Book Synopsis Seismic Performance Assessment of Code-designed Structures by : Howard H-M. Hwang
Download or read book Seismic Performance Assessment of Code-designed Structures written by Howard H-M. Hwang and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report presents a method to assess the actual seismic performance of code-designed structures, in particular, shear wall structures. A probabilistic approach is used so that uncertainties in earthquake ground motions, structural responses, and structural capacities can be taken into consideration. Uncertainty in earthquake ground accelerations is explicitly accounted for by generating an ensemble of acceleration time histories from appropriate power spectral density functions and duration of strong motion. The modified Takeda hysteretic model is utilized to describe the nonlinear behavior of structures. The nonlinear seismic analyses are performed to obtain the structural responses, which are then statistically analyzed. The statistics of the structural capacities can also be established based on the defined limit states. The performance of structures is measured in terms of the limit state probability, i.e., the probability that the structural response exceeds the structural capacity. The proposed method may be applied to various types of structures to evaluate the limit state probabilities. Given the limit state probabilities, the authority can consider the societal risk due to the occurrence of earthquakes and make a decision on the appropriate level of earthquake protection."--Abstract
Download or read book SEAOC Blue Book written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SEAOC Blue Book: Seismic Design Recommendations is the premier publication of the SEAOC Seismology Committee. The name Blue Book is renowned worldwide among engineers, researchers, and building officials. Since 1959, the SEAOC Blue Book, previously titled Recommended Lateral Force Requirements and Commentary, has been a prescient publication of earthquake engineering. The Blue Book has been at the vanguard of earthquake engineering in California and around the world. This edition of the Blue Books offers a series of articles, that cover specific topics, some related to a particular code provision and some more general relating to an area of practice. While different than the previous editions of the Blue Books, it builds upon the tremendous effort of those who have forged earthquake engineering practice via the previous half-century of Blue Book editions. The Blue Book provides: insight and discussion of earthquake engineering concepts; interpretations of sometimes ambiguous or conflicting provisions of various codes, standards, and guidelines; and practical guidance on design implementation.

Book Synopsis Quantification of Building Seismic Performance Factors by :
Download or read book Quantification of Building Seismic Performance Factors written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a recommended methodology for reliably quantifying building system performance and response parameters for use in seismic design. The recommended methodology (referred to herein as the Methodology) provides a rational basis for establishing global seismic performance factors (SPFs), including the response modification coefficient (R factor), the system overstrength factor, and deflection amplification factor (Cd), of new seismic-force-resisting systems proposed for inclusion in model building codes. The purpose of this Methodology is to provide a rational basis for determining building seismic performance factors that, when properly implemented in the seismic design process, will result in equivalent safety against collapse in an earthquake, comparable to the inherent safety against collapse intended by current seismic codes, for buildings with different seismic-force-resisting systems.

Book Synopsis Advanced Methods for Seismic Performance Evaluation of Building Structures by : Sang Whan Han
Download or read book Advanced Methods for Seismic Performance Evaluation of Building Structures written by Sang Whan Han and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue was created to collect the most recent and novel research on seismic performance evaluation of building structures. This issue includes three important topics on seismic engineering for building structures: (1) seismic design and performance evaluation, (2) structural dynamics, and (3) seismic hazard and risk analysis. To protect building structures from earthquakes, it is necessary to conduct seismic performance evaluations on structures with reliable methods and to retrofit these structures appropriately using the results of the seismic performance evaluation.

Download or read book Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards: Supporting Documentation written by and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2015 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) handbook can be used by trained personnel to identify, inventory, and screen buildings that are potentially seismically vulnerable. The RVS procedure comprises a method and several forms that help users to quickly identify, inventory, and score buildings according to their risk of collapse if hit by major earthquakes. The RVS handbook describes how to identify the structural type and key weakness characteristics, how to complete the screening forms, and how to manage a successful RVS program.
