Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mission is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate.' John Piper's contemporary classic draws on key biblical texts to demonstrate that worship is the ultimate goal of the church and that proper worship fuels missionary outreach. Piper offers a biblical defence of God's supremacy in all things, providing a sound theological foundation for missions. He examines whether Jesus is the only way to salvation and issues a passionate plea for God-centredness in the missionary enterprise, seeking to define the scope of the task and the means for reaching 'all nations'. Let the Nations Be Glad! is a trusted resource for missionaries, pastors, church leaders, youth workers, seminary students, and all who want to connect their labours to God's global purposes. This third edition has been revised and expanded throughout and includes new material on the 'prosperity gospel'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gospel of Luke presents an ecological symphony that reveals a Jesus connected to Earth. His ministry touches all aspects of creation, human and non-human, and invites disciples into an ecological asceticism. This same spirit continues in the Acts of the Apostles. In this Earth Bible Commentary on Acts, Michael Trainor allows our environmental concerns to shape his interpretative approach, and thus ecological nuances emerge. Luke's household of disciples, imbued with the spirit of the risen Jesus, to embrace the world and bring to it a word of reconciliation, embark on this mission. This formally begins at Pentecost with their reception of God's creative and renewing Spirit that empowers them as Earth's children. From this moment an explosion of activity moves them over Earth's lands, beginning in Jerusalem, Earth's navel (Acts 1.1-8.1), into Samaria, the space in-between that navel and Galilee, the garden of God's earthly delights (Acts 8.2-11.17), to the ends of Earth, Rome (Acts 11.18-28.33). As we trace Luke's vast geographical journey around the Mediterranean, key moments highlight fresh environmental insights that offer new hope for contemporary disciples seeking ecological affirmation at this particular time in world history.

I have the utmost respect for the gift of free choice from the loving Father God. This is the third of five-volume series on "The Messianic Credentials". It is not about what the right choice should be. It would be ludicrously futile to debate over such a thing as it is a matter of perception. In the process of putting this series together, I realized that God (Elohim) did not write what we like to hear. He wrote what we need to hear. This is because love corrects (Proverbs 3:12 and Hebrews 12:6). And God is love (1 John 4:8 and 1 John 4:16). He wrote the Bible out of His Spirit of love. In view of the above, I have written this series to relay that same Spirit. It is an appeal to consider reunion with God the loving Father from the perspective of the salvation wrought through Christ crucified. The love of God will bring about a change in perspective. In the words of Romans 2:4, it is the kindness of God that leads to repentance. As a caveat, this series is to be read with an open mind. It is meant to present the state of things from a Biblical perspective with no malicious and derogative intent. Any perception to the contrary is highly unfortunate and/or regrettable. Volume 3 – Salvation Reaches the End of the Earth Jesus of Nazareth was born to die the death of the Cross. Even before birth, He was despised and hated but yet held in awe. You will find the scriptural basis when you explore the trailhead of Isaiah 49:7 in the third volume of this series. When the appointed time for the fulfilment of the redemption plan arrived, the beloved Son of God as Jesus of Nazareth allowed Himself to be crucified as the perfect sacrificial Lamb. He was not murdered and neither was He suicidal. Read all about it in Volume 3. It speaks volumes about Him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few biblical topics are as important as mission. Mission is linked inextricably to humanity's sinfulness and need for redemption, and to God's provision of salvation in the person and work of Jesus Christ. This "good news" of salvation must be made known! The saving mission of Jesus constitutes the foundation for Christian mission, and the Christian gospel is its message. According to Andreas Köstenberger and Peter O'Brien, this significant theme has rarely been given its due attention in biblical theology. Motivated by their passion to see God's mission carried out in today's world, they offer a comprehensive study of the theme of mission. In Salvation to the Ends of the Earth they explore the entire sweep of biblical history, including the Old Testament, the second-temple period, each New Testament Gospel, Paul and his writings, and the General Epistles and Revelation. Among other questions, Köstenberger and O'Brien examine whether or not Old Testament Israel was called to mission, whether second-temple Judaism should be characterized as a missionary religion, whether Jesus limited his earthly mission to Israel or also embarked on a Gentile mission, and whether or not there is continuity between the missions of Israel and the missions of Jesus and the early church. They write, "It is our sincere hope that our Christian mission, which is first of all God's, will be founded on a biblical theology that takes its cue from the scriptural revelation as a whole." To that end, they offer this New Studies in Biblical Theology volume as a service to the worldwide church. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Book excerpt: "The church's mission does not begin with the Great Commission, but is integrally related to the grand storyline of Scripture." Did the Old Testament simply point to the coming of Christ and his saving work, or is there more to the story? After his resurrection, the Lord Jesus revealed how his suffering, glory, and mission plan for the nations are in fact central to the biblical story of redemption. After Emmaus shows how Christology and missiology are integrally connected throughout Scripture, especially in the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. Brian Tabb explains what Luke 24:46–47 reveals about God's messianic promises in the Old Testament, their fulfillment in the New Testament, and the purpose of the church. By understanding Jesus's last words to his disciples, Christians today will be motivated to participate in the Messiah's mission.

Book excerpt: A Study of How Genesis 3 Influences the Whole Story of the Bible When looking around at the world, it is easy to see that all is not as it should be. This brokenness within the world and humanity finds its roots in mankind's rebellion against God. The fall, as recorded in Genesis 3, sets the stage for creation's need for redemption—ultimately found in Jesus Christ. In this book, pastor and professor Mitchell Chase argues that in order to understand the fall and recognize its profound impact on later Scripture and the world today, Christians must first understand Genesis 3. Chase identifies themes found in Genesis 3—temptation, shame, messianic hope, and more—and shows how they reverberate throughout the rest of the storyline of Scripture. Understanding Adam and Eve's fall is crucial to understanding the world as it currently is and the need for redemption through Jesus. Accessible: Clear and concise writing on one of the most vital chapters in Scripture For Those Interested in Biblical Theology: Ideal for students, thoughtful lay people, and pastors looking to grow in their knowledge of inner-biblical exegesis and connections Identifies Biblical Themes in Genesis 3: Including temptation, shame, and messianic hope Written by Mitchell L. Book excerpt: "Precisely Literal, Richly Revealing" Pairing the most literal English translation available with an illuminating in-text exposition of each verse in the Bible, this outstanding resource will helps strengthen your grasp on God's Word. By comparing the precise NASB with the magnified sentence structure of the Amplified Bible, readers are better able to appreciate the meaning of the scriptures as understood by their audience in the original languages. Known for its word-for-word literal accuracy, the New American Standard Bible, updated edition, is the #1 choice for in-depth inductive Bible study. And through its unique use of synonyms and definitions, the Amplified Bible both explains and expands the meaning of words in the text by placing amplification in parentheses and brackets after key words or phrases. Through multiple expressions, greater emphasis is given to the divine message as reflected in the original Greek and Hebrew. Now readers can benefit from both translation approaches with this side-by-side comparison that offers a more enriching experience with God's Word. NASB 12--For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13--But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. AMPLIFED BIBLE 12--For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection of realitys in a riddle or enigma], but then when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood by God]. 13--And so faith, hope, love abide faith--conviction and belief respecting man's relation to God and divine things; hope--joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love--true affection for God and man, growing out of God's love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Book excerpt: Some of the contents in this series may be too graphical and not suitable for children. Parental discretion is advised. This book serves as a documentation of what a recipient of the mercy and grace of Elohim has found convincing from His written Word. God is love. I have the utmost respect for the gift of free choice from the loving Father God. This is the first of five-volume series on "The Messianic Credentials". Among other things, this volume examines the following notions: 1. Disasters are acts of God; 2. God helps those who help themselves; 3. Life and death is in the hands of God; and 4. Every man with a mustache is a father (有鬍鬚就係老豆; jau5 wu4 sou1 zau6 hai6 lou5 dau6). The above are just some common perception of God. The last bits is about men. God sent the flood to destroy the ancient world. He also sent the Ten Plagues on ancient Egypt. Why would God, Who is love, do that? Is there an underlying rationale behind that apparent anomaly? As an Omniscient God, why did He place the forbidden tree in the Garden when He already knew Adam would eat from it? Similarly, why did God create Lucifer knowing well that he would rebel against Him? Since God foreknew that both Adam and Lucifer would fall, how can He then blame them? In this first volume, we will take a closer look at all that. In addition, you will: 1. Know what is really meant by sin (It’s not about right doing); 2. Appreciate how knowing the true meaning of sin will deepen the gratitude for the gracious love of God (Hence the Law leads to Christ); 3. Witness how Eve demonstrated the danger of knowing God based on hearsay; 4. Look at how evil has been made God and God, evil (Romans 1:18); 5. See a graphical representation of the origin of sin and the cycle of sin; 6. Trace the current ills of the earth right back to its source; 7. Gain insight into how the Law leads to Christ from the example of the apostle Paul; 8. Understand the detailed mechanics of crucifixion and therein get a sense of what the Lord went through to redeem us; 9. Extract the pertinent points of Peter’s sermon which effectively summarized what is meant by faith comes from hearing and hearing the message concerning Christ (Romans 10:17); 10. Marvel at how our hero Jesus Christ has broken the sin cycle; 11. Tap into the wisdom of God to see the future as pre-written history; and 12. Get to receive the most precious gift of your life. God has in times past foretold what the Christ would do (Hebrews 1:1-3). Along came this man by the name of Jesus from Nazareth. He did everything that God said that the Christ would do. What does that tell us? Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ. Hence, the more we hear of how Jesus of Nazareth had done what God said the Christ would do, faith in Him as the Christ arises; faith comes. This series focuses on the evidence God has provided to prove that Jesus of Nazareth was the Promised Messiah, with emphasis on His humanity aspect. The first volume of this series plays a preparatory role just as how John the Baptist announced the arrival of the Promised Messiah. It is to prepare the heart to receive the love of Father God as demonstrated by Christ crucified. Against this backdrop, I invite you to approach this series with an open mind. You may just find the perfect match for that earnest yearning in the deepest recess of your heart. Looking forward to meeting with you in the word.

Book excerpt: A Gospel-Rich, Reproducible Model for Making Disciples as Jesus Intended Biblical discipleship emphasizes encouragement, repentance, and spiritual growth—essential parts of the Christian life. However, well-meaning believers often struggle to follow Jesus, unaware their views are too legalistic, licentious, or individualistic. How can churches and Christians develop a healthy, successful path to disciple-making? In this second edition of Gospel-Centered Discipleship, Jonathan Dodson presents an effective, Spirit-led model for sanctification. Reminding readers that real discipleship is imperfect yet transformational, Dodson encourages Christians to engage more authentically with others as they grow in faith. Drawing from his own failures and successes while following Jesus, Dodson defines discipleship, describes the heart of a disciple, and gives practical guidance for mentor and peer-based discipleship as Jesus intended. Revised and Expanded: Includes three new chapters and new illustrations Applicable: Shows how discipleship can be practical and gospel-centered Theological: Addresses the Holy Spirit's involvement in discipleship Foreword by Matt Chandler: Author of The Explicit Gospel

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hopefully what all people will get from this book is that the Lord God does not want His children to have religion with Him. As we see in Genesis through Revelation, what He wants is a relationship with His children. What I am trying to say is the daily reading of His Word. When we are new, we can only can get milk from the living Word. Then as we grow, we can read the same living Word of God, but He reveals more and more to us. If we are brand new, He gives us what we need, and if in the beginning we are too afraid to pray out loud, we can pray in our minds. The saying "If you except Jesus your life will be a garden of roses" is a lie. In my walk of faith, I have gone through valleys that felt like hell. Then I got to a mountaintop, only to go through many other paths. What I know for sure is sometimes we need to go through these many troubles or rough times so that when we meet another going through close to what we have gone through, we can give them the courage to stay strong in their faith in Christ Jesus because He is the only person who can get us through everything with joy, peace, forgiveness, undeserved mercy, and grace. I love seeing people go from a vocal understanding to being able to read and comprehend and being able to find facts about the living Word that they had never been able to do before.

How does it function in the biblical text? How did it function in Israelite society? How does it relate to phenomena found in other Ancient Near Eastern cultures? How does true prophecy differ from false? The various facets and enigmas of Hebrew prophecy have occupied many biblical scholars over recent decades, and the progress of the investigation is documented by this collection of quality articles that have appeared in Vetus Testamentum. Readers will find the individual studies, from a variety of approaches, frequently eye-opening, always instructive and stimulating. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the seventh annual volume of the remarkably popular journal of biblical theology edited by Scott Hahn and his St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. This volume responds to the call of Pope Benedict XVI in his Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini for a thoughtful return to the Fathers of the Church and how they approached Sacred Scripture. This is not in any way to jettison historical-critical methods and the valuable insights that modern biblical scholarship has brought to light. It is simply to acknowledge what Pope Benedict calls for, a measured return to the interpretive methods employed by the Church Fathers as well as the theology that flowed from their exegetical labors. As he said, "The Church Fathers present a theology that still has great value today because at its heart is the study of sacred Scripture as a whole. Indeed, the Fathers are primarily and essentially commentators on sacred Scripture." Highlights include original articles by Fr. William Kurtz, SJ, Matthew Levering, Father Stephen Ryan, OP, Stephen Hildebrand, Owen Phelan, and Michael Barber, as well as an original translation of Joseph Ratzinger's (Pope Benedict XVI) foundational essay "Vicarious Representation" by Father Jared Wicks, SJ.
