Les inconvénients de cette méthode ont motivé la recherche d'un nouveau champ de force externe non dérivé d'un potentiel : le flux de vecteurs gradients (GVF) défini par C.Xu et J.L.Prince comme la solution d'un problème de minimisation.Nous étudions ici les propriétés mathématiques d'existence et de régularité du flux de vecteurs gradients. Ensuite le GVF combiné avec le modèle des contours actifs géodésiques par N.Paragios et al. conduit à une équation de Hamilton-Jacobi dont nous montrons l'existence et l'unicité d'une solution de viscosité. Nous implémentons ce modèle en utilisant dans un premier temps un schéma explicite puis un schéma de type AOS (« Additive Operator Splitting ») et l'appliquons à des images de tuffeau obtenues par microtomographie aux rayons X, afin d'identifier les différents composants de la pierre.

Nous segmentons l’image par un algorithme de contours actifs, dans le cadre d’une approche variationnelle. Partant, d’un contour initial quelconque, le contour actif évolue vers la région d’intérêt, dirigé par une équation aux dérivées partielles. L’équation d’évolution du contour actif est déduite de la dérivation du critère définissant la région. Au vu de la dépendance du critère à la région considérée, la dérivation du critère par rapport à la région n’est pas aisée. Nous utilisons des outils de dérivation empruntés à l’optimisation de domaine : les gradients de forme. La contribution de cette thèse réside dans l’élaboration et l’étude de différents descripteurs de régions. Pour chaque critère, nous calculons la dérivée du critère à l’aide des gradients de forme et en déduisons l’équation d’évolution du contour actif. Le premier descripteur définit un a priori géométrique sans contrainte paramétrique : il minimise la distance du contour actif à un contour de référence. Nous l’avons appliqué à la déformation de courbe (shape warping), la segmentation et le suivi de cible (tracking). Le deuxième descripteur définit conjointement une région et son mouvement sur plusieurs images consécutives. Le mouvement de la région est représenté par un modèle de mouvement. Nous avons appliqué ce critère à l’estimation et la segmentation conjointe du mouvement et au suivi d’objets en mouvement.

Book excerpt: The program of the Institute covered several aspects of functional integration -from a robust mathematical foundation to many applications, heuristic and rigorous, in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It included analytic and numerical computational techniques. One of the goals was to encourage cross-fertilization between these various aspects and disciplines. The first week was focused on quantum and classical systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom; the second week on field theories. During the first week the basic course, given by P. Cartier, was a presentation of a recent rigorous approach to functional integration which does not resort to discretization, nor to analytic continuation. It provides a definition of functional integrals simpler and more powerful than the original ones. Could this approach accommodate the works presented by the other lecturers? Although much remains to be done before answering "Yes," there seems to be no major obstacle along the road. The other courses taught during the first week presented: a) a solid introduction to functional numerical techniques (A. Sokal) and their applications to functional integrals encountered in chemistry (N. Makri). b) integrals based on Poisson processes and their applications to wave propagation (S. K. Foong), in particular a wave-restorer or wave-designer algorithm yielding the initial wave profile when one can only observe its distortion through a dissipative medium. c) the formulation of a quantum equivalence principle (H. Kleinert) which. given the flat space theory, yields a well-defined quantum theory in spaces with curvature and torsion.
