Book Synopsis Symposium On Self-Sustaining Mechanism of Wall Turbulence by :
Download or read book Symposium On Self-Sustaining Mechanism of Wall Turbulence written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a recent NSF-AFOSR workshop on self-sustaining mechanisms of wall turbulence several research groups presented their concepts This paper reviews the idea that were presented. The paper is to distribute this information to fluid dynamieists who are non specialist in turbulence. The production of turbulence and Reynolds stress centers around vortices and "streaks of low speed fluid near the wall. There are two main categories of self-sustaining mechanisms. In one category parent vortices interact with the wall and produce offspring. In the second category streak velocity profiles are unstable and produce vortices.

The structure of the wall turbulence is intrinsically related to the coherent structures that play a fundamental role in the transport process. The comprehension of their regeneration mechanism is indispensable for the development of efficient strategies in terms of drag control and near wall turbulence management. This book provides an up-to-date overview on the progress made in this specific area in recent years.
Book Synopsis IUTAM Symposium on Laminar-Turbulent Transition and Finite Amplitude Solutions by : Tom Mullin
Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Laminar-Turbulent Transition and Finite Amplitude Solutions written by Tom Mullin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-28 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exciting new direction in hydrodynamic stability theory and the transition to turbulence is concerned with the role of disconnected states or finite amplitude solutions in the evolution of disorder in fluid flows. This volume contains refereed papers presented at the IUTAM/LMS sponsored symposium on "Non-Uniqueness of Solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations and their Connection with Laminar-Turbulent Transition" held in Bristol 2004. Theoreticians and experimentalists gathered to discuss developments in understanding both the onset and collapse of disordered motion in shear flows such as those found in pipes and channels. The central objective of the symposium was to discuss the increasing amount of experimental and numerical evidence for finite amplitude solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations and to set the work into a modern theoretical context. The participants included many of the leading authorities in the subject and this volume captures much of the flavour of the resulting stimulating and lively discussions.
Book Synopsis Turbulence and Interactions by : Michel O. Deville
Download or read book Turbulence and Interactions written by Michel O. Deville and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-22 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “Turbulence and Interactions 2006“ (TI2006) conference was held on the island of Porquerolles, France, May 29-June 2, 2006. The scientific sponsors of the conference were • Association Française de Mécanique, • CD-adapco, • DGA • Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), • ERCOFTAC : European Research Community on Flow, Turbulence and Combustion, • FLUENT, • The French Ministery of Foreign Affairs, • Laboratoire de Modélisation en Mécanique, Paris 6, • ONERA. The conference was a unique event. Never before have so many organisations concerned with turbulence works come together in one conference. As the title “Turbulence and Interactions” anticipated, the workshop was not run with parallel sessions but instead of one united gathering where people had strong interactions and discussions. Many of the 85 or so attendants were veterans of previous ERCOFTAC conferences. Some young researchers attended their very first int- national meeting. The organisers were fortunate in obtaining the presence of the following - vited speakers: N. Adams (TUM, Germany), C. Cambon (ECL, France), J.-P. Dussauge (Polytech Marseille, France), D.A. Gosman (Imperial College, UK), Y. Kaneda (Nagoya University, Japan), O. Simonin (IMFT, France), G. Tryggvason (WPI, USA), D. Veynante (ECP, France), F. Waleffe (University of Wisconsin, USA), Y.K. Zhou (University of California, USA). The topics covered by the 59 papers ranged from experimental results through theory to computations. The papers of the conference went through the usual - viewing process for two special issues of international journals : Computers and Fluids, and Flow, Turbulence and Combustion.
Book Synopsis Basics of Engineering Turbulence by : David Ting
Download or read book Basics of Engineering Turbulence written by David Ting and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basics of Engineering Turbulence introduces flow turbulence to engineers and engineering students who have a fluid dynamics background, but do not have advanced knowledge on the subject. It covers the basic characteristics of flow turbulence in terms of its many scales. The author uses a pedagogical approach to help readers better understand the fundamentals of turbulence scales, especially how they are derived through the order of magnitude analysis. This book is intended for those who have an interest in flowing fluids. It provides some background, though of limited scope, on everyday flow turbulence, especially in engineering applications. The book begins with the ‘basics’ of turbulence which is necessary for any reader being introduced to the subject, followed by several examples of turbulence in engineering applications. This overall approach gives readers all they need to grasp both the fundamentals of turbulence and its applications in practical instances. Focuses on the basics of turbulence for applications in engineering and industrial settings Provides an understanding of concepts that are often challenging, such as energy distribution among the turbulent structures, the effective diffusivity, and the theory behind turbulence scales Offers a user-friendly approach with clear-and-concise explanations and illustrations, as well as end-of-chapter problems

Book Synopsis Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 5 by : W. Rodi
Download or read book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 5 written by W. Rodi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-08-21 with total page 1029 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulence is one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. As powerful computers and accurate numerical methods are now available for solving the flow equations, and since engineering applications nearly always involve turbulence effects, the reliability of CFD analysis depends increasingly on the performance of the turbulence models. This series of symposia provides a forum for presenting and discussing new developments in the area of turbulence modelling and measurements, with particular emphasis on engineering-related problems. The papers in this set of proceedings were presented at the 5th International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements in September 2002. They look at a variety of areas, including: Turbulence modelling; Direct and large-eddy simulations; Applications of turbulence models; Experimental studies; Transition; Turbulence control; Aerodynamic flow; Aero-acoustics; Turbomachinery flows; Heat transfer; Combustion systems; Two-phase flows. These papers are preceded by a section containing 6 invited papers covering various aspects of turbulence modelling and simulation as well as their practical application, combustion modelling and particle-image velocimetry.

Book Synopsis New Approaches and Concepts in Turbulence by : T. Dracos
Download or read book New Approaches and Concepts in Turbulence written by T. Dracos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-09-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of a colloquium held in Monte Verità from September 9-13, 1991. Special care has been taken to devote adequate space to the scientific discussions, which claimed about half of the time available. Scientists from all over the world presented their views on the importance of kinematic properties, topology and fractal geometry, and on the dynamic behaviour of turbulent flows. They debated the importance of coherent structures and the possibility to incorporate these in the statistical theory of turbulence, as well as their significance for the reduction of the degrees of freedom and the prospective of dynamical systems and chaos approaches to the problem of turbulence. Also under discussion was the relevance of these new approaches to the study of the instability and the origin of turbulence, and the importance of numerical and physical experiments in improving the understanding of turbulence.
