Daher soll geklärt werden, inwieweit dieses Verhalten als Lebensbewältigung zählt und wie wir als Sozialarbeiter:innen, die Arbeit der psychologischen Fachkraft unterstützen können. Um diese Fragen klären zu können, wird sich in der Arbeit zunächst mit selbstverletzendes Verhalten auseinandergesetzt. Dabei wird darauf eingegangen, was selbstverletzendes Verhalten ist und in welchen Formen es sich zeigt. Die Ursachen und die Funktionen werden betrachtet, um daraus den Umgang mithilfe des Konzepts der Lebensbewältigung ableiten zu können. In meiner täglichen Arbeit im Bereich stationärer Jugendhilfe begegnet mir öfters selbstverletzendes Verhalten. Vor allem in der Arbeit in einer therapeutischen Wohngruppe. Die meisten Bewohner einer Einrichtung der stationären Jugendhilfe haben kritische Lebenserfahrungen gemacht. Das lässt sich aus den Gründen für die Hilfegewährung ableiten. Sie sind die Unversorgtheit der Kinder/Jugendlichen, die unzureichende Förderung, Betreuung und Versorgung der Kinder/Jugendlichen, die Gefährdung des Kindeswohls, sowie die eingeschränkte Erziehungskompetenz der Eltern beziehungsweise Personensorgeberechtigten. Bei Jugendlichen ist der Hauptgrund die Unversorgtheit. Dies zeigt sich dann in Auffälligkeiten des Sozialverhaltens.
