Hunt survived, but found no peace. When he performs an arcane ritual to reclaim the soul of the magically gifted, beautiful women who once saved him, he must flee the law once again, to the temporary sanctuary of Los Angeles, city of angels. In L.A., Hunt must contend with Carlos Fuentes, who sees in the blind exorcist a means to obtain the mystical key that opens the gates of Hell. Fuentes knows Hunt's weakness is his loyalty, both to the woman he loves and to another supernaturally gifted friend, and threatens to torture them in order to get Hunt help complete his dreadful quest. Hunt has learned a lot since his life was irrevocably hijacked by faith months ago. But when enigmatic Preacher calls in his marker for helping Hunt in New Orleans, Hunt knows that all his newfound experience and ability will go for naught unless he can keep both the Preacher and Fuentes at bay long enough to somehow find a way to free his friends from mortal peril.

It contains four kinds of teaching: first, insights derived from pondering the meaning of selected phrases and prayers from the traditional liturgy; second: four chapters on the personalist theology behind traditional Jewish prayer; third, meditations on the liturgy and clear instructions on how to pray certain prayers; and, fourth, instructions on how to pray certain prayers mystically. Both those well-acquainted with the prayerbook and those completely unfamiliar with it will be able to derive benefit from this book. It is a continuation of the main themes of Blumenthal’s earlier work in Jewish spirituality, theology, and mysticism.

Download or read book The Golden Crumbs written by Rizalito Etcobanez and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Bible is a life-giving collection of sixty-six inspiring literary masterpieces. Hebrews 4:12 states that The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The author has first encountered this life-changing word of God over 40 years ago; his life got drastically changed. This book is a collection of his personal thoughts and experiences compiled daily as he studied the Bible during his devotional time. Indeed, great blessings are experienced when the Bible is studied in its entirety. Yet, even a quick perusal can be spiritually beneficial, too. We may liken a Bible verse merely as a crumb from the whole loaf of Gods word. But they are golden, hence, the title The Golden Crumbs.
Book Synopsis The First Testament by : John Goldingay
Download or read book The First Testament written by John Goldingay and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awash in a sea of Bible translations, do we need yet another? Most translations bend the text toward us. They make the rough places smooth, the odd bits more palatable to our modern sensibilities. In every translation something is gained and something lost. In The First Testament: A New Translation, John Goldingay interrupts our sleepy familiarity with the Old Testament. He sets our expectations off balance by inviting us to hear the strange accent of the Hebrew text. We encounter the sinewed cadences of the Hebrew Bible, its tics and its textures. Translating words consistently, word by word, allows us to hear resonances and see the subtle figures stitched into the textual carpet. In a day of white-bread renderings of the Bible, here is a nine-grain translation with no sugar or additives. In The First Testament the language of Zion comes to us unbaptized in pious religiosity. Familiar terms such as salvation, righteousness, and holiness are avoided. We cock our ears to listen more carefully, to catch the intonations and features we had not caught before: “Yahweh said to Abram, ‘Get yourself from your country, from your homeland, and from your father’s household, to the country that I shall enable you to see, and I shall make you into a big nation. I shall bless you and make your name big and you’ll become a blessing." (Gen 12:1-2) “Hey, you who wish for Yahweh’s day. What good really is Yahweh’s day to you?— it will be darkness, not light.” (Amos 5:18) “My shepherd being Yahweh, I don’t lack; he enables me to lie down in grassy pastures. He leads me to settled water; he turns my life back.” (Ps 23:1-3) The First Testament is an invitation to read the sacred text through the eyes of one of the most accomplished Old Testament scholars in the English-speaking world today. With introductions to each book, it is an attractive translation for the classroom as much as for personal study and enjoyment.
