Book excerpt: Winning at competitive games requires a results-oriented mindset that many players are simply not willing to adopt. This book walks players through the entire process: how to choose a game and learn basic proficiency, how to break through the mental barriers that hold most players back, and how to handle the issues that top players face. It also includes a complete analysis of Sun Tzu's book The Art of War and its applications to games of today. These foundational concepts apply to virtually all competitive games, and even have some application to "real life." Trade paperback. 142 pages.

Book Synopsis The Florida Scrub Jay (MPB-20), Volume 20 by : Glen Everett Woolfenden
Download or read book The Florida Scrub Jay (MPB-20), Volume 20 written by Glen Everett Woolfenden and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Florida Scrub Jays are an excellent example of a cooperative-breeding species, in which adult birds often help raise offspring not their own. For more than a decade Glen E. Woolfenden and John W. Fitzpatrick studied a marked population of these birds in an attempt to establish a demographic base for understanding the phenomenon of "helping at the nest." By studying both population biology and behavior, the authors found that habitat restraints, rather than kin selection, are the main source of the behavior of Florida Scrub Jays: the goal of increasing the number of close relatives other than descendants in future generations is of relatively minor importance in their cooperative-breeding behavior. The Florida Scrub Jay lives only in the Florida oak scrub. All acceptable habitat is constantly filled with breeders. Each year about half of the pairs are assisted by one to several nonbreeding helpers. This book provides extensive data on fecundity, survivorship, relatedness, and dispersal to establish the demographic milieu and to address questions arising out of observed helping behavior--whom, how, when, and why the helpers help.

Updated sections will delve into subjects of endothelial transplantation, as well as cataract surgery and new medical and technological developments: femtosecond lasers, innovations in premium lens implant technologies, optiwave refractive analysis, and combined glaucoma and cataract surgery. Additional extensive chapter updates in the surgical tray, self-assessment, and corneal transplantation will be described in great detail as well. Directed at the growing number of untutored personnel aspiring to enter the disciplines of ophthalmic technicianry and surgical assisting, The Scrub's Bible, 2nd edition remains a key entry level guide to understanding the human eye, its basic anatomy, and physiology. Absorbing this information serves as the foundation for the authors, who are all skilled and respected eye surgeons, educators, and surgery center owners, to draw the reader through the fundamentals of the two most common areas of ophthalmic surgery: cataract and corneal/refractive surgery. The Scrub's Bible 2nd edition will build upon the first edition--remaining an easy-to-read tool that is broken down into discreet and understandable elements, meant to avoid the intimidating rhetoric of a standard reference.
Book Synopsis Dry Scrubbing Technologies for Flue Gas Desulfurization by : Barbara Toole-O'Neil
Download or read book Dry Scrubbing Technologies for Flue Gas Desulfurization written by Barbara Toole-O'Neil and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 895 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dry sulfurization processes offer the significant advantages of low capital and low operating costs when compared to wet desulfurization. They hold great potential for the economical reduction of sulfur emissions from power utilities that use high-sulfur coal. Dry Scrubbing Technologies for Flue Gas Desulfurization represents a body of research that was sponsored by the State of Ohio's Coal Development Office for the development of technologies that use coal in an economic, environmentally-sound manner. One of the project's major goals was the development of dry, calcium-based sorption processes for removing sulfur dioxide from the combustion gases produced by high-sulfur coal. Dry Scrubbing Technologies for Flue Gas Desulfurization highlights a number of fundamental research findings that have had a significant and lasting impact in terms of scientific understanding. For example, the experimental investigation of the upper-furnace sulfur capture obtained time-resolved kinetic data in less than 100 millisecond time-scales for the first time ever, thereby revealing the true nature of the ultra-fast and overlapping phenomena. This was accomplished through the development of a unique entrained flow reactor system. The authors also identify a number of important areas for future research, including reaction mechanisms, sorbent material, transport effects, modeling, and process development. Dry Scrubbing Technologies for Flue Gas Desulfurization will appeal to both chemical and environmental engineers who examine different ways touse coal in a more environmentally benign manner. It will make an essential reference for air pollution control researchers from coal, lime, cement, and utility industries; for government policy-makers and environmental regulatory agencies; and for those who teach graduate courses in environmental issues, pollution control technologies, and environmental policy.
