Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A celebrated collection of supplication and whispered prayers attributed to Imam Zain Al Abedin, the great grandson of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and son of Imam Husayn Ibn Ali (A.S). Al Sahifa Al Sajjadiyya is an example of the highest form of eloquence. According to Shia narrations, the book is said to have been composed after the Battle of Karbala (680 AD) and describes the relationship between man and God. Shia tradition considers this book with great respect, ranking it behind the Quran and Ali's Nahj al-Balagha. Sahifa-e-Sajjadiya comprises of heart touching supplications given to us as a gift from our beloved Imam Ali Ibn Al Hussain. To be honest, I would read Sahifa-e-Sajjadia rarely; only if it would be mentioned to read a particular supplication in some salat to be read on special holy days. This was mainly because of its inaccessibility as an easy read. Most books that I would find are in Arabic. English is a language most easily understood by many. Hence the thought of compiling these beautiful supplications in a commonly used, global language arose. It's amazing how when Allah decides to bless you, he will cause situations to come together in your favour. This is compilation in the form of a beautifully coloured and designed book is a humble step towards reaching out to people who can make these supplications a part of their routine read and put them to good use in their daily lives. We wish our readers a happy read! "Be thankful for the unknown blessings already on their way"

Book excerpt: History bends to the will of man when it is exercised with faith and steadfastness. Umar Al Farooq was one such man. He bent history to his will, leaving a legacy that successor generations have looked upon as a model to copy. He was one of the greatest of conquerors, a wise administrator, a just ruler, a monumental builder and a man of piety who loved God with the same intensity that other conquerors of his calibre have loved gold and wealth. . Umar shaped the historical edifice of Islam and whatever Islam became or did not become in subsequent centuries is due primarily to the work of this historical figure. Indeed, Umar was the architect of Islamic civilization. Humankind has a tryst with destiny, to realize its own sublime nature, in the matrix of human affairs. When free will is abused, it reduces humans to the most wretched of creatures. No man understood this better than Umar and few since the Prophet carried this trust with as much wisdom, humility, determination, sensitivity, persistence and courage. Measured by any yardstick, Umar was one of the greatest figures in human history. In this fascinating biography, the well known author Moin Qazi delves into the life and work of the great hero of Islamic history.

Book excerpt: DUA-E-MASHLOOL IN ENGLISH & ARABIC"Dua" is invocation, it is supplication and a request to Allah. It is thehighest form of worship.Allah loves those who make "dua". A prayer orsalat is not complete unless you make dua at the end. The role of Dua is toform an intimate relationship with God through learning his will, supplication, and reaching spiritual devotion. Dua teaches us to bow downto Allah, to let go and open our hearts to him, to acknowledge the lowliness of our being and the mightiness of our Lord.It is a conversation withAllah, which enhances our faith and believe in the existence of Allah.Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: "When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close(to them). I listen to the prayer of every supplicant when he calls on me."(Quran, 2:1 86)Dua e Mashlool is one of the most powerful supplications. It is also known as the supplication of the youth stricken for his sins. The recitation of this dua has numerous benefits: It brings countless blessings. All your legitimate desires will be fulfilled. It drives away poverty and sickness. Sins are for given. Debts are cleared. Enemies become friends. Domestic affairs are set aright.Disputes are settled in your favour. Prisoners are set free.Mental worries disappear. Prosperity, sound mind and healthy body tand by you at all times. Mercy and forgiveness of sins are the main advantages the almighty Allah makes available if this duais recited regularly.

Book excerpt: NOTE: Illustrated and designed to encourage the newer generation, especially those who find it difficult to read Arabic or any other language, this is a humble attempt at reaching out to people across the globe so that they can benefit from the blessings of such duas. It has both, Arabic as well as English text for the readers to benefit it from. About Dua e Kumayl: Kumayl Ibn Ziyad was a prominent companion of Amir al Muminin, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as.) and this sublime Dua was first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Imam Ali.According to Allama Majlisi, Kumayl had attended an assembly in the Mosque at Basra which was addressed by Imam Ali in which the night of the 15th of Shaban was mentioned. Imam Ali said- "Whosoever keeps awake in devoutness on this night (15th Shaban) and recites the Dua of Prophet Khizr, undoubtedly that person's supplication will be responded to and granted."When the assembly at the Mosque had dispersed, Kumayl called at the house where Imam Ali was staying, and requested him to inform him of Prophet Khizr's Dua. Imam Ali asked Kumayl to sit down, record and memorise the Dua which Imam Ali dictated to Kumayl.Imam Ali then advised Kumayl to recite this Dua on the eve of (i.e. evening preceding) every Friday, or once a month or at least once in every year so that, added Imam Ali,"Allah may protect thee from the evils of the enemies and the plots contrived by impostors. O' Kumayl! in consideration of thy companionship and understanding, I grant thee this honour of entrusting this Dua to thee.

Book excerpt: Muhammad Ali Pasha, who ruled Egypt from 1805 to 1848, was a dynamic and far-sighted leader and is credited by many with the modernization of the country. When his son Tusun died of plague in 1816, the grief-stricken father commemorated him with a sabil (a public cistern and water dispenser) of an architectural and decorative style entirely new to Egypt. The sabil fell into disuse and disrepair in the twentieth century, but after a painstaking conservation program lasting six years it is once again an architectural jewel, now open to the public. This guide to the spectacular and important sabil in the heart of historic Cairo explains why and how it was constructed, how it was used, and how it changed over time. It also tells the story of the extraordinary life and fascinating personality of the founder of the building, Muhammad 'Ali Pasha. Written by the architect who directed the long conservation project and by a historian who is a leading authority on Muhammad 'Ali and his times, this account introduces the general reader to a unique building and offers an insight into events in a crucial period in Egypt's history. The book is illustrated with many photographs, diagrams, historical engravings, and reproductions of unpublished documents and letters.
