Download or read book Plasma Astrophysics, Part II written by Boris V. Somov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-16 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-part book is devoted to classic fundamentals and current practices and perspectives of modern plasma astrophysics. This second part discusses the physics of magnetic reconnection and flares of electromagnetic origin in space plasmas in the solar system, single and double stars, relativistic objects, accretion disks and their coronae. More than 25% of the text is updated from the first edition, included the additions of new figures, equations and entire sections on topics such as topological triggers for solar flares and the magnetospheric physics problem. This book is aimed at professional researchers in astrophysics, but it will also be useful to graduate students in space sciences, geophysics, applied physics and mathematics, especially those seeking a unified view of plasma physics and fluid mechanics.
Book Synopsis Physics of the Plasma Universe by : Anthony L. Peratt
Download or read book Physics of the Plasma Universe written by Anthony L. Peratt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today many scientists recognize plasma as the key element to understanding new observations in near-Earth, interplanetary, interstellar, and intergalactic space; in stars, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies, and throughout the observable universe. Physics of the Plasma Universe, 2nd Edition is an update of observations made across the entire cosmic electromagnetic spectrum over the two decades since the publication of the first edition. It addresses paradigm changing discoveries made by telescopes, planetary probes, satellites, and radio and space telescopes. The contents are the result of the author's 37 years research at Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories, and the U.S. Department of Energy. This book covers topics such as the large-scale structure and the filamentary universe; the formation of magnetic fields and galaxies, active galactic nuclei and quasars, the origin and abundance of light elements, star formation and the evolution of solar systems, and cosmic rays. Chapters 8 and 9 are based on the research of Professor Gerrit Verschuur, and reinvestigation of the manifestation of interstellar neutral hydrogen filaments from radio astronomical observations are given. Using data from the Green Bank 100-m telescope (GBT) of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), detailed information is presented for a non-cosmological origin for the cosmic microwave background quadruple moment. This volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers active in the areas of cosmic plasmas and space science. The supercomputer and experimental work was carried out within university, National laboratory, Department of Energy, and supporting NASA facilities.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 913 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 7th International Workshop in the series LASER INTERACTION AND RELATED PLASMA PHENOMENA continued the high standards established by the earlier meetings in this series. It was organized under the directorship of Heinrich Hora and George H. Miley at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, with Fred Schwirzke as the local organizer. These workshops have presented many "firsts" in laser plasma interactions and especially in laser fusion. Some presentations provided continuity with the past, most represented advancements; however, in some workshops, progress did not appear to be occurring as rapidly as in others. Therefore, it was a special pleasure that in the present workshop when, on October 30, 1985, Chiyoe Yamanaka disclosed a breakthrough in the generation of fusion neutrons with laser fusion targets. The 7th Workshop also continued to represent other new fields of laser-plasma interaction. The progress reported was most pronounced in the fields of X-ray lasers, laser acceleration of particles by electrostatic double layers in plasmas, and a particle beam technique to solve the geometric problem of muon-catalyzed fusion. The development of laser-plasma interactions at medium to high laser intensities may be seen in its whole complexity from a brief review of prior conferences. At the first Workshop in 1969, a comprehensive review of the field was presented by the speakers with the opening address by N.

Book Synopsis Double Layers And Other Nonlinear Potential Structures In Plasmas - Proceedings Of The Fourth Symposium by : Roman Schrittwieser
Download or read book Double Layers And Other Nonlinear Potential Structures In Plasmas - Proceedings Of The Fourth Symposium written by Roman Schrittwieser and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-09-30 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth Symposium on Double Layers and Other Nonlinear Potential Structures in Plasmas was held in July 1992 in Austria. 86 scientists from all parts of the world attended. The 51 papers that were contributed, in addition to 14 invited lectures, have been compiled in this book. The main topics discussed during the Symposium include experiments, theory, simulation, space and others. The invited speakers concentrated on the various laboratory double layers, theoretical and numerical treatments of double layers and the existence of magnetospheric double layers. The last topic in particular inspired much lively and interesting debate among the participants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical and Applied Mechanics covers the proceedings of the 16th International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, held at the Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark on August 19-25, 1984. The contributors consider the significant advances in the thriving field of mechanics. This book is composed of 21 chapters, and begins with an overview of space research contributions in understanding fluid media mechanics. This topic is followed by discussions on some aspects and fundamentals of mechanics, such as chaos, computer application, resonant phenomena, adiabaticity, and nonlinear acoustics. The following chapters explore the various applications of theoretical and applied mechanics, including in marine structures, oil recovery, and ice and snow mechanics. This book also deals with nonlinear wave motion, hydrodynamic systems, ocean wave spectra, and Helmholtz concept. The remaining chapters look into the issues of steady water bifurcation, concept of anisotropic soils, and flow visualization. This book is of great value to physicists and research workers who wish to expand their knowledge in mechanics.
