Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Initiated and governed by property or business owners under the authorization of state and local governments, business improvement districts (BIDs) have received a very mixed reception. To some, they are innovative examples of self-governance and public-private partnerships; to others, they are yet another example of the movement toward the privatization of what should be inherent government responsibilities. Among the first books to present a collection of scholarly work on the subject, Business Improvement Districts: Research, Theories, and Controversies brings together renowned leaders in the field to compile the highest-quality theoretical, legal, and empirical studies into one comprehensive volume. Investigating fundamental concerns at the core of the debate, as well as potential solutions, this groundbreaking resource: Tackles the need for improved problem solving and efficiency in service delivery Examines new and innovative policy tools for both the public and private sectors Evaluates whether BIDs do ignore the needs and voices of residential property owners Discusses the challenge created by social segregation in cities Addresses lack of accountability by BIDs to the public and elected representatives From different perspectives, leading practitioners and academics analyze the pros and cons of BIDs both in the United States and around the world. They look at their impact on urban planning and retail revitalization, consider their legal implications, and explore ways to measure BID performance. Filled with case studies of urban centers including San Diego, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and Capetown, and state models such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, this examination bring together essential information for researchers as well as those leaders and policy makers looking to adopt a BID model or improve one already in place.

Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1988, brings together leading researchers from both the retailing business and the academic world to discuss the latest techniques of analysis and forecasting in the fields of store choice, store location, and market analysis. Its rationale is the major restructuring of the UK retailing industry which has taken place over the past twenty years, and the profound implications of that restructuring for the type of research necessary to understand, maintain and enhance corporate responsibility. The contributors present accounts of the development of new and original methods for retail analysis and forecasting purposes. They lay stress upon practical methods which are accurate and robust, and which can operate with the type of data typically available to retailers. The book will provide a major work of reference for retailers, market researchers, retail analysts, estate managers, urban planners and geographers in many countries.

Book excerpt: The retail sector is in the midst of a chrysalis period (major transformation) that is forcing most retailers to recalibrate their intentions with how they execute their business strategies. Many retailers are struggling with adapting to the NEW RETAIL ETHOS which is flummoxing a large segment of retail executives with how to correspond with fluctuating consumer demands in the digital age. Fortunately, this is creating a cacophony of opportunity for retail leaders to establish heuristic methods that will create an axiomatic bridge between legacy retailing of the past to the highly innovative, enthralling, and multisensory digital world of tomorrow, thus, creating an engaging retail utopian future.WITHIN THIS MANUAL YOU WILL LEARN* Four Techniques to Drastically Increase Net Income* The No-Limit Concept to Increase Revenue and Skyrocket Your Gross Margin Levels* Six Methods for Abolishing Revenue Deterrents and Increase Customer Brand Loyalty* How to Increase Top-Line Revenue and Maximize Per Square Foot Revenue* How to Attract and Retain Top-Notch Talent Throughout Your Organization* How to Create an Inclusive Environment for Your Employees & Customers* Feng-Shui Techniques to Foster an Environment of Auspicious Energy* How to Promote the Right Leaders and Reward Your EmployeesThese retail concepts are a series of compounding ideas that create an overall advantageous synergistic effect. They generate effectual momentum analogous to The Flywheel Effect that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos incorporates which creates a "virtuous cycle" a.k.a. a positive feedback loop. This translates into a magnetic and interactive shopping environment that is built upon solid foundations, devoted relationships, transparency, and an amalgamation of concrete values that truly serve your customers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Store Location and Store Assessment Research Edited by R. L. Davies University of Newcastle, UK and D. S. Rogers D. S. R. Marketing Systems Inc., Illinois, USA An invaluable book to students and practitioners in marketing and retailing. This book looks at store location and store assessment research on both sides of the Atlantic from an academic and a practical retailing point of view, and in doing so attempts to fill a gap in an area which has been hitherto poorly documented. It is also an area in which theory and practice have rarely interrelated. This book endeavours to marry the academic contributions that have been made from a largely theoretical perspective to a series of business experiences that have been conducted in practice. In an age of relative store saturation and an abundance of shopping centres accurate store location research and store location assessment is not only advisable but essential. In recent years a coalescence of needs and a sharing of ideas has transpired between the USA and the UK and has provided a rationale for this collection of Anglo-American essays which give a balanced view of the theory and the practice that make up the subject. Book Synopsis Digital Transformation. The Realignment of Information Technology and Business Strategies for Retailers in South Africa by : Albert Mubako

This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remaining competitive in the retail industry of South Africa in the digital age is a major business concern. In the age of „digital natives”, people are well-connected on various digital technology platforms and are digital consumers. Digital technologies offer retail organizations new innovative ways to create value by utilizing digital business strategies, processes, and products. This qualitative research study explores the perception of retail strategy experts and decision-makers toward realignment of IT and business strategies considering digital transformation in South Africa. Based on interviews with seven managers and decision-makers in the retail industry, the study reveals that digital technologies have disrupted traditional ways of doing business. The study proposes eight major recommendations, in which retail traders could innovate their business strategy to enhance value creation beyond traditional approaches to retailing. It provides a good starting point for academic research in a domain that is deficient in theoretical and empirical research on the South Africa retail sector, and offers retailing managers a conceptual model to guide them toward a digital business strategy for transient competitive advantages.
