Book excerpt: The scope of this work is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the aerosol pollution in the megacity Beijing. The focus lies on the interaction of anthropogenic and geogenic aerosol particles, their spatio-temporal variation, the most important pollution sources as well as the impact of particulate aerosols on human health and the environment. Furthermore, the bioavailable fraction of metal concentrations and the effect of mitigation measures during the 2008 Olympic Games were evaluated.
Book Synopsis Separating arsenic oxyanions from natural waters for oxygen isotope analysis by : Tang, Xiaohui
Download or read book Separating arsenic oxyanions from natural waters for oxygen isotope analysis written by Tang, Xiaohui and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-14 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study has developed a complete procedure for the measurement of oxygen isotopes in arsenic oxyanions in natural waters by using different adsorbents. The experimental results of kinetic exchange of oxygen between AsO43- and water show that the entire exchange procedure happens in a very short time at different pH conditions and temperatures.
Book Synopsis Arsenic Mobilization Processes in the Red River Delta, Vietnam by : Elisabeth Eiche
Download or read book Arsenic Mobilization Processes in the Red River Delta, Vietnam written by Elisabeth Eiche and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spatial variability of dissolved arsenic (As) concentrations in aquifers was studied near Ha Noi, Vietnam. The goal was to identify major geochemical, sedimentological and hydrochemical differences between high and low As regions. Also, the behaviour of As and other elements during sequential extractions was characterized with micro synchrotron XRF analysis. Based on the results a conceptual model was developed which could explain the current situation on site and in other affected areas.
Book Synopsis Selenium Isotope Studies in Plants - Development and Validation of a Novel Geochemical Tool and its Application to Organic Samples by : Banning, Helena
Download or read book Selenium Isotope Studies in Plants - Development and Validation of a Novel Geochemical Tool and its Application to Organic Samples written by Banning, Helena and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-13 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selenium (Se), being an essential nutrient and a toxin, enters the food chain mainly via plants. Selenium isotope signatures were proved to be an excellent redox tracer, making it a promising tool for the exploration of the Se cycle in plants. The analytical method is sensitive on organic samples and requires particular preparation methods, which were developed and validated in this study. Plant cultivation setups revealed the applicability of these methods to trace plant internal processes.
Download or read book Sorption in 2020s written by George Kyzas and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deliberately keeps background information to a minimum, instead it comprehensively covers adsorption of liquid solutions, the difference between equilibrium individual solute uptake and surface excess, a general discussion of adsorbate uptake mechanisms and uptake rate expression, uptake steps, performance models and their generalizations, application of performance models, and design methods based on the constant behavior assumption, and the unused bed length concept.
Book Synopsis Arsenic in groundwater of West Bengal: Implications from a field study by : Harald Neidhardt
Download or read book Arsenic in groundwater of West Bengal: Implications from a field study written by Harald Neidhardt and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents results of an interdisciplinary field study assessing the contribution of biological and inorganic processes in the mobilisation and accumulation of arsenic in groundwater of the Bengal Delta Plain, West Bengal. Investigations were focussed on the distribution of arsenic in sediments and shallow groundwater of two representative study sites. All results were combined in an effort to develop a conceptional model describing the mobility of arsenic in West Bengal aquifers.
Book Synopsis Selenium Transfer between Kaolinite or Goethite Surfaces, Nutrient Solution and Oryza Sativa by : Nothstein, Alexandra Kelly
Download or read book Selenium Transfer between Kaolinite or Goethite Surfaces, Nutrient Solution and Oryza Sativa written by Nothstein, Alexandra Kelly and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this study was to describe and quantify Se transfer at the interface between soil and plant. For this purpose, three Se reservoirs were defined: soil, soil solution and plant, represented by kaolinite or goethite, nutrient solution and rice. First, Se transfer from solution to plant and Se partitioning in the plant was studied; then adsorption-desorption processes of Se onto kaolinite and goethite were investigated. Finally, a mass balance of the combined experiment was modelled.

Download or read book Advances in Soil Science written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Soil Science was conceived in 1982 to provide a forum for leading international scientists to analyze and summarize the available scientific information on a subject, assessing its importance and ident ifying additional research needs. This goal seems even more appropriate today. Much is known about our soil resources. The principles learned and the technology developed need to be used to increase food pro duction, particularly in developing countries, and sustain the productivity of the resource base. Advances in Soil Science fills a gap between the scientific journals and the comprehensive reference books. Scientists can delve in depth on a particular subject relating to soil science. Contributors are asked in particular to develop and identify principles that have practical applications to both developing and developed agricultures. Advances in Soil Science was established to be international in scope and cover all subjects relating to soil science. This volume certainly fulfills that objective. The first chapter is concerned with denitrification. The significance of denitrification in nitrogen use efficiency in agricultural, grassland, and forest ecosystems, and in global nitrogen cycling is now well recognized. Therefore, an understanding of denitrification is essential for the efficient use of nitrogen fertilizers and for protecting the environ ment. The second chapter looks at the effects of subzero temperatures on the physical, biological, and chemical processes. This is an important area of soil science that has not been studied in great detail.
