This book was released on 2016 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study provides a new interpretation of how political authority was conceived and transmitted in the Early Mongol Empire (1227-1259) and its successor state in the Middle East, the Ikhanate (1258-1335). Authority within the Mongol Empire was intimately tied to the character of its founder, Chinggis Khan, whose reign served as an idealized model for the exercise of legitimate authority amongst his political successors. Yet Chinggis Khan's legacy was interpreted differently by the various factions within his army. In the years after his death, two distinct political traditions emerged within the Mongol Empire, the collegial and the patrimonialist. Each of these streams represented the economic and political interests of different groups within the Mongol Empire, respectively, the military aristocracy and the central government. The supporters of both streams claimed to adhere to the ideal of Chinggisid rule, but their different statuses within the Mongol community led them to hold divergent views of what constituted legitimate political authority. Michael Hope's study details the origin of, and the differences between, these two streams of tradition; analyzing the role that these streams played in the political development of the Mongol Empire and the lkhanate; and assessing the role that ideological tension between the two streams played in the events leading up to the division of the Ilkhanate. Hope demonstrates that the policy and identity of both the Early Mongol Empire and the Ilkhanate were defined by the conflict between these competing streams of Chinggisid authority.

No British monarch has had a tougher act to follow. Now, after seventy years of waiting and preparation, King Charles III is not just the head of the most famous family in the world. He is the custodian of a thousand-year-old institution which must redefine its place in the digital age while others insist on rewriting the past. With unrivaled access to the king, the royal family, and the court, leading royal authority Robert Hardman brings us the inside story on the most pivotal and challenging year for the monarchy in living memory. From the death of Elizabeth II through to the ancient spectacle of the Coronation, from the rise of a new Prince and Princess of Wales to the latest "truth bombs" from the Sussexes, this is the story of the making of a monarch.

Book excerpt: Ramayana - A Modern Retelling offers an intriguing look at Hindu mythology, tracing the extraordinary lives and aspirations of those who lived in ancient India. This story is not history or biography, but about what could have been. One of the oldest living religions in the world, Hinduism is unique in that it has many sects but no single leader. Its beliefs have evolved over 4,000 years, and it numbers over 1 billion followers. It is difficult to understand Hindu Dharma unless one tries to understand the characters of Raama, Lakshmana, Seetha, Bharata, and Hanuman. This book does just that. Ruling over the kingdom of Khosala from the city of Ayodhya, King Dasaratha is beloved and respected by all. Although he has three wives, he is childless. To rectify the matter, a powerful prayer is performed. Within a year, four sons are delivered by his three wives, including a set of twins. Named Raama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrugna, they train to become royal princes. As the brothers mature, they are molded by training and royal values. This greatest of epic stories follows them as they marry and fight for their honour. The story blazes across India until a new king is crowned. Squadron Leader S. Ravi [IAF] Retd, was born and raised in Chennai, a city in southern India. After graduating in mechanical engineering from Regional Engineering College, Rourkela, Ravi joined the Indian Air Force as a commissioned officer. Having travelled the world as an officer, Ravi is now a business consultant for a company called Force 1 and is living in Chennai with his wife.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Was Jesus a public figure? A political figure? Yes, according to Luke's gospel, Jesus was a Christ who was both public and political. Recent developments in the theory and practice of the study of space have provided tools to classify ancient social-spatial spheres with greater nuance and depth. A broad survey of literary and archaeological resources in the ancient world, as well as an in-depth look at Plutarch's Political Precepts and Philostratus's Life of Apollonius, reveals that the familiar dichotomy of public and private does not suffice to describe the Hellenistic-Roman milieu that shaped the author and audience of the third gospel. This study employs social-spatial analysis to explore how Luke uses the power of place to portray Jesus frequently engaging the unofficial public sphere and local politics, specifically in 18:35--19:43--the public healing of the blind beggar, the unexpected impact of Zacchaeus's hospitality, the political implications of the parable of the king and his subjects, and the publicity and politics of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. The result is an illuminating look at the overall spatial character of Luke's gospel, the development of Christianity in the latter half of the first century, and the role of place in contemporary Christianity.

Book excerpt: The nation of Israel tells its story of the rise of kings not once but twice (Joshua–2 Kings, 1–2 Chronicles); and during this period, they wrote Psalms and gathered together their wise sayings. Then, plunged into the darkness of exile, they had to discover again who God was and what kind of life he called them to live. In the same way, Christians read these texts today for what they share about a promised Messiah and how they explain what life with God looks like in all its complexity.
