Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original edition of The Geometry of Musical Rhythm was the first book to provide a systematic and accessible computational geometric analysis of the musical rhythms of the world. It explained how the study of the mathematical properties of musical rhythm generates common mathematical problems that arise in a variety of seemingly disparate fields. The book also introduced the distance approach to phylogenetic analysis and illustrated its application to the study of musical rhythm. The new edition retains all of this, while also adding 100 pages, 93 figures, 225 new references, and six new chapters covering topics such as meter and metric complexity, rhythmic grouping, expressive timbre and timing in rhythmic performance, and evolution phylogenetic analysis of ancient Greek paeonic rhythms. In addition, further context is provided to give the reader a fuller and richer insight into the historical connections between music and mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the NAAP 2019 Gradiva® Award! Winner of the IAJS Book Award for Best Book published in 2019! Marian Dunlea’s BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach provides a theoretical and practical guide for working with early developmental trauma. This interdisciplinary approach explores the interconnection of body, mind and psyche, offering a masterful tool for restoring balance and healing developmental trauma. BodyDreaming is a somatically focused therapeutic method, drawing on the findings of neuroscience, analytical psychology, attachment theory and trauma therapy. In Part I, Dunlea defines BodyDreaming and its origins, placing it in the context of a dysregulated contemporary world. Part II explains how the brain works in relation to the BodyDreaming approach: providing an accessible outline of neuroscientific theory, structures and neuroanatomy in attunement, affect regulation, attachment patterns, transference and countertransference, and the resolution of trauma throughout the body. In Part III, through detailed transcripts from sessions with clients, Dunlea demonstrates the positive impact of BodyDreaming on attachment patterns and developmental trauma. This somatic approach complements and enhances psychobiological, developmental and psychoanalytic interventions. BodyDreaming restores balance to a dysregulated psyche and nervous system that activates our innate capacity for healing, changing our default response of "fight, flight or freeze" and creating new neural pathways. Dunlea’s emphasis on attunement to build a restorative relationship with the sensing body creates a core sense of self, providing a secure base for healing developmental trauma. Innovative and practical, and with a foreword by Donald E. Kalsched, BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach will be essential reading for psychotherapists, analytical psychologists and therapists with a Jungian background, arts therapists, dance and movement therapists, and body workers interested in learning how to work with both body and psyche in their practices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sergei O. Prokofieff and Peter Selg, two leading authorities and spiritual researchers into the life and work of Rudolf Steiner, gave a series of conferences from 2009 to 2010 on the Christological foundations of Anthroposophy. Their aim was to show the power of anthroposophic Christology. Thus, they focused on key turning points in Steiner's exposition--his major work, An Outline of Esoteric Science; the first Goetheanum; the reappearance of Christ in the etheric realm and its relationship to Rudolf Steiner's lectures on the Fifth Gospel; and the Christmas Conference of 1923/1924 and the founding of the New Mysteries. The lectures from these conferences, published as four booklets in German, are collected here in a single volume. The Creative Power of Anthroposophical Christology will prove to be an important work for anyone interested in the true meaning and depth of Rudolf Steiner's experience and understanding of Christ's act on Golgotha and his continuing presence among us and within Anthroposophy.

This is an essential book for anyone who wants to understand the inextricable link between climate and our planet's icy regions.

This book was released on 2023-09-25 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an age where the world is perpetually captivated by the ceaseless march of technological marvels, there remains an enduring enchantment with the fairy tales of old. These ageless narratives, brimming with stories of love, heroism, and profound lessons, have traversed centuries, resonating deeply within the souls of both the young and the seasoned. The inception of "AI Fairytales for the Curious Mind - Stories of Innovation, Invention, and the Future of Humanity" emerges from an insatiable curiosity: a desire to weave the ageless wisdom and magnetic allure of these tales with the expansive horizons of tomorrow. It is an audacious endeavour, spotlighting our cherished narratives from the past and transposing them into the electrifying and occasionally uncharted realms of a future moulded by artificial intelligence. This compendium strives to breathe new life into the heart of classic fairy tales, relocating them to a sphere where AI isn't just a fleeting concept but an intrinsic thread in the tapestry of daily existence. Through these stories, my ambition has been to explore the multifaceted relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence deeply. I have endeavoured to paint a world where this coexistence's challenges, triumphs, and philosophical dilemmas come to the fore. Every tale within these pages propels readers into a future where the known lands of tradition intersect with the unknown, where age-old parables and lessons converge and often conflict with the vast potentialities and predicaments of groundbreaking technological advancements. Penning "AI Fairytales For the Curious Mind" has been a journey. It is a bridge that arches gracefully over the past's nostalgic rivers, leading to the towering skyscrapers of an imagined tomorrow. This collection encapsulates a dream, a vision, and, most importantly, a conversation between epochs. As you immerse yourself in these tales, may they evoke the enchantment of ancient fables while simultaneously stirring contemplation about humanity's evolving narrative in this exhilarating era of machines and digital wonders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That there is a living stream of Johannine Christianity can no longer be doubted. There is now an abundant literature from Rosicrucian and esoteric traditions – from the deepest prayer and meditation – that addresses the exalted nature of John the Evangelist as expressed through his Gospel, Letters and the Book of Revelation. Yet it fell to Hermann Beckh to elucidate clearly how the individual known as ‘John’ became the source of such undying love and wisdom in Christ. According to Rudolf Steiner, John was the ailing Lazarus, called from death to a new life as ‘the disciple Jesus loved’. Beckh demonstrates how John’s invaluable writings were based on personal spiritual knowledge and experience, expressing the divine work of the Cosmic Christ on human nature and on the Earth, leading far into the future. Whilst Beckh’s authorship originated within the context of the emerging Christian Community founded in 1922, his profoundly original books could not be confined to its framework. Not only could Beckh tackle original texts in Tibetan, Sanskrit and Avestan, but – through his independent vision – he was able to establish new links with philosophical Alchemy, Jakob Böhme, Goethe, Nietzsche and Novalis. He thereby stands with these figures as a co-worker in a greater community. Having prepared the way with his Mark’s Gospel of 1928, John’s Gospel could be described as the capstone of Beckh’s writings – as a triumphant announcement that theology and the study of John’s Gospel have finally come of age. Appearing here in a freshly revised translation by Alan Stott, the current volume is enhanced by a series of valuable addenda that shed further light on Beckh’s significant achievements.
