Book Synopsis Practical Thermodynamic Tools for Heat Exchanger Design Engineers by : Henri Soumerai
Download or read book Practical Thermodynamic Tools for Heat Exchanger Design Engineers written by Henri Soumerai and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1987 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A useful, effective approach to the design of heat exchanger equipment as is used throughout the mechanical and chemical process industries is provided here. The reader is shown how to apply methods of solution that go beyond the present state-of- the-art for problems with combined heat transfer and fluid flow in a manner that is understandable and acceptable to the average engineer. Offering methods of solutions by covering single-phase flows in non-smooth channels, two-phase flow in condensers and evaporators - over and through tubes of any geometry, the book shows how to apply the methods to practical design. A concious effort is made to relate between the needs of the practising engineer and the work of experimental and mathematical researchers who sometimes fail to appreciate the needs of engineers in industry.

Book Synopsis Thermal Design of Heat Exchangers: A Numerical Approach by : Eric M. Smith
Download or read book Thermal Design of Heat Exchangers: A Numerical Approach written by Eric M. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is unique in adopting a numerical approach to the thermal design of heat exchangers. The computation of mean temperature difference, with accommodation of longitudinal conduction effects, makes full optimisation of the exchanger core possible. Sets of three partial differential equations for both contra-flow and cross-flow are established, and form the bases from which a range of methods of direct-sizing and stepwise rating may proceed. Optimisation of an exchanger for steady-state operation is achieved by an approach which allows maximum utilisation of the allowable pressure losses. Transient methods are covered, including the Method of Characteristics, and the Single-Blow method of testing is treated. Numerous aspects of low and high temperature design are discussed, and extensive references to the literature are provided. Schematic algorithms are listed to allow students and practitioners to construct their own solutions, and spline-fitting of data is discussed.
Book Synopsis Twentieth-Century Building Materials by : Thomas C. Jester
Download or read book Twentieth-Century Building Materials written by Thomas C. Jester and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the concluding decades of the twentieth century, the historic preservation community increasingly turned its attention to modern buildings, including bungalows from the 1930s, gas stations and diners from the 1940s, and office buildings and architectural homes from the 1950s. Conservation efforts, however, were often hampered by a lack of technical information about the products used in these structures, and to fill this gap Twentieth-Century Building Materials was developed by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service and first published in 1995. Now, this invaluable guide is being reissued—with a new preface by the book’s original editor. With more than 250 illustrations, including a full-color photographic essay, the volume remains an indispensable reference on the history and conservation of modern building materials. Thirty-seven essays written by leading experts offer insights into the history, manufacturing processes, and uses of a wide range of materials, including glass block, aluminum, plywood, linoleum, and gypsum board. Readers will also learn about how these materials perform over time and discover valuable conservation and repair techniques. Bibliographies and sources for further research complete the volume. The book is intended for a wide range of conservation professionals including architects, engineers, conservators, and material scientists engaged in the conservation of modern buildings, as well as scholars in related disciplines.
