though it is written in the form of a bible study, the goal is to ask questions to lead one to think in regards to God's righteous standards and man's lowly state. Dr. Terren L. Dames was born in Nassau, Bahamas, has been married to his one wife Stacy for 20 years with four Children. Dr. Dames presently serves as senior pastor and elder at North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship in Plano Texas. He has an earned PhD from the University of North Texas in comparative higher education and cognate in Christian higher education, a Th.M. from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in practical theology, a MA from Dallas Theological Seminary in Christian Education and a BA from the College of Biblical Studies in Leadership. Dr. Dames is passionate about the word of God and His people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In their highly selective and literal reading of Scripture, creationists champion a rigidly reductionistic view of creation in their fight against "soulless scientism." Conversely, many scientists find faith in God to be a dangerous impediment in the empirical quest for knowledge. As a result of this ongoing debate, many people of faith feel forced to choose between evolution and the Bible's story of creation. But, as William Brown asks, which biblical creation story are we talking about? Brown shows that, through a close reading of biblical texts, no fewer than seven different biblical perspectives on creation can be identified. By examining these perspectives, Brown illuminates both connections and conflicts between the ancient creation traditions and the natural sciences, arguing for a new way of reading the Bible in light of current scientific knowledge and with consideration of the needs of the environment. In Brown's argument, both scientific inquiry and theological reflection are driven by a sense of wonder, which, in his words, "unites the scientist and the psalmist." Brown's own wonder at the beauty and complexity of the created world is evident throughout this intelligent, well-written, and inspirational book.

Pillar one or book one deals with the beginning of the discipleship process (salvation). In order for one to become a disciple of Jesus the Christ, he/she must first be born again—that is the acceptance of Christ as Lord and Savior and the repentance (turning away from) sin. Book one seeks to show why salvation is necessary and God’s plan to redeem the world through the death of His only begotten Son. A misunderstanding of salvation results in an eternal outcome, hence, this is probably the most important message in the series and the most essential to the foundation of the discipleship process.

And the apostle Paul referred to Jesus Christ as “the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24) to us. Legendary Bible teacher Herbert Lockyer unfolds the seven “pillars” of divine wisdom demonstrated in Christ’s incarnation and redeeming work on earth that the church upholds as essential truths of the faith. Understanding these pillars will help us to become more like Jesus and to fulfill God’s purposes, both here and in eternity: The Pillar of Mystery The Pillar of Incarnation The Pillar of Vindication The Pillar of Revelation The Pillar of Proclamation The Pillar of Belief The Pillar of Glorification The early church was dynamic in its witness because it continued steadfastly in these pillars of the Christian faith. Likewise, when we meditate reverently on the events and truths of Jesus’ coming to earth, we appreciate more deeply the great salvation that we have received, and we become more eager and able to share these liberating truths with others.

Book excerpt: “AND SAMPSON SAID TO THE YOUNG MAN WHO HELD HIM BY THE HAND, ‘LET ME FEEL THE PILLARS ON WHICH THE HOUSE RESTS, THAT I MAY LEAN AGAINST THEM’” (Judges 16:26, ESV) Mark Finely has rightly said that there are “seven basic teachings” on which God has built His church. “Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars.” These seven pillars are essential, and “the non-negotiables:” Scripture (John 17:17) Salvation (John 3:16) Second Coming (John 14:1-3) Sabbath (John 14:15) State of the Dead (John 11:11-26) Sanctuary (John 17:4, 11, 24) Holy Spirit and Spirit of Prophecy (John 14:15-17) (Prov. 9:1; Mark Finely, Solid Ground, p. 374) “The house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” is built on these seven pillars, 1 Tim. 3:15. Because of this, Dr. Norman identifies the church as an eight pillar. This eight pillar rests on the other seven “non-negotiables.” These “non-negotiables” are in turn rooted and grounded in Christ, and they define who we are as a biblical community of faith. Tragically though, great uncertainty concerning the pillars abound. The “non-negotiables” are under assault. And this assault will intensify as a mighty sifting sieve. “Those who seek to remove the old landmarks . . . bring in theories that would remove the pillars of our faith concerning the sanctuary . . . [they are] working as blind men . . . [they are] seeking to bring in uncertainties and to set the people of God adrift without an anchor,” (E. G. White, Manuscript Release No. 760. P. 9, 1905). If there ever was a time, we needed the resolve of Sampson, it is now! The author hopes that this book will inspire this resolve—a resolve that will lead us back to the pillars; back to the “non-negotiables.” Like Sampson, may we feel the pillars once again, and lean on “the non-negotiables” centered in Christ.

Book excerpt: Throughout the Bible, the number seven represents completeness and perfection. Seven receives much of its meaning from being joined directly to God’s creation of the world. Seven is the first printed work in a series called Seven Pillars. It’s a continuity of writings inspired by God and his word, the Bible. In the most unique way, each book differs in design, creativity, and message delivery. The author, Abigail Blue, was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, just a walking distance from the Atlantic Ocean. She moved to the northern metro area, where she raised her two children, Aenon and Eglah Blue. Her relationship with God is the foundation for all she does. Ms. Blue enjoys learning and applying the Bible to her daily life. Her message is God loves you more than anyone can. She refers to Seven: The Nine Fruits and the Seven Pillars as her groundwork of the series. The stories describe her real-life experiences, humility, and insight that took her to her journey until she found her divine purpose. In addition, the poems of the author’s daughter, Eglah Blue, add a real touch of vitality to the book. Each pillar (chapter) has one of Eglah’s creative lyrics.

Book excerpt: The most important book you'll ever read is the Bible; no book ever written about the Bible can replace God's Word. Get a Bible first, then order your copy of this book. To those of us who are Christians: Have we truly grasped the mission of Jesus, and do our actions and character faithfully reflect His authority as our Lord and Savior? Imagine a church in which faith in Christ was so deeply entrenched, its pastor would be spiritually fed each week by the congregation, instead of the dynamic seen today. It would be a church so biblically-grounded, so rooted in faith, and so confident of the Gift of Salvation from Christ that the pursuit of God's Promises would be a natural condition. "7 Pillars of an Unshakable Christian Faith" speaks to the soul of every true Christian willing to follow the teachings of Christ, the path of Biblical Discipleship, and the guidance of The Holy Spirit through Scripture. Every reader will find its content informative, practical, and easy to apply in modern Christian life. Pillar #1: Bible Study Methods and Correct Interpretation Pillar #2: Christ's Commission and Biblical Discipleship Pillar #3: Biblical History and Historical Theology Pillar #4: Biblical Apologetics and Defending Christianity Pillar #5: Purposeful Prayer and Biblical Fasting Pillar #6: Spiritual Warfare and Defeating Temptation Pillar #7: Applying Biblical Truth in Modern Christian Life Michael I. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you have been puzzled over how one Bible could be transformed into the many different Christian doctrines, this book is for you. Some years ago, after my daughter was born, I returned to art school to finish my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. I was glad to hear about a Christian fellowship on the campus. I asked one of the group leaders when the group met, and he promptly sent me a list of their beliefs, along with a question: "Do you believe these things?" It was a litmus test. He demanded to know if what I believed lined up with his group's doctrine. From previous experience, I knew there was only one correct way to answer: his way.I decided to pray and ask God how I should respond. I sensed God say that I should reply, "It is against my conscience to describe my beliefs outside of the scriptures." The verse I used is the following one.John 10:3636 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?I did not quote a famous theologian, a Christian creed, or a church doctrine to describe my beliefs. I repeated what Jesus said. My response was not the one he was looking for, because later I heard that I was the topic of discussion in that group, and they were even warning their members about me!How anyone reacts is not up to me. And since that day I have decided that I will not use anything else other than scripture to describe my beliefs. The Lord Jesus Christ is my example. After his baptism when Jesus heard his Father say, "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased," he went into the wilderness for 40 days. He was then confronted by the Devil, who said, "If you are the son of God..." God had said to Jesus, "This is..." and Satan said, "If you are..." How would you respond? What did Jesus use for his response? Did he quote a Jewish creed? How about what a famous rabbi said? Or, did he cite a Jewish tradition? No, none of the above. Here is what he said.ASV Matthew 4:44 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.That is what this book is about. What God said, versus what God never said. What God said will set you free.
