Book excerpt: We study the processes e{sup +}e{sup -} {yields} (J/{psi}{gamma}{gamma}){gamma} and e{sup +}e{sup -} {yields} (J/{psi}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}){gamma} where the hard photon radiated from an initial e{sup +}e{sup -} collision with center-of-mass (CM) energy near 10.58 GeV is detected. In the final state J/{psi}{gamma}{gamma} we consider J/{psi}{pi}{sup 0}, J/{psi}{eta}, {chi}{sub c1}{gamma}, and {chi}c{sub 2}{gamma} candidates. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective e{sup +}e{sup -} CM energy in each event, so these data can be compared with direct e{sup +}e{sup -} measurements. We report 90% CL upper limits for the integrated cross section times branching fractions of the J/{psi}{gamma}{gamma} channels in the Y (4260) mass region.

Book excerpt: The authors present three analyses on charmonium production using 89 fb[sup -1] of e[sup +]e[sup -] collision data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring operating at the [Upsilon](4S) at SLAC. A precise measurement of the [eta][sub c] total width is obtained from a study of the invariant K[sub s][sup 0]K[sup [+-]][pi][sup [-+]] mass spectrum for a sample of [eta][sub c] mesons produced in two-photon interactions. The total width of the J/[psi] meson is measured using initial state radiation e[sup +]e[sup -] [yields] [mu][sup +][mu][sup -][gamma] events. Finally branching fraction measurements for the exclusive B meson decays B[sup 0] [yields] J/[psi] p[bar p] and B[sup +] [yields] J/[psi] p[bar [Lambda]] are presented.

They study the suitability of the ratio [Lambda](J/[psi] 2!ee−)/[Lambda]([eta]{sub c} 2![gamma][gamma]), in which the non-perturbative or soft effects cancel at [Omicron]([alpha]{sub s}{sup 0,1}), for extracting fundamental parameters of QCD at low energies. They show that the QCD-based theory of charmonia is not capable of predicting this ratio with any degree of confidence.

Book excerpt: Recently, several charmonium-like states above D{bar D} threshold have been discovered at the BELLE and BABAR B-factories. Some of these states are produced via Initial State Radiation (e.g. Y (4260) and Y (4350)) and some are observed in B meson decays (e.g. X(3872), Y (3940)). The BELLE observation of the enhancement in the [psi](2S)[pi]−, i.e. the Z(4430)− state, has generated a great deal of interest, because such a state must have minimum quark content (c{bar c}d{bar u}), so that it would represent the unequivocal manifestation of a four-quark meson state. Here we report recent BABAR results on the Y (4260), X(3872), Y(3940), and a search for the Z(4430)−.
