Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An up-to-date, rigorous, and lucid treatment of the theory, methods, and applications of regression analysis, and thus ideally suited for those interested in the theory as well as those whose interests lie primarily with applications. It is further enhanced through real-life examples drawn from many disciplines, showing the difficulties typically encountered in the practice of regression analysis. Consequently, this book provides a sound foundation in the theory of this important subject.
Book Synopsis Regression Analysis by : Ashish K. Sen
Download or read book Regression Analysis written by Ashish K. Sen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any method of fitting equations to data may be called regression. Such equations are valuable for at least two purposes: making predictions and judging the strength of relationships. Because they provide a way of em pirically identifying how a variable is affected by other variables, regression methods have become essential in a wide range of fields, including the soeial seiences, engineering, medical research and business. Of the various methods of performing regression, least squares is the most widely used. In fact, linear least squares regression is by far the most widely used of any statistical technique. Although nonlinear least squares is covered in an appendix, this book is mainly ab out linear least squares applied to fit a single equation (as opposed to a system of equations). The writing of this book started in 1982. Since then, various drafts have been used at the University of Toronto for teaching a semester-Iong course to juniors, seniors and graduate students in a number of fields, including statistics, pharmacology, pharmacology, engineering, economics, forestry and the behav ioral seiences. Parts of the book have also been used in a quarter-Iong course given to Master's and Ph.D. students in public administration, urban plan ning and engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). This experience and the comments and critieisms from students helped forge the final version.

Book Synopsis Time Series Techniques for Economists by : Terence C. Mills
Download or read book Time Series Techniques for Economists written by Terence C. Mills and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of time series techniques in economics has become increasingly important, both for forecasting purposes and in the empirical analysis of time series in general. In this book, Terence Mills not only brings together recent research at the frontiers of the subject, but also analyses the areas of most importance to applied economics. It is an up-to-date text which extends the basic techniques of analysis to cover the development of methods that can be used to analyse a wide range of economic problems. The book analyses three basic areas of time series analysis: univariate models, multivariate models, and non-linear models. In each case the basic theory is outlined and then extended to cover recent developments. Particular emphasis is placed on applications of the theory to important areas of applied economics and on the computer software and programs needed to implement the techniques. This book clearly distinguishes itself from its competitors by emphasising the techniques of time series modelling rather than technical aspects such as estimation, and by the breadth of the models considered. It features many detailed real-world examples using a wide range of actual time series. It will be useful to econometricians and specialists in forecasting and finance and accessible to most practitioners in economics and the allied professions.

Book Synopsis Statistical Programming with SAS/IML Software by : Rick Wicklin
Download or read book Statistical Programming with SAS/IML Software written by Rick Wicklin and published by SAS Institute. This book was released on 2010-10-22 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SAS/IML software is a powerful tool for data analysts because it enables implementation of statistical algorithms that are not available in any SAS procedure. Rick Wicklin's Statistical Programming with SAS/IML Software is the first book to provide a comprehensive description of the software and how to use it. He presents tips and techniques that enable you to use the IML procedure and the SAS/IML Studio application efficiently. In addition to providing a comprehensive introduction to the software, the book also shows how to create and modify statistical graphs, call SAS procedures and R functions from a SAS/IML program, and implement such modern statistical techniques as simulations and bootstrap methods in the SAS/IML language. Written for data analysts working in all industries, graduate students, and consultants, Statistical Programming with SAS/IML Software includes numerous code snippets and more than 100 graphs. This book is part of the SAS Press program.

Book Synopsis Genes, Culture, and Personality by : Bozzano G Luisa
Download or read book Genes, Culture, and Personality written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-04-25 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diversity of human behavior is one of the most fascinating aspects of human biology. What makes our individual attitudes, lifestyle and personalities different has been the subject of many physiological and psychological theories. In this book the emphasis is on understanding the genetic and environmental causes of these differences. Genes, Culture, and Personality is an expansive account of the state of current knowledge about the causes of individual differences in personality and social attitudes. Based on almost two decades of empirical research, the authors have made a significant contribution to the debate on genetic and cultural inheritance in human behavior. The book should be required reading for psychologists, psychiatrists, sociobiologists, and geneticists.
Book Synopsis Methodology for Genetic Studies of Twins and Families by : M. Neale
Download or read book Methodology for Genetic Studies of Twins and Families written by M. Neale and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few would dispute the truth of the statement `People are Different', but there is much controversy over why. This book authoritatively explains the methods used to understand human variation, and extends them far beyond the primary `nature or nurture' question. After chapters on basic statistics, biometrical genetics, matrix algebra and path analysis, there is a state-of-the-art account of how to fit genetic models using the LISREL package. The authors explain not only the assumptions of the twin method, but how to test them. The elementary model is expanded to cover sex limitation, sibling interaction, multivariate and longitudinal data, observer ratings, and twin-family studies. Throughout, the methods are illustrated by applications to diverse areas such as obesity, major depression, alcohol comsumption, delinquency, allergies, and common fears.
