Our analysis uses data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.1 and 19.3 fb-1, respectively. The search is sensitive to Higgs bosons produced either through the gluon fusion process or in association with a bb quark pair. No statistically significant excess is observed in the [mu]+[mu]- mass spectrum. Results are interpreted in the framework of several benchmark scenarios, and the data are used to set an upper limit on the MSSM parameter tan [beta] as a function of the mass of the pseudoscalar A boson in the range from 115 to 300 GeV. Furthermore, the model independent upper limits are given for the product of the cross section and branching fraction for gluon fusion and b quark associated production at √s = 8 TeV. As a result, they are the most stringent limits obtained to date in this channel.

The data, corresponding to a recorded integrated luminosity of 1 fb−1, were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. In the absence of a signal a 95% C.L. limit is set on the production cross section times branching ratio, and the results are also interpreted in the MSSM.

The search for the heavy CP-odd Higgs boson, A, is conducted through the A -> Zh -> ll T[subscript]lep T[subscript]had decay channel using 20.3 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass of 8 TeV. The search for the neutral MSSM H/A decaying to a tau pair in the T[subscript]lep T[subscript]had b-veto final state is done using 3.2 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass of 13 TeV. The observed data agrees with the Standard Model background prediction, and upper limits are set on cross-section times branching ratio of neutral BSM Higgs bosons.

Upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction for gluon fusion and b-quark associated Higgs boson production are also given.

The search was performed with a sample of 1.8 fb−1 of proton-antiproton collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV provided by the Tevatron and collected by CDF Run II. No significant excess over the Standard Model prediction was found and a 95% confidence level exclusion limit have been set on the cross section times branching ratio as a function of the Higgs boson mass. This limit has been translated into the MSSM Higgs sector parameter plane, tan[beta] vs. M{sub A}, for the four different benchmark scenarios.

Book excerpt: This thesis describes a Standard Model (SM) cross section measurement of W+bb as well as a search for neutral Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) decaying to tau pairs. The measurement of W+bb was performed using proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in a data sample collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 1/fb. The W+bb events are selected in the W to muon + neutrino decay mode by requiring a muon with transverse momentum pT>25 GeV and pseudorapidity absolute eta less than 2.1, and exactly two b-tagged jets with pT>25 GeV and absolute eta less than 2.4. The measured W+bb production cross section in the fiducial region, calculated at the level of final-state particles, is 0.53± 0.05(stat.) ± 0.09 (syst.) ± 0.06 (theory) ± 0.01 (lum.) pb, in agreement with the SM prediction. This measurement is a sensitive test of heavy quark production calculated with perturbative QCD. It also serves as an important benchmark in new physics searches which include a single isolated lepton and one or more b jets in the final state, as W+bb becomes an irreducible background. Also presented is a search for the CP-even MSSM Higgs bosons, H and h, and the CP-odd MSSM pseudoscalar, A, in their decays to tau pairs. This search is performed using events recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011 and 2012 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and 8 TeV respectively. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 24.6 1/fb, with 4.9 1/fb at 7 TeV and 19.7 1/fb at 8 TeV. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a search for the Higgs boson, a new particle predicted by a theory called the minimal supersymmetric extension to the standard model (MSSM). The standard model of particle physics, the MSSM, and Higgs boson phenomenology are introduced briefly. The search presented in this thesis uses a single final state configuration, in which the Higgs boson decays to two tau leptons, with one tau decaying to a muon and neutrinos, and the other decaying to pions and a single neutrino. Two new methods are introduced in this analysis, the Tau Neural Classifier tau identification algorithm, and the Secondary Vertex fit tau pair mass reconstruction method. Both methods are discussed in detail. The analysis uses the 2010 dataset from the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment, which contains 36 pb−1 of integrated luminosity at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV. In total, 573 events are selected in the analysis. We fit the observed tau pair mass spectrum and measure the composition of the events. The result is compatible with the standard model expectation. No excess of signal events is observed, and we set an upper limit on the cross section times branching ratio of a Higgs boson. This limit is interpreted in the parameter space of the MSSM.
