Book Synopsis Sermons: Preached on Various Occasions by : Blessed John Henry Newman

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS day we celebrate one of the most remarkable feasts in the Calendar. We commemorate a saint who gained the heavenly crown by prayers indeed and tears, by sleepless nights and weary wanderings, but not in the administration of any high office in the Church, not in the fulfilment of some great resolution or special counsel; not as a preacher, teacher, evangelist, reformer, or champion of the faith; not as Bishop of the flock, or temporal govornor; not by eloquence, by wisdom, or by controversial success; not in the way of any other saint whom we invoke in the circle of the year; but as a mother, seeking and gaining by her penances the conversion of her son. It was for no ordinary son that she prayed, and it was no ordinary supplication by which she gained him. When a holy man saw its vehemence, ere it was successful, he said to her, “Go in peace; the son of such prayers cannot perish”. The prediction, was fulfilled beyond its letter; not only was that young man converted, but after his conversion he became a saint; not only a saint but a doctor also, and “instructed many unto justice”. Download or read book Missio Dei and the Means of Grace written by David Martin Whitworth and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The missio Dei concept has shifted missiological thinking from an anthropocentric view of mission to the understanding that the church and persons are participants in the missio Dei. A Wesleyan perspective of grace and the means of grace inform the development of a theology of participation in the missio Dei that overcomes the repetitive articulations of mission as simply being human action or divine action. Through the means of grace, Christian disciples participate in the missio Dei as those transformed by God’s love and those through whom that love embraces and transforms the world. Missio Dei and the Means of Grace: A Theology of Participation offers a profoundly simple approach and understanding to twenty-first-century missiology that is applicable for all persons, all ages, and all ecclesial expressions of the Christian church, as participation in the missio Dei through the means of grace is understood to be a holistic way of life where spiritual formation is understood as inseparable from justice ministries.

Book Synopsis Ethics and Community by : Enrique Dussel
Download or read book Ethics and Community written by Enrique Dussel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-06-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive introductory approach to what liberation theology has to say about ethics and morals. Dussel begins by making a fundamental distinction between two types of ethical systems: community ethics and social morality. The first grows out of a central concern with community; the second out of isolated individualism. Dussel first poses ten questions basic to a discussion of ethics (on good and evil; personal and social sin; relative morals and absolute ethics, and others). Next, he examines ten contemporary issues requiring an ethical stance, among them: labor and the work ethic; capitalism and socialism; the arms race; and Third World debt and dependency. Rigorous in design and scholarship, yet clear and accessibly written, Ethics and Community offers the first single, systematic treatment of an ethics rooted, as liberation theology is rooted, in the concerns of the poor of Latin America--and the world.

Download or read book Speaking of Jesus written by Carl Medearis and published by David C Cook. This book was released on 2011-07-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of us fear moments when we need to defend our theology. Some of us seek them out. But we are seldom ready the way Jesus seemed to be ready. So how do we draw others to God in the midst of these ordinary conversations the way Jesus did? In Speaking of Jesus, Carl Medearis draws on his experience of international reconciliation between Muslims and Christians to remind us of the heart of the matter: Jesus. Here he gives us tools, stories, and the foundation we need to move beyond “us” and “them” and simply talk about the One who changes it all. As Carl writes, “While others are explaining and defending various isms and ologies we’re simply pointing people to our friend. The one who uncovers and disarms. Who leads people right to himself. The beginning and the end of the story. A good story indeed.”
