Several modifications have been made and are now continuing. The number of innovations has expanded substantially, particularly in the fields of education and social sciences. Innovations are produced by educators, scientists, and professionals. These innovations must be distributed to aid the development of society in the sphere of education and beyond. After the eradication of the disease, we shall assist one another in conquering it and then develop and prosper together. This volume contains the works of educators, researchers, practitioners, and academics presenting the most recent research results, issues, and practical difficulties and solutions found in the domains of Education, Cultural Studies, Applied Linguistics, and Community Services. Reimagining is a creative method to approach or address challenges associated with innovation in the fields of education, cultural studies, applied linguistics, community services, or social sciences. Due to the topic areas covered in this proceeding, it is appropriate for instructors, researchers, practitioners, and academics who specialize in the aforementioned subjects. Book excerpt: Intelligent Decision-Making Support Systems (i-DMSS) are specialized IT-based systems that support some or several phases of the individual, team, organizational or inter-organizational decision making process by deploying some or several intelligent mechanisms. This book pursues the following academic aims: (i) generate a compendium of quality theoretical and applied contributions in Intelligent Decision-Making Support Systems (i-DMSS) for engineering and management IT-based service systems (ITSS); (ii) diffuse scarce knowledge about foundations, architectures and effective and efficient methods and strategies for successfully planning, designing, building, operating, and evaluating i-DMSS for ITSS, and (iii) create an awareness of, and a bridge between ITSS and i-DMSS academicians and practitioners in the current complex and dynamic engineering and management ITSS organizational. The book presents a collection of 11 chapters referring to relevant topics for both IT service systems and i-DMSS including: problems of selection of IT service providers, optimization of supply chain systems, IT governance decisions, clinical decision support, dynamic user-interface adaptation, re-engineering of processes, and generic decision problems. Advanced IT technologies used in some chapters are: fuzzy multi-criteria mechanisms, semantic processing, data mining processing, and rough sets. Other chapters report traditional DSS mechanisms but used or suggested to be used in innovative mode for IT service engineering and management tasks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Empire's Violent End, Thijs Brocades Zaalberg and Bart Luttikhuis, along with expert contributors, present comparative research focused specifically on excessive violence in Indonesia, Algeria, Vietnam, Malaysia, Kenya, and other areas during the wars of decolonization. In the last two decades, there have been heated public and scholarly debates in France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands on the violent end of empire. Nevertheless, the broader comparative investigations into colonial counterinsurgency tend to leave atrocities such as torture, execution, and rape in the margins. The editors describe how such comparisons mostly focus on the differences by engaging in "guilt ranking." Moreover, the dramas that have unfolded in Algeria and Kenya tend to overshadow similar violent events in Indonesia, the very first nation to declare independence directly after World War II. Empire's Violent End is the first book to place the Dutch-Indonesian case at the heart of a comparison with focused, thematic analysis on a diverse range of topics to demonstrate that despite variation in scale, combat intensity, and international dynamics, there were more similarities than differences in the ways colonial powers used extreme forms of violence. By delving into the causes and nature of the abuse, Brocades Zaalberg and Luttikhuis conclude that all cases involved some form of institutionalized impunity, which enabled the type of situation in which the forces in the service of the colonial rulers were able to use extreme violence.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Selected Readings in Management This set of readings is designed to supplement standard texts in funda mentals of administrative or industrial management. Although the selec tions are arranged to be assigned concurrently with s'uch texts, they might well provide the basis for a variable-credit course dealing with specific management topics, such as human relations or organization theory. The articles could also be used to supplement a case course; for example, prob lems in administration policy and practice. Moreover, these readings should prove to be a stimulant and provide controversy for members of executive development programs. The purpose Of this readings text is twofold. First, a real understanding of management ultimately requires a professional or artistic orientation. Thus, contemporary textbooks emphasize such aspects of the subject, even at the expense of examining causal explanations and presenting the logic employed in developing specific techniques and concepts. Because of the changing nature of utilitarian Skills and techniques, progress in the field of management rests upon an understanding of its basic foundation. To further this Objective, many of the selections are drawn from disciplines which might be termed the mother sciences of management. She provides an evidence-based rationale for the best ways of improving cardiac care (in general and for specific conditions), describes important nursing initiatives to reduce the risk factors and presents a needs-based approach to patient education. Concerned with the need to bridge the current research-practice gap in coronary care, she knows how nurses can make the best use of available research and describes the advances that are being made in nurse-led services in this area. Contemporary Issues in Coronary Care Nursing offers a non-medical approach to coronary care and is informed throughout by the latest nursing theory and research.
