Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sam lives on a pioneer homestead in rural Manitoba with his parents, Charlie the dog, and Katie the horse. While his parents are distracted caring for the land and animals, Sam becomes a free-roaming kid. There are dangers on the farm: the rushing river, farm equipment, and plenty of places to get lost. But Sam’s friends Charlie the dog and Katie the horse look out for him, saving him from disaster more often than not. As Sam ages, his responsibilities and independence increase too. Soon, he is travelling the long distance to his one-room school and fetching goods for the family in town all by himself. When a blinding blizzard swallows him up on the road home from school, Katie cannot see because of the snow sticking to her face but Charlie come to meet them and guides them home. Sam Grows Up on a Homestead shows us what it was like for a pioneer family in the prairies—the lifestyle, the hardships, and the simplicity. With no running water, electricity, radios, or phones and children who sacrifice their schooling to labour on the family homesteads, Sam’s world reminds us how much has changed in the last hundred years, and how generations evolve.

Book excerpt: Jake, Sam, and the Snowman is a book about two young boys who were complete strangers, two strangers that came together and put a smile on the whole town's faces. They had no idea that they would bring so much joy to others by just making a snowman. Sam was new to the neighborhood, having left all his friends behind. Sam had no one to play with where he had just moved to. He was a very nice kid that stayed to himself and played all alone. Until one day Jake came outside and properly introduced himself to Sam. Immediately, they became friends. Jake started playing with Sam in the snow when the idea of building a snowman came about. The two of them began to work on their snowman, both wanting it to be the biggest one of all time. The two stayed outside for hours in the cold as people were walking by giving them compliments. They entered their snowman into the town's contest they have every year, not realizing that they would win and how big of deal it was to people. The boys entered it just for the fun of it. People that they didn't know were so excited and happy for them. It made the boys more excited because they were noticed for the good that they have done by lots of people. Receiving the town's award added more excitement for the boys. They were so proud of themselves for what they had accomplished. Two total strangers coming together making a difference. If more people were that friendly, we would all be able to do amazing things together.

Book Synopsis Drowning in a Mother's Womb by : Ciara L. Anderson
Download or read book Drowning in a Mother's Womb written by Ciara L. Anderson and published by Ciara Anderson. This book was released on 2009-01-15 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drowning in a Mother's Womb approaches the story of a tumultuous childhood of a young girl in her own words, emotions and feelings. As she relives the horrific incidents of violent abuse, you will empathize with her every struggle and hang on her every word spoken in the language and culture of her experience. The most vital messages from her story are that regardless of the circumstances and situations that this young girl faced, having lived a most colorful life by the age of 13, she found herself drowning in her own resentment for a mother who never felt any remorse for her negligent parenting. Therefore, the girl continued to press toward her future, grasping at any and every place for help. When she least expected it, her broken spirit gave way to what felt like the walls of her mind closing in on her, and she found herself in the psychiatric ward of a local hospital. Ciara allows the reader to identify with a child's need to be nurtured and supported even when the nurturer remains absent and unsupportive.
