Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our journey through life is an abventure - a complex mixture of circumstances, events and experiences. Along the way, we encounter people, places and things that through our unique sensitivities cause us to form concepts, opinions and feelings - personal revelations generated by the words, thoughts, attitude and actions of others - to form who we are, how we think and act and what we're all about. At times, we may encounter an isolated incident that impacts upon our life like no other, leaving behind an impression never to be forgotten, to serve as a giant barometer of comparison for other events and experiences to follow - whether they are imagine or real - happy or sad - humorous, mystical or magical, or whatever - to remain as a concrete reference life can either be a fountain of joy, a pit of unbearable anguish, or an unpredictable couldron of unforeseeable circumstances - revelations that, over time, tend to mold and form our own personality, character and attitude. This collection of verse is representative of some of the revelations and experiences perceived and personalized by this writer - and what this book is all about - for the most part.
Book Synopsis Seeds and Sovereignty by : Jack Ralph Kloppenburg
Download or read book Seeds and Sovereignty written by Jack Ralph Kloppenburg and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1988-06-06 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeds for economically important crops are big business indeed. As large seed companies continue to improve their product in various ways, they make use of the original gene pools of these plants, often located in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. With increasing recognition that plant germplasm is an important raw material, highly charged international disputes have developed over the exchange and use of this material, adding another point of contention between poor nations and the manufacturing wealthier ones. Twenty experts from several nations, representing both the natural and social sciences, consider the historical background, the issue of patent rights as applied to plant germplasm, the nature of global genetic interdependence, the internationalization of the seed industry, the implications of biotechnology on genetic resources, the Third World attitude toward the debate, and the viewpoints of the International Agricultural Research Centers.

Book excerpt: Through historical and comparative research on the immigrant rights movements of the United States, France and the Netherlands, Cities and Social Movements examines how small resistances against restrictive immigration policies do – or don’t – develop into large and sustained mobilizations. Presents a comprehensive, comparative analysis of immigrant rights politics in three countries over a period of five decades, providing vivid accounts of the processes through which immigrants activists challenged or confirmed the status quo Theorizes movements from the bottom-up, presenting an urban grassroots account in order to identify how movement networks emerge or fall apart Provides a unique contribution by examining how geography is implicated in the evolution of social movements, discovering how and why the networks constituting movements grow by tracing where they develop Demonstrates how efforts to enforce national borders trigger countless resistances and shows how some environments provide the relational opportunities to nurture these small resistances into sustained mobilizations Written to appeal to a broad audience of students, scholars, policy makers, and activists, without sacrificing theoretical rigor
Download or read book Just Food written by James E. McWilliams and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2009-08-26 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We suffer today from food anxiety, bombarded as we are with confusing messages about how to eat an ethical diet. Should we eat locally? Is organic really better for the environment? Can genetically modified foods be good for you? JUST FOOD does for fresh food what Fast Food Nation (Houghton Mifflin, 2001) did for fast food, challenging conventional views, and cutting through layers of myth and misinformation. For instance, an imported tomato is more energy-efficient than a local greenhouse-grown tomato. And farm-raised freshwater fish may soon be the most sustainable source of protein. Informative and surprising, JUST FOOD tells us how to decide what to eat, and how our choices can help save the planet and feed the world.

Book Synopsis Christianity Is Not for Cowards by : Roberta Palmer Grummond
Download or read book Christianity Is Not for Cowards written by Roberta Palmer Grummond and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you hesitant to reveal your Christian faith in the world today? Do you sit in silence as others ridicule church and Jesus Christ? Do you cringe but turn a deaf ear when others curse and take the name of the Lord in anger? You are not alone. Christians everywhere are shrinking into the background of life to avoid confrontation with a world that is blind to the ways of the Kingdom of God. Roberta Palmer Grummond's Christianity Is Not for Cowards offers a wealth of ways to combat unbelievers and remain grounded in faith even during trying times, including doing good works, spending time alone with God's Word, and facing fear head-on. Realizing that the world has been shaken to its core in these last days, she reveals signs that will identify Christians and encourages believers everywhere in a time when Christians inevitably face challenges to their faith in God. Christianity is not a religion for wimps and milquetoasts. It takes courage to be a Christian today, along with strength of character, wisdom, and a whole lot more, as outlined in this thought-provoking book. Indeed, Christianity Is Not for Cowards! My faith has been visited by this powerful book and has been strengthened. Now I feel compelled to be a more vocal and active Christian—a soldier for my Father, Jesus. —Pat Robbins
Book Synopsis International Trade Regulation by : Zhiqiong June Wang
Download or read book International Trade Regulation written by Zhiqiong June Wang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international trade regulatory system is a dynamic system that has been evolving throughout its history. Tension and conflict are part of the system. While calls for the abolition of the principal trade regulation authority, the WTO, have failed to understand this nature of the system, proponents for reforms have so far not paid sufficient attention to the evolving nature of tension and conflict. This book examines the evolving dynamics in international trade regulation from the conclusion of GATT in 1947 to the current crisis facing the WTO, from a perspective of emerging powers of developing countries with a focus of China as the latest force that demands reforms of the international trade regulatory regime. There is an extensive body of scholarship on ideological struggles, the rise of developing countries, geopolitical contest, the emerging powers (especially China), the use, misuse or abuse of trading rules and so on. There is, however, a lack of a single concise research book that synthesises these underlying causes and factors into a coherent and precise analytical theme. This book attempts to fill this research gap by building upon the existing scholarship and placing the various tensions and conflicts in a perspective that treats them as dynamic factors that have propelled a continuing process of evolution of the international trade regulation. The book will interest those researching on international trade regulation as well as development studies.
