Each retiree will need to MANAGE all the components of her retirement investments, health care costs, personal care costs and living arrangements for an estimated 30 year retirement. All the while the government will continue to lessen Social Security and Medicare coverage for the middle class. A married Woman may spend 15 years or more without a partner typically after suffering financially from the crushing long term care costs for their aging spouse. Without proper planning, a woman will surely be thrown into poverty. And when a woman starts to need care, many women will find that their adult children or family are not in a place financially or geographically to assist. Society has shifted tremendous responsibility onto women without creating the tools or assistance needed to be successful. Women have been Ignored! The retirement planning industry was created by men for men. The industry is selling "the get rich quick" gambling on stocks illusion as a complete retirement plan. This is a ridiculous strategy! It is attractive to men that want quick fixes to complicated issues while Wall Street drains your portfolio through commissions and fees. Women will need to manage all the aspects of retirement in this challenging society, watching expenses as much as their investments. IN THIS NEW RETIREMENT, WOMEN MUST ACCEPT THE LEADING ROLE. WOMEN ARE NATURAL MANAGERS. THEY MANAGE THEIR FAMILY'S FINANCES, RELATIONSHIPS AND A HOUSEHOLD. Out of necessity eighty percent of women will find themselves solely responsible at some point in retirement.

In the coming decades, people aged 65 and over will make up an increasingly large percentage of the population: The ratio of people aged 65+ to people aged 20-64 will rise by 80%. This shift is happening for two reasons: people are living longer, and many couples are choosing to have fewer children and to have those children somewhat later in life. The resulting demographic shift will present the nation with economic challenges, both to absorb the costs and to leverage the benefits of an aging population. Aging and the Macroeconomy: Long-Term Implications of an Older Population presents the fundamental factors driving the aging of the U.S. population, as well as its societal implications and likely long-term macroeconomic effects in a global context. The report finds that, while population aging does not pose an insurmountable challenge to the nation, it is imperative that sensible policies are implemented soon to allow companies and households to respond. It offers four practical approaches for preparing resources to support the future consumption of households and for adapting to the new economic landscape.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do your clients have any idea of what they can/should spend in retirement? Do they know what they need to do to optimize their retirement spending? How can you protect a spouse from the drop in social security if a client dies early? Why is it likely that buying insurance or buying a fixed annuity can dramatically increase the level of your client’s spending—even if your customer is already retired? What if you could show your client exactly what the impact would be and at what level they would need to buy to achieve a certain level of spending? How can buying a fixed annuity be a hedge against term life expiration and what level is required? When should your client start taking social security? What can your client spend now and how much can that improve if they purchase insurance or an annuity from you? All these questions and more are answered in this book and in the free software that accompanies this book. The software, though more complex than most end users would care to learn, offers you the opportunity to load in customer financial data and give them results that will calculate various options. The amazing and counter-intuitive part is that it is highly likely that most individuals can see their monthly spending capability go up dramatically by buying insurance and/or buying a fixed annuity and the software enables you to zero in on the desired level. Even though life insurance is an old, established financial product, and annuities are even older, there is one enormous market that has been overlooked: the market for additional retirement funds for a surviving spouse and replacement of Social Security payments that are lost after the death of a spouse. This book explains how to address this market, and includes instructions and a license for software that illustrates how insurance and annuities can increase sustainable spending in retirement. Most people have no idea how much they can really spend in retirement. Many are living frugal lives spending their social security while "saving for a rainy day". They buy life insurance in batches of tens thousands of dollars because it sounds good or what they think they can afford. Almost no one would believe that buying "expensive" life insurance after age 60 actually can free them to spend MUCH more on a monthly basis. Furthermore, no one is looking at an optimum return on the investment based on a certain level of potential spending. Until now. This book, and the accompanying software enable you, the life agent, to input the customer data and come up with a plan for your customer and provide proof that the plan will work for them. The book explains what goes into making these calculations, why they work the way they do and gives various case studies that quite often show that buying term insurance or buying an annuity after retirement can be great investments for them. We think your customers will be convinced. There are detailed instructions as to use of the software that accompanies the book with built in case studies that you can use. But even more importantly, you can input a customer’s data and provide them with options and actually show them the benefits or give them the solutions that they would otherwise not know exist. These solutions will be invaluable to your business and offer you a distinct advantage over competition that are not selling in this manner.

There's a massive freight train bearing down on the average American investor, and it's coming in the form of higher taxes. The United States Government has made trillions of dollars in unfunded promises for programs like Social Security and Medicare—and the only way to deliver on these promises is to raise taxes. Some experts have even suggested that tax rates will need to double, just to keep our country solvent. Unfortunately, if you're like most Americans, you've saved the majority of your retirement assets in tax-deferred vehicles like 401(k)s and IRAs. If tax rates go up, how much of your hard-earned money will you really get to keep? In The Power of Zero, McKnight provides a concise, step-by-step roadmap on how to get to the 0% tax bracket by the time you retire, effectively eliminating tax rate risk from your retirement picture. Now, in this expanded edition, McKnight has updated the book with a new chapter on the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, showing readers how to navigate the new tax law, and how they can extend the life of their retirement savings by taking advantage of it now. The day of reckoning is fast approaching. Are you ready to do what it takes to experience the power of zero?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How much you need to finance your retirement depends on how well you want to live and the expected length of your retirement life. Do you want to maintain or increase your standard of living? Do you want to start a new business, provide financial help to family members or engage in a new hobby or activity? How much you need to accumulate depends on the lifestyle you envision. Securing a Retirement Income for Life will show you how much you need to accumulate to provide a retirement income for life and how to implement the very best strategies for managing, protecting and preserving your wealth. The interactive nature of this new book will show you how to go about planning to meet your retirement needs and objectives and how best to prepare for uncertainties when the future is unknown. For many people, retirement may represent the longest stage of their life. It is a time when they can look forward to a whole new range of exciting challenges and activities - to experience their own vision - with the same passion, excitement and sense of accomplishment they had during the first part of their life. Along with a much longer life, however, comes more complex and much more expensive financial challenges. This book will help you prepare for the many challenges and uncertainties that lie ahead as you approach retirement and during your retirement years, such as the potential risk of outliving your money. The shift away from defined benefit plans to defined contribution plans is a trend that has revolutionized retirement planning by placing more of the responsibility for saving on the individual. Since fewer retirees in the future can expect to receive a steady stream of income from employer provided defined benefit plans, individuals will have to rely more on their own resources for a much higher percentage of their retirement income. According to author and Certified Financial Planner practitioner, Bill Griffith, Jr., CFP, "people are faced with having to make serious decisions about how to manage their company retirement plan, how much to contribute, how to invest their money and what to do with their vested balance after they retire." "They need to have a plan based on clear and accurate information to help them make decisions about when to retire, how long they can expect to live in retirement, how much they need to accumulate and how to manage their funds throughout their retirement years." The investment needed to finance retirement depends on an accurate forecast of expenditures and rate of return assumptions well into the future. The uncertainty of traditional return assumptions and rising healthcare costs are both significant risks in retirement and can have a tremendous impact on retirement savings and security. Decisions about when to retire, how long you can expect to live in retirement and how much you need to accumulate are complicated by an ever changing set of circumstances. Throughout this book, the author emphasizes a process-driven approach for facing these and other critical issues in retirement. You will learn about the proper methods for managing retirement funds and how to protect against the risk of funding long-term liabilities. Meeting financial obligations through an investment-based approach is only one part of the process. Securing a Retirement Income for Life will show you how to use a combination of methods to assure that your retirement income will last for life.

Book excerpt: Do you ever read the headlines about financial happenings and wonder if Wall Street is run by a bunch of animals? In Wall Street and Your Retirement, you'll learn about stock pickin' chickens, cat- and chimp-based stock indexes, and more financial animals, as well as how to keep this monkey business from affecting your lifestyle in retirement. With amusing anecdotes and sensible strategies, industry insider Ron Anno writes about the topics most relevant to retirees (and those who aspire to be), including: - Ways to make the most of Social Security - Strategies for reducing taxes in retirement - Resources for reliable income - and more! About the Author Ron Anno has more than three decades of experience in financial services, and has worked from nearly every angle. His work helping people retire every day informs the stories and strategies he outlines in this, his first book. Ron lives in Sarasota, Florida, with his wife, Debra. They have three adult children and two beautiful granddaughters. What industry professionals are saying about Wall Street and Your Retirement: "I have been a practicing CPA since 1993 and have seen just about every kind of financial strategy or plan ever thought up. Ron Anno's book weeds through all the nonsense, hype and/or worse. His book is easy to read and extremely informative for any level of reader. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to plan for their future. I would also recommend this to anyone in the business to sharpen up their game. Nice job, Ron." - Mark Knauf, CPA "In 'Wall Street and Your Retirement, ' Ron Anno has brought together decades of real-world experience and complicated financial concepts to deliver a quantitative and understandable approach toward financial security. He cuts to the chase so individuals can make sense of the complicated and perilous world of investing. This book is fun, easy to digest, and the information is critical to a successful retirement." - Paul Tarantino SVP Wealth Advisor, Canandaigua National Trust Co. of Florida "Ron Anno's 'Wall Street and Your Retirement' takes the complex and multi-faceted process of retirement planning and breaks it down into its components in a way that is comprehensible to those without specialized financial knowledge. His descriptions of the various elements that compose a retirement plan are concise and free of unnecessary industry jargon or niche phrases. His examples of how these individual parts work together to form a greater whole is direct and unambiguous in underscoring the importance of having a financial professional with diversified knowledge planning for your retirement goals." - Paul J. Bupivi, Esq., Lawrence & Associates-Counselors at Law "Retirement planning is crucial for almost everyone. Yet, most of us do not understand how to set up a diversified plan that will meet our retirement goals or, in some cases, what our goals even are. Ron's book provides valuable insight into forming an effective retirement plan. It discusses all aspects of a truly diverse retirement plan, from identifying retirement goals to explaining the various tools and products available and showing how each can be used in a solid retirement plan. Ron explains the roles that health care, the stock market, annuities, life insurance, Social Security, and estate planning each play in retirement. My favorite aspect of this book is that it provides an understanding of how different types of complex annuities and life insurance policies actually work. This book is worth reading for that alone but it provides much more to help the reader gain a better understanding of retirement planning." - Robert C. Benedict, Esq., Wideikis, Benedict & Berntsson, LLC, The Big W Law Firm

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two fundamentally different philosophies for retirement income planning, which I call probability-based and safety-first, diverge on the critical issue of where a retirement plan is best served: in the risk/reward trade-offs of a diversified and aggressive investment portfolio that relies primarily on the stock market, or in the contractual protections of insurance products that integrate the power of risk pooling and actuarial science alongside investments. The probability-based approach is generally better understood by the public. It advocates using an aggressive investment portfolio with a large allocation to stocks to meet retirement goals. My earlier book How Much Can I Spend in Retirement? A Guide to Investment-Based Retirement Strategies provides an extensive investigation of probability-based approaches. But this investments-only attitude is not the optimal way to build a retirement income plan. There are pitfalls in retirement that we are less familiar with during the accumulation years. The nature of risk changes. Longevity risk is the possibility of living longer than planned, which could mean not having resources to maintain the retiree's standard of living. And once retirement distributions begin, market downturns in the early years can disproportionately harm retirement sustainability. This is sequence-of-returns risk, and it acts to amplify the impacts of market volatility in retirement. Traditional wealth management is not equipped to handle these new risks in a fulfilling way. More assets are required to cover spending goals over a possibly costly retirement triggered by a long life and poor market returns. And yet, there is no assurance that assets will be sufficient. For retirees who are worried about outliving their wealth, probability-based strategies can become excessively conservative and stressful. This book focuses on the other option: safety-first retirement planning. Safety-first advocates support a more bifurcated approach to building retirement income plans that integrates insurance with investments, providing lifetime income protections to cover spending. With risk pooling through insurance, retirees effectively pay an insurance premium that will provide a benefit to support spending in otherwise costly retirements that could deplete an unprotected investment portfolio. Insurance companies can pool sequence and longevity risks across a large base of retirees, much like a traditional defined-benefit company pension plan or Social Security, allowing for retirement spending that is more closely aligned with averages. When bonds are replaced with insurance-based risk pooling assets, retirees can improve the odds of meeting their spending goals while also supporting more legacy at the end of life, especially in the event of a longer-than-average retirement. We walk through this thought process and logic in steps, investigating three basic ways to fund a retirement spending goal: with bonds, with a diversified investment portfolio, and with risk pooling through annuities and life insurance. We consider the potential role for different types of annuities including simple income annuities, variable annuities, and fixed index annuities. I explain how different annuities work and how readers can evaluate them. We also examine the potential for whole life insurance to contribute to a retirement income plan. When we properly consider the range of risks introduced after retirement, I conclude that the integrated strategies preferred by safety-first advocates support more efficient retirement outcomes. Safety-first retirement planning helps to meet financial goals with less worry. This book explains how to evaluate different insurance options and implement these solutions into an integrated retirement plan.
