Book Synopsis Metabolism of Trace Metals in Man Vol. II (1984) by : Owen M. Rennert
Download or read book Metabolism of Trace Metals in Man Vol. II (1984) written by Owen M. Rennert and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vast literature exists dealing with trace metals and a number of outstanding monographs deal with the biological, biochemical, or clinical effects of a specific trace metal or trace metals in general. However, newer aspects of trace metal research, i.e. the developmental aspects and generic implications, have not been systematically discussed in any existing texts. The present two volumes will summarize the present status of research in these areas and serve as milestones for future development in these areas of trace metal research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A 2-volume reference set (volume 1: Developmental Aspects; volume 2: Genetic Implications) presents 16 authoritative reviews on a variety of general and specific topics dealing with trace metal metabolism. General aspects of trace elements include; perinatal needs; genetic and developmental implications derived from animal experiments; the general relationship of trace elements in health and disease; trace element needs in growth, sexual maturation, genetic regulation, and in the elderly; and trace elements in human milk. Specific topics discussed are: the role of Cu, Zn, and other elements in ischemic heart disdease; the role of Cu in Menke's disease; genetic aspects of Mn metabolism; and the study of various disease states (acrodermatitis enteropathica, idopathic hemochromatosis, Wilson's disease, and diabetes mellitus). Book Synopsis Trace Elements in Man and Animals 6 by : Lucille S. Hurley
Download or read book Trace Elements in Man and Animals 6 written by Lucille S. Hurley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the published proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium on Trace Element Metabolism in Man and Animals. The Symposium was held at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, California, U.S.A. from May 31 through June 5, 1987. The decision to hold TEMA-6 at Asilomar was made at TEMA-5 in 1985. The International Guidance Committee decided to hold the meeting in California in part to recognize the significant cont~i butions made to the field of trace element metabolism by Professor Lucille S. Hurley. As such, she was the obvious choice as chair of the local organ izing committee. One of the principal goals of Professor Hurley was that TEMA-6 serve as a forum for discussing the use and application of newer methodologies, such as molecular biology, computer modelling and stable isotopes, in studies of trace element metabolism. Based on the comments which the local organizing committee has received, this goal was achieved. The Symposium was attended by 275 scientists from 32 countries covering 6 continents. Twenty-five speakers were chosen for our plenary sessions.

Download or read book Vitamin and Mineral Requirements in Human Nutrition written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2004 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past 20 years micronutrients have assumed great public health importance and a considerable amount of research has lead to increasing knowledge of their physiological role. Because it is a rapidly developing field, the WHO and FAO convened an Expert Consultation to evaluate the current state of knowledge. It had three main tasks: to review the full scope of vitamin and minerals requirements; to draft and adopt a report which would provide recommended nutrient intakes for vitamins A, C, D, E, and K; the B vitamins; calcium; iron; magnesium; zinc; selenium; and iodine; to identify key issues for future research and make preliminary recommendations for the handbook. This report contains the outcome of the Consultation, combined with up-to-date evidence that has since become available.
