Obwohl es heutzutage nicht mehr ungewöhnlich ist, sich von seinem Lebenspartner scheiden zu lassen, löst eine solche Trennung immer noch eine hohe emotionale Betroffenheit aus, insbesondere dann, wenn Kinder mit im Spiel sind. Diese werden dann auch immer die Last einer Entwicklung tragen, an der sie am wenigsten Schuld haben. Für eine gesunde Entwicklung braucht das Kind eine funktionierende Familie, die ihm Liebe, Wärme und ein soziales Umfeld der Geborgenheit schenkt. Mit der Scheidung der Eltern zerbricht diese Struktur und das Kind verliert Ordnung und Halt in seiner Welt.Genau aus diesem Grunde ist Scheidung auch ein vieldiskutiertes und bleibend aktuelles Thema. Die Entwicklung der Scheidungszahlen steigt nach wie vor in die Höhe und somit natürlich auch die Zahl betroffener Kinder. Diese werden meist unfreiwillig, völlig unvorbereitet mit der Scheidung konfrontiert und in den elterlichen Konflikt mit einbezogen. Aufgrund ihres Entwicklungsstandes besitzen sie nur bedingt kognitive Verarbeitungsmöglichkeiten und sehen die veränderte Lebenslage aus ihrem kindeseigenen Blickwinkel, welcher sich naturgemäß von dem der Erwachsenen deutlich unterscheidet. Die Frage, wie Kinder mit solch einem einschneidenten Ereignis umgehen und welche Folgen sich daraus für sie ergeben, hat in den letzten Jahren immer mehr an Bedeutung und weiter an Aktualität gewonnen. Wie erleben Kinder eine Scheidung? Welche Faktoren haben Einfluss auf die Verarbeitung und den Umgang mit der elterlichen Trennung? Reagieren Jungen etwa anders als Mädchen? Welche Handlungsmöglichkeiten hat hier die Pädagogik und wo kann sie wie ansetzten? . Um eine Antwort auf diese Fragen zu finden, muss man zunächst einmal die Komplexität dieses Trennung- und Scheidungsprozesses erkennen. Ich habe in meiner Arbeit versucht, einen kleinen Einblick in dieses vielschichtige Thema zu geben und dabei die wichtigsten Aspekte herauszuarbeiten. Mein besonderes Augenmerk lege ich hierbei, wie der Titel meiner Arbeit schon auch aussagt, auf die pädagogische Praxis und die Frage, wie wir als Pädagogen den betroffenen Kindern Hilfe und Unterstützung in dieser für sie außergewöhnlich schwierigen Situation geben können.

Book excerpt: Parental alienation is an important phenomenon that mental health professionals should know about and thoroughly understand, especially those who work with children, adolescents, divorced adults, and adults whose parents divorced when they were children. In this book, the authors define parental alienation as a mental condition in which a child - usually one whose parents are engaged in a high- conflict divorce - allies himself or herself strongly with one parent (the preferred parent) and rejects a relationship with the other parent (the alienated parent) without legitimate justification. This process leads to a tragic outcome when the child and the alienated parent, who previously had a loving and mutually satisfying relationship, lose the nurture and joy of that relationship for many years and perhaps for their lifetimes. We estimate that 1 percent of children and adolescents in the U.S. experience parental alienation. When the phenomenon is properly recognized, this condition is preventable and treatable in many instances. The authors of this book believe that parental alienation is not simply a minor aberration in the life of a family, but a serious mental condition. Because of the false belief that the alienated parent is a dangerous or unworthy person, the child loses one of the most important relationships in his or her life. This book contains much information about the validity, reliability, and prevalence of parental alienation. It also includes a comprehensive international bibliography regarding parental alienation with more than 600 citations. In order to bring life to the definitions and the technical writing, several short clinical vignettes have been included. These vignettes are based on actual families and real events, but have been modified to protect the privacy of both the parents and children.

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?

Or has the concept of motherhood become obsolete and should we just talk of parenthood in a gender neutral way? Questions such as these would have appeared esoteric only a few decades ago, but as a result of new social developments (such as frequent family reconstitutions, gay and lesbian emancipation or surrogacy) and of technological innovations (such as egg and embryo donations) they have become issues in a vehement debate. The interdisciplinary contributions to this book focus on the legal definition of motherhood, on the way in which legal conceptions structure the social discourse on motherhood (and vice versa), and on the influence of legal rules on power relations between mothers, fathers, children and the state.
