Book excerpt: Time and the Rhythms of Emancipatory Education argues that by rethinking the way we relate to time, we can fundamentally rethink the way we conceive education. Beyond the contemporary rhetoric of acceleration, speed, urgency or slowness, this book provides an epistemological, historical and theoretical framework that will serve as a comprehensive resource for critical reflection on the relationship between the experience of time and emancipatory education. Drawing upon time and rhythm studies, complexity theories and educational research, Alhadeff-Jones reflects upon the temporal and rhythmic dimensions of education in order to (re)theorize and address current societal and educational challenges. The book is divided into three parts. The first begins by discussing the specificities inherent to the study of time in educational sciences. The second contextualizes the evolution of temporal constraints that determine the ways education is institutionalized, organized, and experienced. The third and final part questions the meanings of emancipatory education in a context of temporal alienation. This is the first book to provide a broad overview of European and North-American theories that inform both the ideas of time and rhythm in educational sciences, from school instruction, curriculum design and arts education, to vocational training, lifelong learning and educational policies. It will be of key interest to academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of philosophy of education, sociology of education, history of education, psychology, curriculum and learning theory, and adult education. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why the entire earth operates on a seven-day cycle? Have you thought about how even some of the smallest animals seem to follow a weekly schedule? This is NOT a coincidence. Our amazing God, having created this world in seven days, has implanted in living things a very tiny yet powerful gland that transfers information within our bodies—or even between species—by biochemical, neurological, or photonic means. The pineal gland is the rhythm-maker of our bodies and is a testament to the Sabbath created by God in Eden. This seal of our Creator is non-changing and anchored in time. As you explore the various aspects of these biological rhythms in humans, animals, birds, and even in insects and plants, you will see how there is a larger purpose to these circadian rhythms. The seven-day cycle is a gift from our Creator, our Redeemer of the world, to accept His invitation to come to Him and find the REST He desires for us in these troubled times. "Congratulations Dr Kenneth Greenaway for bringing together the evidences for the biological origins of Seven-day Rhythms in this succinct yet enlightening manuscript. As we grasp for a greater understanding of our origins may this work lead searchers for 'truth' to an eureka moment." ~ Dr. George S. Daniel M.Sc.,Ph.D.

Book excerpt: Power has been a defining and constitutive theme of adult education scholarship for over a century and is a central concern of many of the most famous and influential thinkers in the field. Adult education has been particularly interested in how an analysis of power can be used to support transformative learning and democratic participation. In a fragile and interdependent world these questions are more important than ever. The aim of this collection is to offer an analysis of power and possibility in adult education which acknowledges, analyzes and responds to the complexity and diversity that characterizes contemporary education and society. Power and Possibility: Adult Education in a Diverse and Complex World explores the topic of power and possibility theoretically, historically and practically through a range of perspectives and in relation to varied areas of interest within contemporary adult education. It is concerned with addressing how power works in and through adult education today by exploring what has changed in recent years and what is shaping and driving policy. Alongside this the book explores ways of theorizing learning, power and transformation that builds and extends adult education philosophy. In particular it takes up the themes of diversity and solidarity and explores barriers and possibilities for change in relation to these themes.

Book excerpt: A revolutionary nutrient therapy that stimulates the energetic pathways of the body to improve physical and psychological health--without needles • Explains how Nutripuncture accelerates the body’s self-healing abilities through the meridian system of traditional Chinese medicine • Explores all 38 Nutripuncture remedies and what physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms they treat, often with rapid results • An easy and accessible way to treat acute or chronic ailments and allergies as well as deep-seated or traumatic psychological stresses Nutripuncture works with the body’s energetic meridians like acupuncture and acupressure--but without needles or pressure points. Combining traditional Chinese medicine with organic chemistry, the latest understanding of DNA, and the cellular nutrition work of Georges Lakhovsky and Nobel Prize-winner Barbara McClintock, Nutripuncture uses mineral complexes to supply microcurrents of reinforcing energy to the body’s information pathways and organ systems. By focusing on the life energy within our cells and balancing and nourishing the meridians, Nutripuncture accelerates our innate self-healing abilities to overcome illness, relationship conflicts, and many other physical, emotional, and mental stressors--often with rapid results. This guide explores all 38 Nutripuncture remedies, explaining what meridians they interact with and what physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms they can help--from treatment of acute illnesses, allergies, and chronic conditions such as acne or osteoporosis to broader goals of surviving divorce, detoxifying from damaged relationships with parents and partners, or reactivating stalled phases of development from childhood or adolescence. Providing an accessible introduction to this revolutionary method developed by Dr. Patrick Veret, this book shows how Nutripuncture provides an easy and noninvasive way to release unresolved emotional and psychological trauma and support the vital energy of our cells, meridians, organs, and nervous system without negative side effects or drug interactions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structure and Agency in Young People’s Lives brings together different takes on the possible combinations of agency and structure in the life course, thus rejecting the notion that young individuals are the single masters of their lives, but also the view that their social destinies are completely out of their hands. ‘How did I get here?’ This is a question young people have always asked themselves and is often asked by youth researchers. There is no easy and single answer. The lives that are told, on one hand, and their interpretation, on the other, may have the underlying idea of 'own doing' or the idea of 'social determinism' or, more accurately and frequently, a combination of the two. This collection constitutes a comprehensive map on how to make sense of youth’s biographies and trajectories, it questions and reshapes the discussion on the role and responsibility of youth studies in the understanding of how people juggle opportunities and constraints, and contributes to escaping what Furlong and Cartmel identified as the "epistemological fallacy of late modernity", in which young people find themselves responsible for collective failures or inevitabilities. It can thus interest students, researchers and professors, youth workers and all of those who work for and with young people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has French society been made, by whom and why? And how in turn has it influenced the French? This book sets out the institutionalized rules and norms that continue to structure France, together with the ‘political work’ that has recently changed or reproduced these power relations. Exploring a range of age groups and types of social activity, including work, business, entertainment, political mobilizations and retirement, Made in France examines where significant change has occurred over the last four decades. Smith argues that while transformation has occurred in France's financial and education sectors, only relatively marginal shifts have occurred elsewhere in French society. To explain this pattern of continuity and isolated change, the book strongly nuances claims that neo-liberalism, globalization or a rise in populism have been its causes. References to these trends have impacted upon French politics to varying extents, Smith argues; however, France continues to be dominated by issues which are specific to the country and linked to its deep societal structures and history. Smith provides a comprehensive account of French society and politics and in doing so proposes an insightful analytical framework applicable to the comparative analysis of other nations.
