Book excerpt: Primeramente, el libro analiza la creatividad desde la probelmática que nace al plantearse en qué circunstancias surge lo innato y lo racional, en qué medida se intensifica cada uno de ellos y en qué proporción surgen ambos como componentes vinculados a lo social para lograr innovación. En tanto, el pensamiento humano está regido por componentes tanto heurísticos como algorítmicos, se cuestiona ¿cómo surge una idea y cómo se plasma y diferencia en la realidad? ¿Es necesariamente la innovación producto de una acción creativa o viceversa? ¿Cómo nuestras mentes logran plasmar en la realidad lo que antes no existía? Si bien la experiencia obtenida por la observación de nuestro entorno es un ingrediente necesario para su justificación y entendimiento, también es real que ese medio es una variable en términos de tiempo, lugar y contexto cultural. Desde este punto de vista, plantea que nuestros esquemas perceptivos se movilizan entre lo verdadero y lo falso acorde a nuestras apetencias, deseos y necesidades en un determinado lugar y momento. Así, si nuestras necesidades cambian, también lo hacen nuestras percepciones. Cuestiona cuándo una percepción es real y duradera, y en qué circunstancias no lo es. ¿Cómo y porqué valoramos una idea, producto y/o servicio y lo designamos como creativo? Si no siempre lo creativo es innovador, y viceversa; entonces, ¿qué mecanismo mental utilizamos para catalogar una acción como creativa? ¿Es acaso la creatividad una acción cuantificable cualitativamente? ¿Existen gradientes de innovación y creatividad?, y si así fuera ¿cuáles son los parámetros para determinarlos? ¿Es lo simple más creativo que lo complejo? ¿Es la utilidad la que designa el nivel de creatividad de una acción proyectual? ¿Es la creatividad producto de la necesidad? ¿Son las ideas dogmáticas asimiladas por los sujetos en su educación las que restringen el posterior desarrollo de su capacidad de imaginar y crear? En términos empresariales, siendo la creatividad uno de los recursos vitales para la existencia y desarrollo de las instituciones, ¿cómo se gestiona eficazmente dentro de la empresa a nivel multidisciplinar? ¿Qué técnicas podrían o deberían aplicarse en los distintos ambientes para motivar el desarrollo de la creatividad? ¿Son las nuevas tecnologías recursos necesarios para el desarrollo creativo? ¿Cuáles son y serán los objetivos creativos de las acciones proyectuales requeridas para la sustentabilidad y desarrollo de las sociedades del siglo XXI? ¿Cómo imaginar y crear un mundo humanamente más justo en un contexto cada vez más cambiante, contingente e hiperglobalizado? Estos y otros, son algunos de los aspectos que el libro intenta dilucidar, aspirando establecer patrones cualitativos y cuantitativos esenciales que en diferentes ámbitos nos permitan distinguir entre lo que es creativo y lo que no lo es; entre lo relevante y irrelevante para las sociedades en un momento hístórico determinado. Para ello, el autor aplica conceptos de pensamiento sistémico, en tanto un ordenamiento coherente de antecedentes y pensamientos que justifican sus partes en función del todo, desarrollando posibles estructuraciones mentales y técnicas creativas realizadas y evidenciadas en términos de utilidad durante 26 años de práctica profesional y docencia universitaria en diferentes campos profesionales para el desarrollo de nuestra creatividad, sosteniendo finalmente que el “aura” entre lo existente y lo no existente es potencialmente creativa.

In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach

Book excerpt: On a mountainside in sunny Tuscany, in October 1989, 96 people from 23 countries on five continents gathered to learn and teach about the problems of managing contemporary science. The diversity of economic and political systems represented in the group was matched by our occupations, which stretched from science policy practitioners, through research scientists and engineers, through academic observers of science and science policy. It was this diversity, along with the opportunities for infonnal discussion provided by long meals and remote location, that made the conference a special learning experience. Except at lecture time, it was impossible to distinguish the "students" at this event from the "teachers," and even the most senior members of the teaching staff went away with a sense that they had learned more from this group than from many a standard conference on science policy they had attended. The flavor of the conference experience cannot be captured adequately in a proceedings volume, and so we have not tried to create a historical record in this book. Instead, we have attempted to illustrate the core problems the panicipants at the conference shared, discussed, and debated, using both lectures delivered by the fonnal teaching staff and summaries of panel discussions, which extended to other panicipants and therefore increased the range of experiences reponed.
