Book excerpt: Popular radio host and conservative legal and political commentator Jordan Sekulow offers an action plan that will bring real change to government and help secure the future of our nation. The next red wave is coming: November 3, 2020. We face battles on many fronts. The Deep State bureaucracy will stop at nothing to undermine the conservative agenda, even when that's the agenda chosen by the American voter. The liberal bureaucracy will continue to work alongside former liberal government officials from, yes, the Obama Administration and Team Clinton. In this election, the Left's prized goal - exclusively - will be defeating President Donald Trump by whatever means necessary. A red wave that surpasses the turnout and figures of the historic 2016 election will be the only way to win. Our opponents won't be caught off guard by President Trump again. I promise you, the DNC and liberal activists organizations began working on plans to defeat President Trump in 2020 before he was even inaugurated in 2017. In fact, we have evidence of FBI officials attempting to undermine President Trump as he was preparing to take the Oath of Office. So-called "progressives" and the radical Left relentlessly force their liberal agenda on the American people. Even when Republican majorities control both houses of Congress, the deck can feel stacked against us. The confirmation hearings for Justice Kavanaugh are a good reminder about the chaos liberals can cause even when they are in the minority. Now, Democrats control the House of Representatives while Republicans maintain control of the U.S. Senate. We deserve better. All Americans deserve better. We deserve politicians who keep their promises. The only way to force action and hold our elected officials accountable is to know the issues and engage the political process. But it's more than just fulfilling our civic duty at the ballot box. It's being actively engaged in public discourse in between elections. Battles - important battles - are won far more often in the court of public opinion than in any federal courtroom. These battles affect our lives every single day. It's time to fight back and come together to generate the next red wave. We can't wait another moment. Now is the time to do it. It really is up to us. The clock is ticking.

Book excerpt: A memoir by an American who almost single-handedly introduced Soviet rock to the free world, [...] Stingray, who wrote this memoir with her daughter, Madison, nicely captures her daring amid an atmosphere of liberation and fear, and she's a study in moxie and enthusiasm. --Kirkus Reviews As one of the first American musicians to break through the Soviet scene, and one of the few women to be seen as an equal amongst Leningrad's pantheon of rock superstars, Stingray's perspective on the development of late Soviet rock is probably the single most important source for those who want a birds-eye view of late Soviet youth culture, and Stingray's stories are as entertaining as they are relevant and illuminating. --Alexander Herbert, author of What About Tomorrow?: An Oral History of Russian Punk from the Soviet Era to Pussy Riot Wild and vivid -- a rollicking memoir of romance and rock 'n' roll in an era of upheaval and transition. From Los Angeles to Leningrad and back again, Joanna's story is borne along by her infectious, headlong enthusiasm. It's quite a ride. --Patrick Radden Keefe, creator of the Wind of Change podcast and author of Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland The history of Russian rock music could have been very different without Joanna Stingray. Joanna was friends with rock musicians, recorded songs with them, shot their videos and brought them clothes and instruments from the West. Her video footage, capturing young icons of Russian rock like Viktor Tsoi, Sergei Kuryokhin, Timur Novikov and Boris Grebenshchikov, is rare evidence of the golden era of the Soviet underground. --The Moscow Times Red Wave is a warm and conversational autobiography about a lost world, peopled with courageous artists risking their freedom for the ideas of expression, art, and rock 'n' roll. [...] We root for her and her friends to overcome bureaucracy, oppression, isolation, deprivation, and the heavy footsteps of the KGB. [...] In a readable and personable way, Red Wave helps shine some light into this remarkable corner of rock history. --Tim Sommer, Guernica Joanna Stingray's appearance in St. Petersburg in the early 1980s must have been God's response to our unconscious prayers. Her naive bravery, curiosity and generosity created a kind of a lifeline for us rockers: she brought in things we needed to play our music, and took out not only our recordings but the very message of our existence. Had it not been for her and her Red Wave, it would have taken Aquarium many more years to have official records on Melodiya and Kino to start touring Europe. This fearless maiden broke through the siege that looked hopelessly unbreakable. She threw a life-saver into our waters and she changed everything. No matter how many times we thank her -- it's never enough. --Boris Grebenshchikov (Aquarium), 2018

Book excerpt: Emergency managers and public safety professionals are more frequently being called on to address increasingly challenging and complex critical incidents, with a wider variety and intensity of hazards, threats, and community vulnerabilities. Much of the work that falls into the scope of emergency managers – prevention, preparedness, mitigation – is “blue sky planning” and can be contained and effectively managed within projects. This book provides a foundational project management methodology relevant to emergency management practice, and explains and demonstrates how project management can be applied in the context of emergency and public safety organizations. Special features include: an initial focus on risk assessment and identification of mitigation and response planning measures; a clear set of better practices, using a diverse set of examples relevant to today’s emergency environment, from projects to develop emergency response exercises to application development to hazard mitigation; a framework for managing projects at a strategic level and how to incorporate this into an organization’s program, and presents how to develop and manage an emergency program and project portfolio; and suitability as both a hands-on training guide for emergency management programs and a textbook for academic emergency management programs. This book is intended for emergency managers and public safety professionals who are responsible for developing emergency programs and plans, including training courses, job aids, computer applications and new technology, developing exercises, and for implementing these plans and components in response to an emergency event. This audience includes managers in emergency and first response functions such as fire protection, law enforcement and public safety, emergency medical services, public health and healthcare, sanitation, public works, business continuity managers, crisis managers, and all managers in emergency support functions as described by FEMA. This would include those who have responsibility for emergency management functions, even without the related title.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Conceptual Breakthrough in Our Understanding of Fundamental Nature of Matter and Energy!! A lot of questions have bothered science for a long time! What is a photon? Why does light behave both like a particle and a wave? How does light transform into matter? What is gravity? What is Big Bang and what came before it? The list is endless ... Riding on a Ray of Light describes a working model, called the Negentropic Model, which describes the fundamental nature of matter and energy. The negentropic model, formulated as a single theoretical principle based on the current scientific concepts, describes the precise structure of photon along with an explicit mechanism of generation of a light. It also describes the precise nature of matter and its formation in nature along with the intriguing nature of gravity. Alongside, this model explains the underlying meaning of some of the weirdest quantum phenomena such as wave-particle duality. In addition, by proposing the concept of ‘dark protons’, negentropic model allows us to delineate the precise nature of dark matter and dark energy, and this knowledge lets us peep into the depths of black holes to understand their true nature. Basing on these findings, the concept of Big Bang is revised and a brand-new concept of Differential Big Bang proposed! Riding on a Ray of Light presents the most comprehensive model in fundamental physics proposed so for, answering many of the hitherto unanswered questions in particle physics and cosmology, which really helps us to work towards a Theory of Everything !

Book excerpt: This handbook addresses a growing list of challenges faced by regions and cities in the Pacific Rim, drawing connections around the what, why, and how questions that are fundamental to sustainable development policies and planning practices. These include the connection between cities and surrounding landscapes, across different boundaries and scales; the persistence of environmental and development inequities; and the growing impacts of global climate change, including how physical conditions and social implications are being anticipated and addressed. Building upon localized knowledge and contextualized experiences, this edited collection brings attention to place-based approaches across the Pacific Rim and makes an important contribution to the scholarly and practical understanding of sustainable urban development models that have mostly emerged out of the Western experiences. Nine sections, each grounded in research, dialogue, and collaboration with practical examples and analysis, focus on a theme or dimension that carries critical impacts on a holistic vision of city-landscape development, such as resilient communities, ecosystem services and biodiversity, energy, water, health, and planning and engagement. This international edited collection will appeal to academics and students engaged in research involving landscape architecture, architecture, planning, public policy, law, urban studies, geography, environmental science, and area studies. It also informs policy makers, professionals, and advocates of actionable knowledge and adoptable ideas by connecting those issues with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. The collection of writings presented in this book speaks to multiyear collaboration of scholars through the APRU Sustainable Cities and Landscapes (SCL) Program and its global network, facilitated by SCL Annual Conferences and involving more than 100 contributors from more than 30 institutions. The Open Access version of chapters 1, 2, 4, 11, 17, 23, 30, 37, 42, 49, and 56 of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/e/9781003033530, have been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Book excerpt: This book presents the proceedings of the 12th International Symposium on High Speed Marine Vehicles, held virtually as an e-conference for the first time on 15 and 16 October 2020. High Speed Marine Vehicles Conference has almost 30-year history since the first Conference held in Naples in 1991. Since then, it has been an opportunity to present and discuss developments in the design, construction and operation of High Speed Marine Vessels. More than 40 abstracts were submitted for this edition of the conference, and following a rigorous review process, 26 papers were selected for inclusion in this book. These have been divided into 7 sections: CFD/EFD/sea trials; hydrofoils; multi-hull hydrodynamics; planing-hull hydrodynamics; propulsion and ship machinery; second generation intact stability criteria; and structures, loads, strength and materials. Topics covered include updated aspects of and developments in ship design, numerical and experimental hydrodynamics, seakeeping and maneuvering, and marine structures and machinery. This publication will be of interest to researchers from academia, industry, government agencies and certifying authorities, as well as designers and operators of high-speed vessels.

Book excerpt: How and why the election of Donald Trump inspired more women to enter politics Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election shocked and dismayed many women, and motivated many to run for office at all levels of government. In The Pink Wave, Regina M. Matheson and William W. Parsons explore this inspiring phenomenon and its impact on women’s representation. Drawing on national surveys and in-depth interviews of over 900 women, across almost every state, Matheson and Parsons show us why more women decided to run for state legislature during the Trump administration, the obstacles they faced on the campaign trail, and whether they ultimately succeeded or failed in their bid for office. Candidates share valuable lessons they learned from their recent campaign experiences, providing future insight for women—on both sides of the aisle—who may be inspired to follow in their footsteps. Matheson and Parsons examine the impact Donald Trump had on women candidates—both positive and negative—and women’s ambitions to pursue political office. The Pink Wave celebrates the hundreds of trailblazing women creating new political opportunities for representation, now and in the future.
