Book Synopsis The Nordic Languages by : Oskar Bandle
Download or read book The Nordic Languages written by Oskar Bandle and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2002 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The handbook is not tied to a particular methodology but keeps in principle to a pronounced methodological pluralism, encompassing all aspects of actual methodology. Moreover it combines diachronic with synchronic-systematic aspects, longitudinal sections with cross-sections (periods such as Old Norse, transition from Old Norse to Early Modern Nordic, Early Modern Nordic 1550-1800 and so on). The description of Nordic language history is built upon a comprehensive collection of linguistic data; it consists of more than 200 articles written by a multitude of authors from Scandinavian and German and English speaking countries. The organization of the book combines a central part on the detailed chronological developments and some chapters of a more general character: chapters on theory and methodology in the beginning and on overlapping spatio-temporal topics in the end.
Book Synopsis The Swedish Arbitration Act of 1999 Five Years on by : Lars Heuman
Download or read book The Swedish Arbitration Act of 1999 Five Years on written by Lars Heuman and published by Juris Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2006-04-01 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2004, Sweden's Arbitration Act of 1999 was five years old. Inspired by UNCITRAL's Model Law while perpetuating features of the 1929 Act, it introduced many new concepts, such as establishing rules to determine the law applicable to the agreement to arbitrate, authorizing the arbitrators to decide the existence of facts and to fill gaps in contracts, making competition law issues arbitrable, affording the respondent the right to have the dispute resolved if the claimant withdraws its claim, authorizing truncated tribunals where an arbitrator obstructs the work of the tribunal. The new Act further gives arbitrators power to decide interim measures of protection and accepts that foreign parties waive in advance the possibility to set aside the arbitral award. In order to learn about the experience of Swedish and foreign practitioners, arbitrators and judges during the five years since the Act was adopted, the Stockholm Arbitration Report and the Institute of Arbitration Law at the University of Stockholm, organized a symposium on 7 and 8 October 2004. The symposium, was arranged in co-operation with the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the CCI of the Russian Federation, JAMS, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Revue de l’arbitrage, the Swedish Bar Association and UNCITRAL. This book contains the papers presented to the six working sessions and the full discussions that took place.

Book Synopsis Tove Jansson Life, Art, Words by : Boel Westin
Download or read book Tove Jansson Life, Art, Words written by Boel Westin and published by Sort of Books. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Finnish-Swedish writer and artist Tove Jansson achieved worldwide fame as the creator of the Moomin stories, written between 1945 and 1970 and still in print in more than twenty languages. However, the Moomins were only a part of her prodigious output. Already admired in Nordic art circles as a painter, cartoonist and illustrator, she would go on to write a series of classic novels and short stories. She remains Scandinavia's best loved author. Tove Jansson's work reflected the tenets of her life: her love of family (and special bond with her mother), of nature, and her insistence on freedom to pursue her art. Love and work was the motto she chose for herself and her approach to both was joyful and uncompromising. If her relationships with men foundered on her ambivalence towards marriage, those with women came as a revelation, especially the love and companionship she found with her long-time partner, the artist Tuulikki Pietilä, with whom she lived on the solitary island of Klovharu. In this meticulously researched, authorised biography, Boel Westin draws together the many threads of Jansson's life: from the studies interrupted to help her family; the dark shades of war and her emergence as an artist with a studio of her own; to the years of Moomin-mania, and later novel writing. Based on numerous conversations with Tove, and unprecedented access to her journals, letters and personal archives, Tove Jansson: Life, Art, Words offers a rare and privileged insight into the world of a writer whom Philip Pullman described, simply, as 'a genius'.
