Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an all-encompassing and timely analysis of the EU regulatory framework deriving from the enactment of Directive 2022/2041 on adequate minimum wages. In the first part, the book discusses the function of minimum wage policies in contemporary labour markets and the role of social partners and collective bargaining in governing minimum wage determinants and trends. The second part provides an article-by-article commentary of the Directive, including insights on crucial aspects such as the EU competence to intervene on wages, the concept of minimum wage adequacy, and the measurement and promotion of collective bargaining coverage. The third part assesses the impact of the Directive across the EU, focusing on the main systemic implications of the Directive as well as on the structural changes that Member States will need to implement. With contributions written by scholars and stakeholders from across Europe, the book sheds light on one of labour law's most fundamental objectives – to provide for adequate minimum wages. It is an invaluable resource for researchers, policy makers, trade unionists and employers' representatives.

Book Synopsis Labour Managed Firms and Post-Capitalism by : Bruno Jossa
Download or read book Labour Managed Firms and Post-Capitalism written by Bruno Jossa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marx claims that unselfishness is a child of (workplace) culture, whereas the gene is selfish. If Marx is right then the prerequisite for overthrowing capitalism is a system which both leverages selfishness and creates solidarity between workers. This book illustrates and discusses the major points of the economic theory of producer cooperatives, its evolution since the 1950s, and links with Marxian theory. Labour Managed Firms and Post-Capitalism, most importantly, demonstrates that a system of producer cooperatives offers a wealth of advantages compared to capitalism. There is general agreement that the main benefit of this form of economic democracy is that people who are allowed to freely pursue their interests are happier than those acting on somebody else’s instruction. The author argues that a system of democratic firms would eradicate classical (high-wage) unemployment and scale down both Keynesian and structural unemployment levels. He also shows that a system of producer cooperatives literally reverses the capital-labour relationship typical of capitalism and that its establishment can consequently be looked upon as a revolution. This volume is of great interest to academics, lecturers and researchers with an interest in Marxism, political economy and industrial economics, as well as economic theory and philosophy.
Book Synopsis The History of Italian Marxism by : Paolo Favilli
Download or read book The History of Italian Marxism written by Paolo Favilli and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-15 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The History of Italian Marxism, Paolo Favilli offers an articulated analysis of the different levels at which Marx's ideas - and 'Marxism' as a doctrinal 'system' - were received in Italy from the time of the First International up till the eve of the First World War. Rejecting any linear understanding of the relation between Marx's texts and the assumption of Marxism as the ideology of the burgeoning workers' movement, Favilli explores the growth of different forms of Marxist culture through the period of the Paris Commune, the late-nineteenth-century debate on 'revisionism', and the rise of revolutionary syndicalism. Asking in each case whether 'Marxism' meant a science, an ideology, a way of doing politics, a utopia, a myth or a religion, Favilli goes on to assess which of these 'Marxisms' died with, and which have survived, the 'crisis' at the end of the twentieth century. With a new preface to the English edition. First published in Italian as Storia del marxismo italiano: dalle origini alla grande guerra, FrancoAngeli s.r.l. Milan, 1996.

Book excerpt: The republication of Suzanne de Brunhoff’s classic investigation into Karl Marx’s conception of “the money commodity” shines light on commodities and their fetishism. The investigation of money as the crystallization of value in its material sense is central to how we understand capitalism and how it can be abolished. Marx on Money is an elegant analysis of how money, credit, debt and value fit into the “logic of capital” that characterizes commodity society.
