Download or read book "Reunited --- The Famous Key Family of Colonial Virginia" written by Gene C. Key and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1931, Julian C. Lane published a book on the history of the Key Family titled "Key and Allied Families." Her work has been considered to be the basis for many Key Family Histories since that time. However, she had many inaccurate family connections. One is led to believe that all of the Key families of the early colonial times were related. Such, however, is not true. She also tends to link the Moses Key Family in Pennsylvania and the family of Frances Scott Key as all being related to the Keys of Colonial Virginia. Present day DNA testing of the Male Y - Chromosome has proven that these three families are not even remotely related. Julian C. Lane simply compiled family histories that were sent to her and in some cases she mistakenly linked some together. However, considering that she did not have the present day tools of research and the computer, she did the best that she could do. I was able to find valuable information about my family line through her book. I must say that I would have had a hard time find who my Chesterfield County, South Carolina ancestors were if it had not been for Julian C. Lane. This work, "Reunited --- The Famous Key Family of Colonial Virginia" will deal only with the descendants of John Key who arrived in 1668. There will be another book at a later date that will include the other Key Families. This is a four volume set with the index being in volume four. Eighteen hundred plus pages is simply too many pages for even a two volume set. One needs to obtain all four volumes in order to have the complete genealogy. Let me say also that John Key of 1668 has well more than 250,000 descendants today. It is then impossible to list them all. The value of this work and of any other genealogy is not just being able to find your name listed. As you work your way back in your ancestors however, you will likely find how your Key Family links to the Keys of Virginia. That will be the real value of this genealogy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of a planned series of Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The first volume is devoted to the works of Mary Frances Carey, whereas subsequent volumes also include the works of Barry Miles and M. K. Miles. Mary Frances has devoted many years to research of early Accomack County families and is in the process of turning over her research to Barry and M. K., whose collaboration has generated a database of Accomack County families. The database initially focused on the upper portion of Accomack County, but it has expanded into the rest of Accomack and Northampton Counties. These three individuals have over twenty-five years of experience each with Accomack County families and the various local records, cemeteries, and people still living in Accomack County. Mary Frances has researched and locally printed over forty family booklets, and, with Barry and M. K., she has published the Tombstone Inscriptions of Upper Accomack County, Virginia. The Miles team published the Marriage Records of Accomack County, Virginia, 1854-1896 in 1997 and the Abstract of the Wills and Administrations of Accomack County, Virginia, 1800-1860 in 2000. They have also assembled over 40,000 names in a genealogy database representing hundreds of Accomack families. This volume is devoted to families of Accomack and Northampton Counties including descendants of: James Bonnewell, Richard Bundick, William Mason, Edward Thornton, Henry Trader/Armitrader, and Henry Wright. A full-name and place index adds to the value of this work.

He died in 1668 in Hampton Parish, York Co., Virginia. This book provides his descendants and allied families for 12 generations. A lot of the names in this research book have never been published before in any other Napier research and genealogy book. The sources in this book are provided on the Napier surname. A volume II Reference and Sources book will be available soon. His historical marker reads: "Nearby lived "Patrick Napier of Queenes Creek in the County of Yorke Chirurgeon," one of the earliest surgeons of Scottish descent in Virginia. Born about 1634, and apprenticed to the surgeon general of the Scottish army defeated by Cromwell in 1650, Patrick Napier arrived here before 1655. He married Elizabeth, a daughter of Robert Booth, clerk of the York County Court, and a member of the House of Burgesses. By horse and boat, Napier attended the sick, performed surgery, bled his patients, and dispensed various remedies consistent with the practice of medicine in the mid-seventeenth century. He died in 1669. He was the progenitor of most of the Napiers in America."
