Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eclectic mix of personal essays, poems and scholarly articles and the teachings of Guru Nanak that form this volume have come from contributors of not only the Sikh community in India, Pakistan and the diaspora, but also from people belonging to other faiths who have been touched by the mystique of the faith of Baba Nanak. By placing the personal records alongside with the scholarly insights into His teachings, what we have understood is that there is a Nanak for each one of us – a Nanak within each one of us – and it is this Nanak which abides in our consciousness and whom we need to seek out and discover. This book is, therefore, meant both for the initiated as well as the uninitiated. The lay readers will get a glimpse into the richness of thought and experience that an acquaintance with Guru Nanak brings with it. For the scholarly, the insights by the contributors who have dedicated their lives to an understanding of Sikhi will help in opening newer vistas of the Gurbani. The plurality of views expressed mirrors the free thinking and the respect for human beings and the upholding of human dignity that Nanakji propagated, practiced and stood for.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New expressions of church that are proliferating among Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and other non-Christian religious communities, including so-called insider movements, have raised intense discussion in missiological circles. In Seeking Church, Darren Duerksen and William Dyrness address these issues by exploring how all Christian movements have been and are engaged in a "reverse hermeneutic," where the gospel is read and interpreted through existing cultural and religious norms. Duerksen and Dyrness draw on the growing social-scientific work on emergent theory—the concept that social communities arise over time in ways that reflect specific historical and cultural dynamics. This is a missiological process, they argue, in which God has always worked through people and their culture to shape his witness in the world. They illustrate emergent theory through historical and contemporary case studies and consider the church's contextualized nature by exploring biblical models of the church, worship practices as emergent, and ecclesial markers that identify emerging churches and their distinctive witness. For missiologists, theologians, practitioners, and all who ponder the challenge and opportunities of mission among other religious communities, Seeking Church offers a multidisciplinary conceptual framework with which to understand the global diversity of the body of Christ. The Spirit is constantly drawing people toward God's community, causing new expressions of church to emerge and thus displaying new facets of his work and character. Missiological Engagements charts interdisciplinary and innovative trajectories in the history, theology, and practice of Christian mission, featuring contributions by leading thinkers from both the Euro-American West and the majority world whose missiological scholarship bridges church, academy, and society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buddhism and Sikhism, founded by the Lord Buddha and Guru Nanak respectively are both religions of India with a two thousand-year gap between the two faiths. Tarungpa Tulku in his 1966 article Guru Nanak in Tibet—A Buddhist view point wrote that Tibetan Buddhists have a special connection with Sikhism due to the belief that Guru Nanak was a manifestation of Guru Padmasambhava. It is with this curiousity that the idea for this book was conceived, leading to the discovery of an astonishing number of similarities between the two spiritual traditions. This comparative study, the first major attempt of its kind, scoured the entire Sikh Scripture Shri Guru Granth Sahib and found numerous parallels with the Buddhist Canon, especially Pali; ranging from the life stories of the founding fathers of the two faiths, their social agenda and core tenets to articles of faith, including religious symbolism. It is hoped that this research can in some way, help to blur the divisions between religious labels and bring out pure spirituality—devoid of fixation on religious externalities which leads to much dissent, especially in this degenerate ere. While acknowledging the rich diversity and uniqueness of each spiritual tradition, this book eventually comes to the conclusion that spirituality transcends religious labels. We have come to appreciate that although the externalities of religion may differ vastly—spiritual insights remain universal!

Book excerpt: Through this book, I would take the readers on a virtual trip by gliding through the long, winding roads of one of the most picturesque places on planet earth – Leh Ladakh! Accompanying me on this trip are 7 ordinary individuals, who have never done a bike ride let alone visited mountainous terrains with an altitude of 11,562 ft… Here we are… 8 amateur riders… seeking the pleasure of losing our bikers’ virginity to the place or as its most commonly said – “Getting Leh’d”… This book is my attempt to pen down the emotions each one of us went through during our maiden 10-day road trip to Leh Ladakh, to relive the moments and hopefully, to inspire others to take the plunge into a once-in-a-lifetime experience… Being a real-life story, I have abstained from any fiction or suspense but for the travel enthusiasts who love thrills and have a passion to explore the world as is, it would be worth a read! With this book, I hope to encourage my fellow readers to achieve their aspirations in life or at least experience what it means to “go out of the comfort zone”… I am certain that the characters in this book would bring a smile and connect with everyone at some level... Experience Leh Ladakh/ Himalayas through our eyes

Book excerpt: "At a time when each Society had its own medium of propogation of its researches ... in the form of Transactions, Proceedings, Journals, etc., a need was strongly felt for bringing out a journal devoted exclusively to the study and advancement of Indian culture in all its aspects. [This] encouraged Jas Burgess to launch the 'Indian antiquary' in 1872. The scope ... was in his own words 'as wide as possible' incorporating manners and customs, arts, mythology, feasts, festivals and rites, antiquities and the history of India ... Another laudable aim was to present the readers abstracts of the most recent researches of scholars in India and the West ... 'Indian antiquary' also dealt with local legends, folklore, proverbs, etc. In short 'Indian antiquary' was ...entirely devoted to the study of MAN - the Indian - in all spheres ... " -- introduction to facsimile volumes, published 1985.
