Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saddle Up With Jesus is a book about life touched by the Master’s hand. Most of the poems are centered around a cowboy on a cattle drive., his experiences and his conversation with the father about them. They describe him praising his heavenly father, faith in his miraculous power, spending quiet time with him, and sharing him with others. Last but not least the poems describe living with Jesus. They touch on the Bible, different people, church, sorrow, times of testing, cowboy gear and heaven. All of them are pictures in words of our daily ride through life with Jesus. Finally, the last poem in the book is a sharing of how some people in the world view our heavenly father. The title of the poem is “What Would I Do Without Jesus?” I don’t know the answer to the question nor do I want to know the answer to the question. I always want to be found in the saddle with Jesus.

In the person of Dwight Eisenhower planning and executing the D-Day landings and the subsequent liberation of Europe, these basic concepts are vividly brought to life. As Loftus rightly observes, no CEO ever faced a more daunting, pressure-filled, obstacle-laden mission than did Ike. Perfect reading for these turbulent times.” —Steve Forbes, Chairman & CEO, Forbes Media “Geoff Loftus has written an intriguing and highly useful book on Dwight Eisenhower’s extraordinary ability as a leader. If you liked Ike before, you’ll like him even more now. And you’ll be grateful to Geoff Loftus.” —Christopher Buckley, author of Boomsday and Thank You for Smoking “In Lead Like Ike, Geoff Loftus provides keen insights on management lessons drawn from one of the greatest battlefields in military history. The lessons may appear simple, but it’s the simplest management principles that we often forget: Listen to your people. Set your vision. Be consistent about your message. Let your managers manage.” —Salvatore J. Vitale, Senior Vice President, The Conference Board Who was the greatest CEO of the 20th century? A persuasive case can be made for General Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower, who undertook history’s most harrowing executive assignment: Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe on June 6, 1944. In Lead Like Ike, business journalist and communications guru Geoff Loftus weaves a fly on-the-wall narrative from Ike’s perspective as supreme allied commander overseeing the Normandy invasion. While swept into a gripping story that honors the sacrifice of all who fought and died on D-Day, you’ll also be drawn to a cache of battle-tested strategies and tactics with direct applications to modern-day business leadership.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of John Cowboy Style: A Paraphrase of the Gospel in Cowboy Language steps into the boots of countless books, compositions, paintings, and sculptures that have, over the centuries, turned to the gospels for inspiration and to particular cultures for means of expression. Author Mel Hooten, drawing upon personal history and long experience, retells the gospel of John in the lingo of the cowboy. From start to finish, including both the gospel writers narrative and every figures words, this retelling presents the gospel afresh through the straight-talking dialect of the Texas Panhandles traditional cowboys. With this approach, The Gospel of John Cowboy Style presents familiar passages in a new light. In John 3:16, for example, Jesus says, Ya see, God loves this world so much, that He gave His one and only Son to die, so that every man, woman, boy, and girl who believes in Him will not die, but will be a-livin forever. If you struggle with unfamiliar words in traditional translations of the Bible, The Gospel of John Cowboy Style offers an easy-to-understand retelling of the good news of Jesus Christ. Whether you love the heritage of the American West or enjoy the thrill of hearing the gospel in new ways, this paraphrase will rope you in with its powerful mixture of cowboy culture and gospel content.

Book excerpt: Be Prepared, Not Scared Are we living in the end times? If so, what does that mean for you? In contrast to the confusion and anxiety that often comes with this topic, Max Lucado believes God wants us to be prepared, not scared; informed, not intimidated. He writes: "The future is not frightening if you know the future. And you can know the future when you know who holds it." What Happens Next is an optimistic, accessible, and nonsensational guide to what the Bible says about heaven's time line that will empower you to face the future with faith. Max takes you on a well-researched overview of what God's Word says, exploring the following four big ideas that provide a solid foundation for understanding God's eternal plan: We were made to reign with Christ. God has made and will keep his promises. Heaven has a time line. A golden era-the millennium-awaits God's children. Plus, Max takes you on a journey of the time line of history, examining essential milestones such as the rapture, the seven years of tribulation, and the glory of heaven. Whether you find yourself in the "I can't wait," "I'm almost ready," or "I'm not sure about all of this" camp, you will be encouraged to ponder God's promises for the future. In Max's signature encouraging style, he reminds us, "It's all about hope. It's all about him."

Yet we also find many stories of men who were able to look beyond their circumstances, completely trust in the Lord, and follow Him wherever He chose to them. Like us, these men made both good and bad decisions along the way—and experienced both good and bad consequences—and we find our struggles and hopes in the pages of the Bible that tells their stories. In this 10-session workbook, Max Lucado tells some of his favorite stories of these men in the Bible. Stories include: Noah: When You're Low on Hope Job: The Most Famous Conversation in the Bible Jacob: Wrestling with the Past Moses: The Voice from the Mop Bucket David: Colossal Collapses Joseph: Unanswered Questions Matthew: Friend of Flops Peter: The Gospel of the Second Chance Lazarus: The Final Witness Paul: Don’t Write Off Anyone Each session includes five insights on each character and Bible study questions to help you delve into the stories and apply them to your life.

Book excerpt: How can we find hope that carries us through the difficulties in life? At some point all of us face times of hardship, suffering, and despair that can turn our lives upside down and break our hearts wide open. During these trials we may feel alone, overwhelmed by circumstances, and afraid that God has abandoned us. In the fog of adversity, we hold our broken hearts in our hands and cry out to God, Why? How could you let this happen? Where were you? Catastrophe can shake the stability of our world, leaving us to wonder about Gods love for us, and raising even more questions. Why am I suffering? Will this trial ever end? How will I get through this? Does God even see me? In Held by God, the authors share their own struggle with these questions as the family travels an uncertain road through three serious medical challenges; catamenial pneumothorax, renal artery stenosis, and cancer. Written in a conversational style that weaves Biblical truths throughout the narrative, the book intertwines the authors story with the accounts of Job, Paul, and King David, among others, to provide unique examples of Gods unchanging character. Understanding Gods faithfulness and recognizing his provision, allows us to find rest during times of turmoil and gives us a hope that endures.

My husband and I had been living large for nearly thirty years and were in debt up to our eyeballs when the housing market crashed. As went the economy, so went my husbands job. Crushed with depression, he left for Hollywood to reinvent himself and his career. I was left with a huge home, a huge debt, two college-aged sons, my husbands eighty-nine-year-old mother who had lived in our home for seventeen years, and a badly bruised self-esteem. Within four months, the bank foreclosed on our debt. I sold what I could, shipped the rest to California, and helped my sons and mother-in-law find places to live. From my crisis came deliverance. From my loneliness came a newfound intimacy with the One who loves me unconditionally. He stands beside me drawing me near to Him in prayer, praise and Bible study, constantly reminding me of the Bible verses I memorized as a child. Each day I see His flavor in my life. God has never left my side. When others ride off into the sunset and you are left without a horse, let the dust settle. Lay down the burden of anger, resentment and fear. You were never meant to carry the heavy load. Jesus has said: My yoke is easy and my burden is light! (Matthew 11:30) Jesus Christ restores through forgiveness: His and yours.
