Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was selected as an external expert examiner for his dissertation. I have read the book from start to finish for fifteen days. I took extra time to read it …. it pulled me; it pulled me to adhy?tma. Such a good book. I read it with much eagerness and enjoyed it very much. Even I was unable to write a book like this. It took me back to all that I had studied in my youth. I understood the G?t? again as I had understood it as a student. … … Listening to him, I remembered my Guru parampar?, my Vyasa parampar?, my own student days. … It was such an adbhut viva, great experience, unforgettable and ever memorable. .. I did PhD and have worked as a Head of Department in SVYASA in 2012 and have worked as Vice Chancellor of SVYASA. We must try and reach the level I have seen and experienced in this case. There have been PhD’s, but none like this. .. I returned from my journey and am back home but I still remember that Vyasa parampar?. This is the way. This is the quality we have to maintain. (Extracted from an audio message to his disciple after the presentation of this dissertation where he was Chief Examiner) ***** Prof. Ramachandra G. Bhatt, Former Vice Chancellor, S.Vyasa University, Bangalore, Chairman, Veda Vijnana Shodha Samsthana, Bangalore, and Convener, Karnataka Gurukula Education.

Book excerpt: Bhagavad-Gita is the most beautiful, perhaps the only true philosophical song existing in any known tongue’ – so opined William von Humboldt. Though it is a matter of consensus that Bhagvad-Gita in the present length of seven hundred verses has many an interpolation to it, but no meaningful attempt has ever been made to delve into the nature and extent, not to speak of the effect of these on the Hindu society at large. The moot point that has missed the attention of all, all along, is that if the Sudras were to be so lowly in the Lord’s creation, how come then the Gita’s architect Krishna, His avatar, and Vyāsa, its chronicler, happen to be from the same lowly Hindu caste fold. Moreover, is it not absurd to suggest that either or both of them had deprecated the station of their own varna (caste) on their own in their very own Gita? The methodical codification of interpolations carried out here, for the first time ever, puts the true character of Gita in proper perspective. Identified here are hundred and ten slokas of deviant nature and or of partisan character, the source of so much misunderstanding about this book extraordinary, in certain sections of the Hindu fold. Thus, in the long run, exposing and expunging these mischievous insertions is bound to bring in new readers from these quarters to this over two millennia old classic besides altering the misconceptions of the existing adherents. In this modern rendition, the beauty of the Sanskrit slokas is reflected in the rhythmic flow of the English verses of poetic proportions even as the attendant philosophy of the song that is the Gita is captured in contemporary idiom for easy comprehension.

Book Synopsis Philosophy of the Gita by : Ramesh N. Patel
Download or read book Philosophy of the Gita written by Ramesh N. Patel and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1991 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This strikingly fresh study of the Bhagavad-gita approaches the Sanskrit classic as a coherent philosophical text. It argues that the well-worn approaches regarding the Gita as religious scripture or literary work are methodologically inadequate and excessively speculative. The book presents and applies a new hermeneutic called archaic coherentism, uncovering a rich synoptic conceptual structure which affords novel insights into the philosophy of action and metaphysical theory. A new translation aiming at conceptual accuracy follows the essays, which deal with war and morality, identity and action, and the humanity of Hinduism. Careful exegesis brings to light textual subtleties that enhance the value of the Gita's philosophy for application to contemporary issues.

Book Synopsis 19th Century Maharashtra by : Shraddha Kumbhojkar
Download or read book 19th Century Maharashtra written by Shraddha Kumbhojkar and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-27 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maharashtra in the nineteenth century exhibits all the characteristics of a society standing at the crossroads of civilization. Western education, press, industrialisation and material changes in production and consumption patterns resulted in fundamental changes in the thinking of the people. The first half of the nineteenth century witnessed the beginning of the Postal Service in 1837, rise and spread of the native press and rudimentary education. The second half witnessed more dramatic events such as the coming of the Railways and the establishment of the of Indian National Congress that changed the destiny of the subcontinent forever. The book takes a fresh look at the various aspects of nineteenth century Maharashtra. It includes the critiques and reviews of literature, language, history writing and women’s reforms in this period. It argues that the elite attempts at social reform had their own inherent limitations. They could not reach the level of radicality reached by the subalterns whose lived experience of discrimination was the biggest stimulus for reform. Mahatma Phule stands out from among a range of thinkers in this period for his innovative understanding of the Indian reality. Phule was one of the rare thinkers who reconciled the Indian reality with its Universal counterpart.
