Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the development of new approaches which lead to exact (but not explicit) solutions of key canonical problems like diffraction by an impedance wedge or cone. Includes calculations of the diffraction or excitation coefficients, including their uniform versions, for the diffracted waves from the edge of the wedge or from the vertex of the cone. Study of the farfield behaviour in diffraction by impedance wedges or cones, reflected waves, space waves from the singular points of the boundary (from edges or tips) and surface waves. Applicability of the reported solution procedures and formulae to existing software packages designed for solving realworld highfrequency problems encountered in antenna, wave propagation and radar cross section.
Book Synopsis Scattering and Diffraction by Wedges 2 by : Vito G. Daniele
Download or read book Scattering and Diffraction by Wedges 2 written by Vito G. Daniele and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book has a dual purpose. The first is to expose a general methodology to solve problems of electromagnetism in geometries constituted of angular regions. The second is to bring the solutions of some canonical problems of fundamental importance in modern electromagnetic engineering with the use of the Wiener-Hopf technique. In particular, the general mathematical methodology is very ingenious and original. It is based on sophisticated and attractive procedures exploiting simple and advanced properties of analytical functions. Once the reader has acquired the methodology, she/he can easily obtain the solution of the canonical problems reported in the book. The book can be appealing also to readers who are not directly interested in the detailed mathematical methodology and/ or in electromagnetics. In fact the same methodology can be extended to acoustics and elasticity problems. Moreover, the proposed practical problems with their solutions constitute a list of reference solutions and can be of interests in engineering production in the field of radio propagations, electromagnetic compatibility and radar technologies.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of the Physical Theory of Diffraction by : Pyotr Ya. Ufimtsev
Download or read book Fundamentals of the Physical Theory of Diffraction written by Pyotr Ya. Ufimtsev and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a complete, comprehensive description of the modern Physical Theory of Diffraction (PTD) based upon the concept of elementary edge waves. The theory is demonstrated with examples of the diffraction of acoustic and electromagnetic waves at perfectly reflecting objects. Readers develop the skills to apply PTD to solve various scattering problems. The derived analytic expressions clearly illustrate the physical structure of the scattered field. They additionally describe all of the reflected and diffracted rays and beams, as well as the fields in the vicinity of caustics and foci. Shadow radiation, a fundamental component of PTD, is introduced and proven to contain half the total scattered power. The equivalence relationships between acoustic and electromagnetic diffracted waves are established and emphasized. Throughout the book, the author enables readers to master both the theory and its practical applications. Plotted numeric results supplement the theory and facilitate the visualization of individual contributions of distinct parts of the scattering objects to the total diffracted field Detailed comments help readers understand and implement all the critical steps of the analytic and numeric calculations Problem sets in each chapter give readers an opportunity to analyse and investigate the diffraction phenomena
Book Synopsis The Method of the Generalised Eikonal by : Michael V. Vesnik
Download or read book The Method of the Generalised Eikonal written by Michael V. Vesnik and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffraction theory describes scattering mechanisms for waves of various physical nature, scattered by objects of different shapes and materials. This book proposes new methods to account for the contour shape, edge profile and boundary conditions of three-dimensional scatterers (in particularly, flat polygons and polyhedrals). A standard method to refine the physical optics approximation (PO) is the heuristic method of edge waves (MEW). In comparison with MEW, the presented approaches simplify the solving and refining the PO approximation without solving a corresponding two-dimensional problem. Furthermore these methods allow to take into account the field perturbation in the vicinity of vertices. While the analytical formulas obtained by using these new approaches are as simple as in the PO case, the accuracy can be even higher than for MEW. On the basis of the developed methods construction of solutions for wave propagation in urban area and elastic wave diffraction (including seismic waves) are proposed. The book is useful for specialists who solve scientific and engineering problems in wave propagation and for students and postgraduate students.

Book Synopsis Advanced Theory of Diffraction by a Semi-infinite Impedance Cone by : J.M.L Bernard
Download or read book Advanced Theory of Diffraction by a Semi-infinite Impedance Cone written by J.M.L Bernard and published by ALPHA SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical problem concerning the diffraction by a semi-infinite cone with circular cross section for the Helmholtz equation, which has well-known solutions for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, is here considered for the more general boundary condition of constant impedance type. As previously stated by D.S. Jones, the problem then changes in complexity, beginning with the difficulty of obtaining the uniqueness of the solution. An exact analytical method is developed to reduce this problem to the determination of the solution of a well-posed non-oscillatory integral equation, of which the solution can be directly used to express the field in an integral form. Some generalization, in particular to the electromagnetic case, are also given.

Book Synopsis Reduction of Backscattering from the Infinite Cone and the Sphere by Impedance Loading by : Carl Kenneth Dudley
Download or read book Reduction of Backscattering from the Infinite Cone and the Sphere by Impedance Loading written by Carl Kenneth Dudley and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theoretical study on the reduction of the backscattering of the infinite cone and the sphere by the impedance loading method is presented. An inifinite cone is assumed to be illuminated by a plane wave at the nose-on incidence. The backscattering of the cone is minimized by loading the cone surface with (1) a circumferential slot backed by an impedance, (2) a radial slot backed by an impedance and (3) a patch impedance. The sphere is given a similar treatment with the impedance area being in the shape of the wedge and the patch. For both the infinite cone and the sphere, it is shown that the optimum impedance for each case can be found to make the backscattering vanish. (Author).
