In response, federal, state, and local governments have undertaken containment and mitigation efforts to "flatten the curve"--that is, to slow widespread transmission that could overwhelm the nation's health care system and to reduce spread of the disease while treatments and vaccines are being developed that will lessen the health impact of the virus. This book provides answers to numerous questions related to COVID-19 testing, including types of testing available and their reliability. It also discusses basic principles of contact tracing to stop COVID-19 transmission.

Book Synopsis SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) Pandemic Control and Prevention by : Larry Holmes (Jr.)
Download or read book SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) Pandemic Control and Prevention written by Larry Holmes (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 2023-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive text to provide not only a detailed explanation of how the SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) virus is spread within human populations, but also an epidemiological analysis and interpretation of viral pandemics to enable better measures for preventions and control. Providing an introduction to the physiology of both the human immune system and the SARS-CoV2 virus, specifically the virus's replicative potential and our own vulnerability, the book offers an in-depth understanding of how the pandemic evolved. It also highlights the aberrant epigenomic mechanistic process in pathogenic microbe's replication and survival, implying gene and environment interaction that affected different populations. Citing a range of environmental conditions, from structural and systemic racism to malnutrition and low-socioeconomic status, the book examines how these factors exacerbated existing health disparities, resulting in a disproportionate burden of morbidity and mortality on certain social groups. Also providing invaluable guidance on how future iterations of this pandemic may be better prevented and controlled, this will be a defining book for students, researchers and professionals within Public Health and Clinical Medicine to better understand the SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) virus, and how to protect the most vulnerable social groups.

Download or read book Point-of-Care Testing of COVID-19 written by Abilash Gangula and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the role of point-of-care (POC) testing in the effective management of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with an in-depth focus on the recent developments in the field, existing gaps, and future directions. POC tests are of utmost importance as they facilitate rapid and decentralized testing without much instrumentation and technical expertise. The book describes the current status of POC COVID-19 testing in three broad categories: Molecular, antigen, and antibody. The advantages, limitations, and adaption of each of the POC tests are reviewed while highlighting their clinical impact in real-world settings. The role of POC testing for COVID-19 screening, diagnosis, and surveillance has been emphasized. The subtle difference between POC and at-home tests is discussed while elaborating on the necessity for the latter for enhancing clinical impacts. A spotlight on the influence of variants on the performance of POC-COVID-19 tests is provided. The consideration of clinical implications of POC testing in hospitals with regards to improving therapeutic options, patient flow, enhancing the infection control measures, and early recruitment of patients into clinical trials is explained. Finally, the future perspectives that will aid the research community in the development of POC tests for COVID-19 or any infectious disease, in general, are presented. Overall, we believe this book can benefit the research community as it (i) presents a comprehensive understanding of current COVID-19 POC testing methods (ii) highlights features required to transform the current tests developed during the past year as POC diagnostics, and (iii) provides insights to address the unmet challenges in the field. .
